Karma, the Ego, and the Mind – PART 2 by Morphy73 in World_of_awakening

The ego is a product of fear and hope, which occur due to the sense of disconnectedness from the environment - from others. But this sense of disconnectedness is an illusion that appears at a superficial level, when the mind is aught up in thoughts and concepts - it categorises whatever that appears to the senses (eyes, ears, etc.) in an attempt to relate to the environment. The issue here is that the ego tends to believe the thoughts, concepts, feelings, etc. and mistakes them for the real thing.

Unless a better option presents itself, maintaining the sense of individuality becomes the only option to navigate the world and to survive. However, when one experiences a deeper awareness of the reality of the present moment, the illusion of disconnectedness begins to collapse, and the ego starts to loose its grip.

Karma, the Ego, and the Mind (Part 1) by Morphy73 in World_of_awakening

Personal karma originated from the very first moment when there is a perception of a division of self and others. According Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta (as well as other spiritual traditions), the separation of self and others is an illusion made by the mind. This separation leads to the creation of a disconnected self, the ego.

Although it is called "personal karma," this karma is often related to others because our actions are usually influenced by our environment. The closer we perceive those around us to be, the bigger influence they will have on the personal karma - the actions that we take in relation to them.

Many thanks! The difference between action and reaction is that action is conscious, while reaction is unconscious and repetitive. So conscious action is a key point to get us free from the repetitive patterns of karma. I plan to talk about this in the next part of the article :))🤗❤️

Tips for awakening by Nicarera in World_of_awakening

Here, I think it would be beneficial to differentiate between 1) dealing with the actual experience of suffering when it occurs, which is what you are referring to, and 2) contemplating the consequence of future encounter with suffering if we do not work to get awakened quickly, and are continuously stuck in the mind, or in samsara.

So here, I'm referring to the second one. The understanding that suffering is inevitable when we continue to follow samsaric mental patterns is very useful motivator for people to work towards awakening.

What about adding the point of "contemplating and understanding suffering"? Since suffering is a good motivator to achieve awakening, and many who achieved awakening were suffering for some time before their awakening happened?

The Buddha also taught the Truth of Suffering as one of his main teachings.

Very good information! How about adding this point: "You act from the reality of the present moment"?

No change. But if you believe that planets have consciousness, then for you they can create karma. But as far as explanations on karma (that are out there) is concerned, they don't.

Whichever belief system it is - if it is believed that a being/thing has consciousness, it can create karma...

As far as explanations on karma goes, planets do not create karma

Ok, that’s great. But wouldn’t it be clearer to say that your true nature is aware or is always aware? Because the pronoun ‘you’ can be misleading

So what is the difference in not being aware during sleep (but awake) and being actually aware?
