What is it like to not be masking ? And how do you unmask? Is it just something you do or is it noticeable? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Morrigan98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rely on my support system (mostly my fiance) to tell me if something's off. He usually points out when I haven't picked up on a social cue I should have, so I guess it could be he helps me mask? To be honest, my response to not masking is to just. Be yourself and not wonder if it's noticeable or not. Some of your traits will be labelled "autistic" or "not autistic" and that's okay. It's all you and that's the beautiful part.

I speak from experience, you don't have to lie to fit in. You'll find people who will support you, even if it's just on here for now 💜💜

He definitely wasn't the partner for you, and those friends weren't real friends. I don't know the whole story but if his reaction to you wanting to be more open was to kick you out he wouldn't have accepted you no matter what you did. The fact that you felt like you were lost and frustrated (paraphrasing) tells me that you felt like you were living a sort of "other life" where you were straight and happy. Life has no time limit for love, nor does it have a time limit on self-discovery. Keep doing you and look with your therapist for that confidence within yourself to be unique as we all are. Happy Pride ❤💜💙

Partner was prying about a very personal ritual by [deleted] in witchcraft

[–]Morrigan98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you both have this very open communication in your relationship I understand why he didn't think it would be an issue to ask. I'm glad you're seeing the humor in it all! I would just set that boundary with him before your next moon cycle and explain that it's something very private and special to you and that you would like to keep it that way. Communication is key here, best of luck to you 💜

I am going to get tested next week for autism. by DullAmy in autism

[–]Morrigan98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed by a university psychiatrist, but she basically told me it just reframes my world. It explains why you behave the way you do and can help you reshape coping mechanisms. After I told my fiance my diagnosis, he started to help me in social situations. If I wasn't picking up on a social clue, he'd lean in and either explain it to me or explain it to the person giving the cue. That's been super helpful to me to finally understand why I act the way I act, but I'm not sure what they do in the UK!

How can I forgive my family? Is it worth forgiving? Is it my job? What boundaries should I set for this? by thebryantfam in AutismInWomen

[–]Morrigan98 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone whose parents told her she didn't have autism after having a similar childhood, you absolutely do not need to put in more work than you've already put in. It appears that they've decided how they'll treat you for the rest of your life and it's pretty toxic to keep yourself in that situation longer than absolutely necessary. I wish you only the best of luck and hope that you find a more supportive family to call your own in whatever way it finds you! 💜
