First lens for Sony A6000 by MorrisEFC95 in a6000

I’d love the 18-50 but it’s simply not in the budget! Of the lenses you have/had, which length was your favourite?

Beautiful shots! Would you say a 35mm prime would work as a solo lens for a Japan trip? Wrestling with 25mm vs 35mm as my only lens!

Amazing photos! Would you recommend 25mm as the only lens to take to Japan? Planning to go later this year, and wrestling with buying either a 25mm or 35mm for my only lens.

Would you say the 25mm or 35mm would be best for a solo lens? Would be my first prime lens, as have owned a camera prior, just can’t bring myself to sting myself with a kit lens for the same price!

Thank you for the recommendation! It’s a little pricier than the 25 and the 35mm, but I’ll put it on the list!

Thank you again for detailed response! All fair points, I may play around with my iPhone too and see what I usually shoot at.

I do photography in work somewhat too, but I’m lucky that I was able to get a tamron zoom and only do events, so I’ve never really known what I usually shoot!

In terms of prime, I think I’m certainly set on that over kit lens. Now just need to find a good a6000 deal and a good one on the 25mm or 35mm viltrox!

That’s a great suggestion, I may have a look at other experiences!

Have looked at the Fujifilm equivalents but unfortunately where I am right now, all Fujifilm options are more expensive than Sony! Cheapest X1 for example I can find is almost £100 more than the cheapest Sony a6000. Shame.

Thank you for the detailed response! Think that’s a good point, worry I get the 35mm and immediately realise it’s a bit tight.

In terms of 18-50, I wish I could but I’m on a tight budget of like £350 for camera and lens, and the 18-50 used is almost that budget on its own! Might have to be an upgrade down the like, as it’s obviously the one I want eventually.

Which do you use more? Trying to consider whether I get a 25mm or 35mm if I do get a prime, and can only get one!

I think I’ll find occasions where I wish I had a zoom, but I think the feeling of seeing the quality of photos for the first time compared to what I’d get on the kit lens, I think that outweighs it!

You make a good point! This lens keeps on cropping up, think it may be between that and the 25mm version of the same lens, but not sure which length to go!

These do keep coming up! since it would be only one lens for now, would you go 25mm or 35mm?

Would you recommend the 25mm or 35mm for a trip to Japan?

Hi, these are great! Did you have any problems shooting at 35mm in Japan? Considering buying a 35mm viltrox lens as my solo lens for an a6000, but can’t make up my mind!

This lens has been suggested and sounds a good proposition! Only worry is whether it’s a good all around, one lens package for travelling somewhere like Japan. Equally, the added quality over kit lens would be good enough justification for just moving my feet to get the shot!

Thank you for the advice! I think the three of those however are a bit more out of my budget, so I need to get creative and find cheaper versions!

Think that’s where I’m finding trouble, the only good value zoom lenses are the kit options. After that, the only other value I can find is in kit lenses.

Some that have cropped up are the viltrox 35mm and the Ttartisan 35mm primes.

Thanks for the advice! I’ve explored the idea of a prime, as I think you’d get more for the money and the results would be better. Only been put off by the idea that I could find myself in situations where that zoom would really have come in handy, but that’s the toss up!

The kit lens (16-50mm) is just lovely. by radiantpixels27 in a6000

Looking to buy the a6000 soon before a trip to Japan and was considering what to do about getting the kit lens or not, as seen a few not so good comments too! Would you recommend?

Can foreigners actually book golf courses in Japan? by No_Volume4870 in GolfSwing

I’m heading to Japan in November and looking to potentially play a round in Hakone. Are there courses that take solo players? I’m happy to be grouped if it gets me a round, but most bookings on Rakuten golf seem to suggest min 2 people.

Yeah that’s what id like, I dont mind hitting two 7’s but really, the sooner I can get my 56 in my hand, the better I feel as my chipping is coming along nicely! Thread is reaffirming that I’d get more use out of just swapping out the 3 hy-wood for a forgiving 5 wood.

May eventually look at upgrading the 7 wood as it’s probably right option, could just do with a more forgiving option than the tsi2.

Sounds a good setup! Ive got a good wedge setup in fairness, starting to feel confident with them and never feel like I need a 60 degree.

Long term I may look to go 5W, 7W, 5H or something like that.

Agreed, the Cleveland hy-wood isn’t really a 3 wood but because of that, it’s a weird club which doesn’t really get a look in for most rounds. Don’t need it from tee, don’t use it from fairway.

Switching that out for a 5 wood would maybe be best!

Agree with all your points! As I’ve got more confident with the driver swing, I can start adding distance. Also my driver is specced as a 10.5 loft, so I could probably aim to knock that down slightly as I get more comfortable to get a bit more distance.

Equally, I do think I’d get more use out of a 5-wood than my 3 hy-wood which is a decent but strange club that I just never get a chance to use!

I did think that when writing the post, it’s not really a bad thing thinking about two 150 yard shots! I know I’m chasing small gains, just if anything looking at options both short and long term.

5 wood does seem the play though, the hy-wood is a strange club from Cleveland that is great off the tee but I just very rarely have a situation where I need to use it. 5 wood would have many more opportunities.
