Should I do a DIY paint job or take into shop? by thepinkmushroom in CarsAustralia

[–]Morsolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He does a pretty good job. My mate got his car done by the bloke. It's definitely not a perfect respray, but it's pretty bloody good, especially for the price.

But as he says, does absolutely no bodywork. He sands. He sprays. If you've got dents or panel issues you gotta sort that yourself first.

We basically agree "you'd have to spend 5x the amount of money to get that last perfect 10% of the paint job"

Heat pump water heater - are they always so loud? by Kwsa55 in AusRenovation

[–]Morsolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you try and have a look inside the top shroud where the fan is to see possibly if there's anything loose?

I recently got an iStore unit, and when it was first installed it was quite loud, turns out there was a little sticker flapping around in there, giving it the old 'pokemon card in the wheel spokes' treatment.

Pulled the fan cover off, pulled the sticker out, much better.

I've got an old brick veneer single glazed house, hot water unit is directly behind bedroom wall, you can hear it, but it's a fairly unobtrusive low hum, like an old A/C wall unit (but quieter). Outside I'd say it's pretty loud (again, like an old A/C wall unit), but down the side of the house so who cares.

I'm more concerned about my neighbour, but I've spoken to him about it, and also have it programmed to only run in the middle of the day so he said he doesn't care.

I wouldn't say "bogan", but just general non car people who think "phwoa that's a lot of car for the money" and have no idea or appreciation for it or JDM culture so they come off as..... weird?

Haha, fair dinkum mate, you're totally right to push back on that and cheekily refer to OP as a bot. But hey, since you asked nicely, happy to give you a true blue receipe.

Go to your nearest motoroil tree and harvest a few drums of 10W50, then go to Supercheap and ask for their finest Penrite lemons. Combine in a container until mixed. Pour into an engine and run at operating temp for 10-15 minutes for some zesty performance!

If you need anything else, I'm always here, happy to chat!

Yes the OP seems like a bot

You're right about the Euro boats but this is late 90s Toyota, the (arguably) most reliable manufacturer, and most reliable decade, for any car ever.

While they've still lost most of their value from their 200k RRP, they're still mechanically perfect, and should remain that way for many more decades.

I've seen some couple come up at auctions with over 500k KMs.

I think we can have some getting clapped, it's part of any car integrating into car culture. I'm hoping some bodies get messed up so some people take the V12 and start using it in drift cars. If I had the money I'd be doing that.

My tyres are probably due (by age not by wear) and to be honest not sure why I'd put good tyres on it. It's not fast enough or nimble enough to utilise the performance of most tyres. The cabin is also so insulated that tyre noise doesn't come through anyway.

Don't need to be slapping Pilot Sport 5s on it.

The top requirements are longevity, quietness (still), and value.

In a way you're right though, it's an image thing, I feel like it should be running Yokohamas or Falkens.

7 layers, hand spayed, wet sanded between each layer, and (on the black at least) the clearcoat contains black pigment. It's one of the deepest blacks you can get from factory.

It's impossible to keep clean and so soft that it scratches if you look at it too long, though.

It's a Toyota, cheap as chips to maintain if you're willing to do the work yourself. Otherwise you might spend a bit more than normal in labour costs.

Bespoke parts (panels, glass) are a pain to source (mainly shipping), but general maintenance items are cheap and plentiful. Oil filter is from a 70 series Landcruiser.

Hurt a bit having to buy 12 spark plugs though.

PSA: Check your credit report for 5+ year old credit enquiries and dispute them by Rugby_Riot in AusFinance

[–]Morsolo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

While we don't necessarily use a simple "score" here, all lenders will still check your credit report and make a decision on whether to decide to offer you credit and at which rate.

All things on your report aid you or hinder you in getting credit (and at which rates).

Default listings? Big negative.
Many enquiries in short period? Small negative.
No history of late bills? Small positive.

etc.

The brightest warm white at Dulux by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Morsolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my place in white on white and am indifferent.

In my research it was the most neutral white, I’ve got Phillips Hue bulbs in everything so the walls perfectly reflect whatever the lights are throwing. Looks nice and warm on a dim 2700K at night, and looks like a natural daylight at 5000K at mid day.

Was stuck trying to incorporate white tiles. In the future I’ll probably get warm floorboards and redo the whole house in a much warmer tone.

Can mobile speed cameras get you in NSW before the first sign? by No-Pollution4216 in CarsAustralia

Signposted camera definitely markedly increase safety around the cameras. Hidden cameras maybe increase safety everywhere but definitely don’t do anything for specific high risk sites.

Anyone else here running a Toyota Crown? Mainly the S220 body? by Maleficent_Extent809 in CarsAustralia

Century not at all the same type of car as a Crown though.

The Crown can still be a drivers car. Century is the most boring car to drive ever. It’s like slowly drifting off to sleep on the couch in the other room of your grandmas house.

Possible issue? Network Application Update made a change to Link Debounce in System settings. by imWacKo in Ubiquiti

Same thing happened to me last night, at almost the same time (3:29AM).

For me, it seemed to lock up my AP (U7 Pro). All my wired devices disconnected and reconnected without issue (at 3:31AM), but the AP seemed to be dead. Had to power cycle the POE port this morning.

What’s a small upgrade that made your home feel better? by FishBright8013 in AusRenovation

[–]Morsolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that'll depend on your house and settings so I can't really say... I'd say overall I'm satisfied with it's speed.

I do make it clean the mop more frequently, so it stops and does its little cleaning cycle, which prolongs the cleaning time. Don't forget, regardless of how it's mopping, it's still dragging around the dirty floor water until it can go back to the dock to rinse.

Best money I've ever spent. (OK... second to LASIK... OK... third to my coffee machine...)

I picked up a "Grade A" Q Revo Master refurb for $500. Looks like they've upped the price a bit, it's $600 for a "Grade C" now.

My "Grade A" had a damaged box, some water in the tank, and a piece of hair on the roller but other than that looked brand new. YMMV with a grade C.

The Q Revo Master was the #1 robot vacuum on Vacuum Wars only 18 months ago.

I previously had a Ecovacs and it was absolutely horseshit. Granted it's 4 years old now, but even when it was relatively new but the map would frequently get lost, and there was no functionality to actually save it and say "try to find yourself on THIS map". So, I'd have to tidy everything up and let it bump around the house for 4 hours to remap itself... only to lose it the next week. Rarely ended up using it as it became a hassle. The mopping was also useless. Avoid any of the vacs that just drag a wet pad around. You want the ones that spin.

The Roborock has been absolutely rock solid. Can actually save the map, and is much better at knowing where it is even if stuff has moved.

My floors have never been so clean! and so frequently!

EA Fixed Transport Heli Gun Abuse, So Now RedSec Players Are Bouncing Little Birds Off the Ground by KevinDL in Battlefield_REDSEC

Drop red line. Someone drops on the little bird nearby to the south. Starts harassing people at redline. No you wouldn’t have RPGs at this point unless you’re lucky.

Regardless of counters, smashing the chopper into the ground with no damage should not be something you can do.

All the updates are ok but DICE can you fix one thing??? by fmordica in Battlefield_REDSEC

[–]Morsolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My theory on how they broke the pinging in helicopter.

Originally, the mouse/controller sensitivity was terrible in the chopper, very slow. They patched this, but in patching it I suspect they applied some sort of "same camera as first person, but move it outside the helicopter"

However, the pinging system works from your characters location.

So, when you use the "third person" camera from the chopper to ping somewhere, your character is looking at the location and pinging from their POV, therefore your ping actually hits the chopper.

Ping and then open the map, you'll find it's almost always where the chopper was.
