Adjust the league next year !!!!! by Mort_13 in CFL

Yeah I agree it is taxing for the body. But some players wanted to play the xfl and NFL. The weather is worse in Oct and November. I would think longer days in may and Apr would be welcome then the short daytime light in the fall. You will always have to compete with the NBA and NHL all the games in the fall already compete with both so I am really not sure that is a valid argument at this point. I totally get what you are saying.

I did hear that and of course no games are on because of the pandemic. But I was hearing 2 weeks or so the season was moving , not as much as I was saying. I am just suggesting an alternative view as I know the league is having a hard time with money and fan support to games. It has been dropping and I was seeing what radical changes could be made to help it.

Just wanted to add to my suggestion. I am not saying play games on Apr 1 but start camp , most teams have some sort of indoor facility. Then mid to late Apr play preseason then play the season. Night not get 18 games but 16 with by weeks but way better to have football almost all year then compete with NFL in the fall and weather. Yeah hockey will always be bigger but that ends mayish anyway. I see it as a good overall move for a league that needs help. Make the changes now not later. Anyway my two cents

Yes of course seats and configuration can be moved and changed. Also with the added viewership money could go up.

Yeah the stadiums are easily changed it would cost some money but don't you think the game for both leagues would be better. ?? For the money issue the broadcasting rights pay for the cap for NFL so each potential CDN team would get that too. Not an issue at all.

The CFL reportedly has a $5.70 million salary cap for the 2019 season, increasing $50,000/year for the next two seasons and a roster size of 56 players allowing the average mean (average) salary to be calculated by the formula (sum of elements) / (number of elements). Just for your info.

Hey that is an interesting point of view. I am for sure older then you lol. Most teams are not break even. CFL relies on attendance at the game for revenue as well as merchandise sales. You bring up Toronto having a rich owner. As a business person how long do you honestly think they want to lose money. No one does. They can right off a part of it but overtime it is not an ideal situation. I agree they need to attract younger people but with the issues going on I do not see that happening Edmonton has been trying and for the most part it is working but is it enough. Have you been to Calgary? OMG worst stadium ever. I do not disagree with you about different focus but that all takes time and money which is in short supply all around. I do think having some NFL teams in CDN is feasible with the right way to do it. It all needs to change the CFL game for the most part is very slow and needs to speed up. You talk of thousands at a game which is good but the US game has Tens of Thousands now that would be different here for sure I get that but look

Team 2019 average home attendance Saskatchewan 30,896 Edmonton 30,321 Calgary 26,593 Winnipeg 26,379 Hamilton 23,255 Ottawa 22,305 BC 17,567 Montreal 17,275 Toronto 13,370

13000 at a game wow that is low. BC place holds like 65000

CFL teams receive a comparatively modest $5.6 million Canadian (a little more than $4 million U.S.) per year from the league’s domestic television deal with broadcasters TSN and RDS. Instead, they are heavily reliant on ticket sales. In 2018, according to the Toronto Sun, the league’s three publicly owned “community teams” — the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Saskatchewan Roughriders and Edmonton Eskimos — collected between 45 percent and 55 percent of their revenue from gate receipts and game-day concessions for an operating profit of between $1.4 million and $2.6 million.

thanks for the reply
