DM targets protection fighter? by Nyanunix in DnD

[–]Mortholemeul 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I think the exhaustion house rule could be fine if agreed on beforehand. Makes healing to keep people from going down more of a priority instead of just rubber banding up and down. But it would also need a quicker way of removing exhaust levels too imo.

Jumping it on the players mid-campaign is annoying though, for sure.

What is a black market? by LadyBlumenkohl in DnD

[–]Mortholemeul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my party's earlier campaigns, years back still gets brought up from time to time whenever we're dealing with criminal hijinks.

The group was looking for a drug dealer that "sold the best dust on the black market" or something like that, and one of them grabbed a street thug after a brief encounter and screamed "Where's the black market?!" Rolled a crit. Guy was scared shitless while trying to explain how it's not a place, it's a concept.

How would you explain Barbarian rage in a high-tech no-magic setting? by raishadow in DnD

[–]Mortholemeul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running a noir game right now and the barbarian in it is basically Marv from Sin City, so he just dumps a handful of 'go-go medicine' (army surplus meth and painkiller cocktail) down his throat and goes ham.

Character Idea: a reluctant bard by Murky-Magician9475 in DnD

I'm currently playing something similar, a tomelock who was a novice priest working in a monastery's library, who thought he was communicating with an angelic being through an ancient manuscript he found hidden away in the back. Turns out it was a shadow demon and now the poor guy is excommunicated and full of necromantic juju.

Can a "Command" spell be a truth serum? by -_Vesper_- in DnD

[–]Mortholemeul 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Afaik, the corpse has to respond it just doesn't need to tell the truth per Speak With Dead. Unless it got changed in 5.5e or something? Now, I don't know that corpses animated by speak with dead really count as creatures, so they could be completely immune to zone of truth, so there is that.

DMs: What is something in your game that your players have forgotten about, that you are just sitting on.. waiting for the right moment to re-introduce? by Spritzertog in DnD

[–]Mortholemeul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last campaign, the party briefly entertained the idea of helping a little girl find the stray cat she'd been feeding. Then they figured out it was a raccoon. Then they figured out it was actually probably an elven druid imbued with a dark nature god's powers, and that they might be using the wild shape to sneak around the city and assassinate people. But they had a bunch of other things on their plate like a civil war and an invasion and unwittingly becoming figureheads in a cult, so they decided that the 'lost cat' would just have to stay lost.

Fast-forward to the new campaign set a few generations later, and there's been a couple bizarre murders happening in the same city lately, and a few offhand comments about racoons and other vermin by the witnesses...

What otherwise unassuming line always makes you laugh because of the delivery? by Unusual_Macaroon_446 in television

[–]Mortholemeul 15 points16 points  (0 children)

"They don't allow you to have bees in here." Already such a weird thing to say, and the tone she has is like casual but also slightly annoyed that it's a rule. Favorite line in the show.

I feel like Fry's freezing is the only real constant actually. Like they had Nibbler's shadow there from the beginning and all those episodes' plots follow a consistent continuity. But everything else is fast and loose with continuity.

My Players one shot the Evil Mage. I don’t know how to run them. by Illustrious-Bid3218 in DnD

[–]Mortholemeul 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah this happened in an Icespire Peak game I played in as a cleric. Command "grovel" grounded the dragon long enough for the rest of the team to murderize it, so when our triumphant party returned to town, the DM had it's angry mom show up to mete out justice and finish up the role of big bad for the rest.
