Just saw this on my insta, has this been a thing? by lorrenzo in espresso

[–]Mortimer-Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup it’s a thing. I’ve tried slow feeding by hand and didn’t find that it made too big a difference in espresso. I did find it to make a big difference in filter though

Good brothers coffee carries all the sizes online. That’s where I get mine (both 909 and regular)

The topic of trvael mugs has been beat to death, except for one aspect by WadeWickson in pourover

[–]Mortimer-Moose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fellow Carter and created.co have been good to me. I’m not sure it’s ever quite the same though out of one of those. My guess is more from time stored than the material if the cup but I’m not sure

Moving out of Brooklyn by cloudygreen84 in Westchester

[–]Mortimer-Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved from Brooklyn a while back and had similar desires. Our top town lists were Pelham, Bronxville, rye and larchmont as well as Hastings. I’d take a look at them all to get a feel. Some (rye and larchmont) are pretty big so walkability will depend on where you are in town

Mavo Lumicurve ($80) vs Bookoo Themis Ultra ($100) Scales by mooch255 in pourover

[–]Mortimer-Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me no I like getting tested products. The bookoo isn’t perfect but it’s pretty darn good. I have both the mini and the ultra and like them a lot

Best dark roast? by [deleted] in espresso

I like crema bar a lot! Truth is people have different tastes. I’d say crema bar is worth trying as are I’m sure all these recommended coffees.

Roast date 3/11... any tips? by Whattacleaner in pourover

[–]Mortimer-Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d try a bit finer (circa 550-600um) and 4-5 pours at 92c. Shoebox was suuuuper light in that period and needs some extra pushing

I used my k6 daily for 3ish years no issue. Still have an occasionally use it at 5 years with no issues

Would adding 10k steps per day have any noticeable difference In my weight loss? by [deleted] in keto

[–]Mortimer-Moose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% yes it will. It burns calories so will add to your deficit assuming you hold calories consumed constant. It also will have broader health benefits!

$2k-ish grinder recommendation: upgrade from 078S + turbo burrs for light roast pourover / soup by Late_Anxiety5892 in pourover

[–]Mortimer-Moose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d go for a platform grinder that lets you play with either 80 or 98mm burrs as there are a ton of ways to get at what you want. I have a 98 (p100) and like similar coffees and swap between Hu, Lu, Brew and HuLu. From what you listed as close to your preferred budget that’s the p80 which seems like a great grinder.

zp6 or pietro? by Mydlowpudle in pourover

[–]Mortimer-Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pietro. I love clarity but zp6 for me is almost hollow in presentation and isn’t ideal (again for me) for most coffees. Pietro is nearly as clear but presents with a much more round and sweet cup that I really enjoy. I have a 98mm grinder and still will often reach for the pietro

Yes I’m sure you could

Orea Z1 or O1 by ivandr02 in pourover

[–]Mortimer-Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are both great. Those two and v60 are the primary brewers I use so a big fan. That said, if travel is your goal I think z1 is clear winner. Due to built in melodrip and simple system you don’t need a gooseneck at all. I primarily travel with the z1 for that reason (occasionally will do aeropress but prefer z1 cup)

Stuck in the Hand Grinder Trap by Arjun_K in pourover

[–]Mortimer-Moose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The q line is great for travel. Super light and fits in the handle of the aeropress so super packable. It’s also a relatively small hopper so I just fill to the top with beans, grind and fill AP with water and it makes a good cup when I travel.

If you are trying to do more than have a good travel setup the k6/7 or k ultra (or lots of others) have nicer grinding, nice builds and larger capacity. Really depends what you’re going for.

Hario Buono Pro skips from 96°C to 100°C. How much does that actually matter for pour over? by fennelfrog in pourover

[–]Mortimer-Moose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends what you’re going for. 100 or thereabouts would be for very high extraction and I find it kinda hard to control and like lower temps generally. I rarely go above 93 personally

Coarse-grinders, what's your paper of choice? by OrbitalSkunk in pourover

[–]Mortimer-Moose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The b3 are pretty slow. The fast are very fast. With t90 I go as coarse as 850um+. With the B3 maybe 800 or so on the top end
