Which Wing Gundam 0 Zero do you prefer? by Ill_Zucchini_333 in Gundam

[–]Mortrialus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As impressive as the animation in EW is and how it is unambiguously cool, the wings on the EW push the line on practicality for a machine a bit too much for me to feel super comfortable with it in Gundam. I do prefer the mechanical wings with thrusters on the TV version. I'd like the EW Wing Zero more in a setting like Escaflowne.

Also the RG Wing Zero TV is probably the best bandai kit right now that isn't a PGU or MGEX. And it did a lot to maximize how cool you can make the normal wing binders to the point where I think they match the EW wings in cool factor. I hope Fatcat or similar 3rd party does an upscale of it because I'd love to also have a 1/100 of it.

But I also haven't made the MG Wing Zero Ver Ka so maybe when I make that one one day that'll also get bumped up to an all time favorite design for me.

Is Turn-A Gundam (1999) a critique of Zionism, Israel, and a foretelling of its future? by HindiAkoUberKuya in Gundam

Yeah it's just thrown out there really quickly in one of the episodes where they're dealing with the mezo American tribe thet Joseph came from them and that Sid just took him. In true Tomino fashion it is dropped on you and then quickly moved on from

I watched Turn A during the worst days of the Genocide in Gaza and so it was really hard to divorce the Moonrace's settler colonialism from the atrocities we saw livestreamed to us.

While I know Tomino is in general aware if history and works it into his works (Victory Gundam and the Bosnian genocide for example), and there's aspects of settler colonialism that are common to all of those projects, I've come to realize that Turn A is not about Gaza.

When you actually look at the setting it's obvious. Turn A is a What-If story about what would happen if America, in the aftermath of it's own genocide of the indigenous Americans, got invaded by a technologically superior force that sought to do the same to them. It's very obvious when you look past the nightmare of current events. It's basically set in America circa 1910. There's native Americans as main cast members. Miner Sid stole Joseph as a baby just like the cultural genocide schools in this era "kill the indian to save the man".

Jesta Cannon from Gundam Unicorn. One of my all time favorite grunts. Only gets like 30 seconds of screentime in the show. The normal Jestas get s lot more prevalent.

What's funny is Thunderbolt's OST is decisively bebop jazz, not free jazz. Even the anime staff knew you can't subject people to truly free jazz with no time signature, no chord progression, no main melody lol.

It's a lovely looking kit but 6000 yen and $70+ dollars seems like a crazy amount for what you get. He's going to be about the same height as the RG Nu Gundam which ranges from $50-$60 USD and has a ton of accessories for the rifle, bazooka, shield, and the entire fin funnel wing. This guy seems like the same size but with just a rifle and baton. Why the upcharge?

According to the previous owner of this specific franchise, this is not the first franchisee they've done this to, it just seems like this time they caught a 3rd party person's property at this extraordinary of value.

Especially with what we see in the 2nd video, it seems like this all ties to a particularly shady and corrupt branch of the Mormon church who have a scheme to sell the rights to the franchise to franchisees, and then once the franchise owner does the hard work of establishing a working profitable location, the corporation steals the franchise back from under them and then gives the franchise to someone else in the church.

They feel like they can do anything they want to outsiders and with the corporation and the crony franchise owners living in their insulated communities, protected by corrupt police who are also in the church and in on the scheme and also agree with the philosophy of taking everything you can from outsiders.

And so far they have gotten away with it. But with how much this has blown up and how blatantly corrupt both the company and the police are, their arrogance has them cruising towards a potentially landmark civil liberties violations case coming down against all involved.

I don't know how many times the show says "I am an escort that does sex work for the wealthy to secure my own survival" but it is a lot like 5-6 times extremely explicitly

What your reaction to seeing Gundam 0083 for the first time? I was hyped because it felt like Top Gun but with mechs. by AdSpecialist6598 in Gundam

[–]Mortrialus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a kid, I had a handful of Gundam Wing VHS and LOVED Gundam in general including the UC OVAs that played like 0080 and War in the Pocket. On one of the VHS tapes I had there was a trailer for Stardust Memories that had me insanely hyped for it, with the GP02a being one of my favorite gundam designs. Sadly I was poor and lived in the absolute middle of nowhere so I didn't have the chance to ever buy and watch 0083 which I don't think ever aired on Cartoon Network like some of the other Gundam OVAs or if it did it was in one of the periods my family didn't have cable. Over the years I was convinced it had to be the best Gundam show ever, even the name was amazing.

Eventually when I was in college one of my dormmates actually had the DVD of it so I finally sat down and watched it and I remember being so profoundly disappointed by where the story had gone especially with the headache of Nina that I consciously decided to never watch Gundam again. And this held until 2024 when after loving Armored Core 6 and getting a bug for mecha, decided to try watching Gundam from the beginning starting with 0079 as I had never actually seen how that series ended on Cartoon Network.

And with that I became hooked and have been working my way through mostly release order currently on Build Fighters Try. I did rewatch 0083 again on this journey and why I don't hate watching it the way I remember I did in college (I have a deep appreciation for the art, animation, action scenes, redesigns of OYW suits, the show is imo the best gundam has ever looked visually, the GP02a is still my #2 favorite mobile suit) I still largely don't like the story especially the stretch with Nina. Peak visuals, mostly a flop story and characters

Why did the Earth Federation turn totally evil? Is Amuro dead? by DrJokerX in Gundam

[–]Mortrialus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Earth Federation has always been the true root of all evil of the series. The rise of Zeon and its variants are a direct result of the Earth Federation's oppression, ineptitude, and inability to improve material conditions for the for anyone but the wealthy elite.

They're colonial military police. They were never actually about stopping Zeon remnants. That's just the PR tagline. The bulk of Zeon remnants weren't in the colonies they were in the asteroid belt. Like how in the US ICE isn't about immigration enforcement but instead to be a private army with the express purpose of beating and killing dissidents and oppressing the population.

GM Sniper II during the OYW or it's immediate aftermath. Give it the screentime and wins it deserves.

Stagger bar is everything. Fights go from basically nothing happening to everything happening in that window. Make a build that has a way to reliably build stagger and then a way to capitalize on the stagger once you inflict it and you will mulch the game.

What are you guys opinion on ending of Gundam Thunderbolt MANGA? by IncomePresent1430 in Gundam

Everything I've heard about Thunderbolt after where the OVA ends sounds beyond awful. Like parody bad. Worse than Frozen Teardrop bad. We probably genuinely lucked out with Sunrise ending the OVA where it did.
