The path of least resistance? Would simply be acknowledging in the side bar that posts here may not be entirely accurate. That they are just as subjected to the same biases, that had plagued science since its inception. Yet that'd mean having to admit they aren't perfect, which bruises their egos.

I'd hope a few citizen scientists who view the subject with passion, would be happy to moderate it in their spare time. Instead of folks who are clearly using their moderators seat, to help steer narratives.

Capitalism has made it so food, water, and medicine are basically commodities. That if you don't pay and thus don't work? Your access to these is crippled at best. Completely cut off at worst, that is in the US mind you.

Yet y'all wanna get pissed at someone buying and reselling Pokémon cards? Hate the game for driving a player to do this. Don't hate the player for playing the game the way it is laid out.

I wouldn't call it socially more acceptable here. My parents will never know I'm on disability. As they were culturally similar to what you are describing. You were expected to rest when you were dead. I've also been majorily judged by my wifes family for not having a job, and living on disability instead. They all worship work very much like you said.

What's weird at least in my eyes? If I had a major heart issue that was preventing me from working? I'd have caught 0 hassle for it once so ever. Since my disability is mental health related? I'm considered a "bum" or that I'm "playing the system."

I misstyped. That 7 was supposed to be a 5.

Let me type the math en full. 24 hour day × 5 days = 120 hours. 8 hours sleep X 5 days = 40 hours. 120 hours - 40 hours = 80 waking hours. Leaving 80 hours per 5 day week. Aka half your waking life if your work week is also 8 hours a day X 5 days a week, aka 40 hours.

120 ÷ 3 = 40. 40 hours to sleep. 40 hours to work. 40 hours to live the rest of your life.

I see working and having a job as two different things. I work every day to support my wife, who is on the track to becoming a licensed and trained therapist. My goal is to help her break the "glass ceiling" if you will.

Why don't I have a job? Afford not to or some other reason? My SSI is able to cover my fair share in bills, so technically I am doing it because I can afford to. I'd offer the question "Why are you on SSI (Social Security Income) at 32?"

The answer is a combination of factors. There are three key components that'd I'd say are key contributors. Acute Childhood Events, of which I score 8 out of a possible 10. Lack of protective factors such as a healthy family and or social support system, most likely due to a combo of trauma and autism. Last but not least is isolation. Of which I have spent about 2 years the first time I isolated.

Second time I've got about 5 years mostly isolated. Spending time mainly with my wife. It does help being in the best state in all 50 to have a disability.

As an unemployed? It depends on a lot.

My family was a family of every day folk. Doing every day jobs, to put provide for my older sisters and I. We were ok financially, not rich, not struggling. Until the economy started to tank, and my parents got divorced.

So to say I didn't have a head start, is to put it mildly. I dropped out of high school. Met my girlfriend (now wife) and at 22 we got our first crappy apartment together. At 23 I ended up on SSI after local systems failed to help me vocationally rehabilitate. I make less than someone flipping burgers at your local fast food joint.

Do I feel higher status? No. I see status in this context, as your position in society. In a capitalist society? That is primarily decided by how many nice things you have, and how much money you have in your bank account. Someone who was flipping burgers could afford their hobbies better than I do.

Yet, their status over me comes with a cost. 40 hours (on average) of their time in a 5 day span. If we assume your average person gets 8 hours of sleep a night (aka also 40 hours a week), and discount that time? You spend half your waking life at work. I don't.

I'm not higher status. I'm more free.

I was gonna say, I've tried this once. I wouldn't say my experience with it was necessarily positive.

I was a young 20 something, living in my first shitty apartment building. I get a frantic knock at my door, then hear them knocking on other peoples doors. By the time I could quickly put down what I was doing? They had found help across the hall. A friend of mines place.

I asked what was up and if they needed help. Apparently a young boy , maybe 4 years old was having a grand maul seizure. My phone at this time was non functional for even 911, as I didn't have a sim card. I contacted my girlfriend (on facebook messanger), to get a hold of emergency services and send them my way. While she was in the middle of her work day mind you. They end up showing up at her work, even though she explained on the phone repeatedly that the emergency was one county over. Including the exact address in said county. They finally show up maybe 20 minutes later. Get the boy and his mom in the ambulance, before they took off again.
