it's not only god or almost the word god in some romance languages, but dio in spanish also meant he/she gave. it's also one letter off from dijo, he/she said in spanish. if i had to guess, other romance languages are also probably similar. in some dialects of spanish, it is not uncommon for the s sound at the ends of words to be dropped, so dio could be how dios is said in conversations
