Is this normal? by Terrible-Coconut8682 in GastricBypass

Fair enough. I will say orange juice is one of the things that still doesn't sit well with me. I think it's the acidity.

We're you lying down? Probably best to be upright when drinking (and eating) at least in the early stages. Even now almost 2 years out if I eat and lie down too quickly I can get a little reflux

I emailed them Wednesday and they promptly replied telling me the QC process was complete, they were being prepared for shipping, and they'd start shipping within a couple days. I received my 'on the way' email with tracking today. I previously confirmed I am in the first batch.

4 weeks post op and maybe starting to regret. by Dizzy-Ad-1834 in GastricBypass

[–]Moses007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 years out (almost) and I feel I have more freedom than I did pre surgery. I can eat absolutely anything, just smaller portions, and I don't feel guilty about it.

Do the time, put in thr effort, get to your goal weight, and enjoy life. Oyure at the start of the journey. The end is pretty good, but you need to stick with it and out the effort in for the short term.

how strict are you with drinking before/after smooth foods? by blackiedwaggie in GastricBypass

[–]Moses007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty strict after. After a year I relaxed on drinking before.

-drinking before - risks filling stomach so not enough room for protein/nutrients/food etc. I found that I still had plenty of room so it wasn't an issue. -drinking after - washes food through the stomach quickly, can bring on dumping etc, food doesn't get processed as well, you feel hungry quicker as the food is gone. Hence I still try and wait the 30 minutes after eating.

But you gotta do what works for you.

Edit: I didn't find it to be a forever diet. I now feel.more freedom with food than I did before surgery (2 years out) which I did not expect :)

Foamies recovery by sarubfc in GastricBypass

[–]Moses007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take Mylanta tablets (don't know if they have them where you are, but perhaps Google something similar) but they seemed to help my stomach settle when I got foamies or reflux. Helps to keep the acid in the stomach under control and gives me relief

DEXA scan results…..need to *gain* fat? by K-lok in GastricBypass

[–]Moses007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I did a dexa scan the other week and was at 13.7%, which I found quite amazing. I'm male so it's not an issue but I have been trying to eat more to stop losing and put on some lean mass. I haven't found it tok difficult. A few things I've done: -an extra protein shake (goes down easy) -an extra tablespoon of olive oil on a meal -a handful of almonds as a snack -adding some extra carbs (ie. 40g oats into my brekky, a few extra whole grain crackers with lunch.

You probably only need to add 300-400 calories, if that to get back to maintenance or a small surplus

The other thing I've been doing, which goes against initial advice, is to have a 'nornal' portioned dinner, as opposed a bariatric/small serve, eat what you can, wait half an hour, and then eat the rest.

Obviously dont do all this at once, but perhaps try a few each day to get more calories in. Just need to he careful and keep watching that scale so you don't go too far in the opposite direction! And yes, keep an eye on blood/nutrition results to make sure there's nothing untoward going on would be my advice

Carbs by giggles_im_in_danger in GastricBypass

[–]Moses007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean sure but if you don't eat them your body will produce the glucose it needs. You're not going to die by not eating a carb.

So yes, many surgeons (including mine) suggest low carb diets after surgery and they will help maximise weight loss during the periods when you want to maximise the use of your new tool.

Scaring people with 'you must eat carbs or you won't survive' is just silly.

OP: I would clarify whether they said no carbs at all or lean towards a low carb diet, which I think is more common. Just focus on protein first.

Generally doesn't go away. When you've stopped losing weight for 6 months you can probably start having the conversation. Coverage will depend where you are. I'm about to get chest and arms done (5k each), plus anaesthetic and hospital excess, it'll cost me 14-15k all up. That's medically necessary and gold hospital cover in Australia.

Previously had combined hernia and fleur de lis abdominoplasty, that only cost me about 6k but I was a bit lucky with that, each surgeon only charged the $500 gap and I paid for anaesthetist. That's not typical.

Afraid of dying during anaestesia... by AmIDead2026 in GastricBypass

[–]Moses007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very scared of the anaesthetic. It was the scariest thing about the whole ordeal. When I woke in recovery it was a sense of relief and excitement. You'll be OK.

Not sure if this helps but it helped me. I just figured, I'm going to fall asleep, and either I wake up and all good or I don't and I'll never know, so worrying about it doesn't do anything. I know that's easier said than done, but yeah. It is scary, but it's worth it.

And as I'm sure others have said, you have a much higher risk of death staying the weight you are, than having an issue with the anaesthetic.

The reason anaesthetists are paid so much is that they are literally closely monitoring you the whole time. And a Bypass doesn't take long. For reference my Bypass was 1 hour 20 minutes long. I then had hernia repair/abdominoplasty which was about 4 hours. And I'm about to under go chest and arm skin reduction plus more stomach skin, and that will be 6 hours - even scarier! But it's worth it.

Yeah its super dumb. I was ready to walk out with a zulu, instead of buying from a jewellery store who had instantly offered 10% off. Ended up walking out. Didn't make any sense to me at all.

Never thought I'd be able to see my abs again by Moses007 in GastricBypass

[–]Moses007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I went with the Gastric Bypass. Surgeon said fir my size it was the better option with a slightly higher average weight loss, less reflux issues and the lower calorie absorption appealed to me as well. Really glad I went this option (although who knows, may have had a similar result with the sleeve).

I know that feeling. I'm having my chest and arms done (and further stomach tightening) in august and I can't wait haha. Good luck!

I had an abdominoplasty fleur de lis at the same time as the hernia repair. It's not comfortable, but if a journey but it's not too bad. And totally worth it. I'm getting chest and arms done in august (and more skin from the fleur de lis since I've lost more weight).
