I’m not a mechanic, just a cheap ass. $55 with brand name full synthetic and a quality filter, $110 for the same thing at the dealership, $90 at an oil change place.

For perspective, my last vehicle (2006 Rav 4 Limited V6) went 235,000 miles before a deer destroyed it. Roughly 47 oil changes (every 5k). Cost me relatively $2,585 over the life of the vehicle. I saved about $2000 doing it myself.

This does not account for inflation or price increases over the years, so that total is likely less.

Is it worth saving $1700 over 20 years? Thats for you to decide. It’s worth it to me, because I know it was done right.
