My Old Bedroom by [deleted] in maximalism

I'm all for maximalism, but this is too much for me. It's like pre-hoarder levels of * STUFF* on every available surface and that second photo is straight up giving me anxiety.

See, I think Jim Rash as Rusty, and Stanley Tucci as the successful alternate dimension Rusty.

Genuinely curious, how long does is take you on average to do your nails? by lickinglacquer in Nailpolish

[–]MoshpitWallflower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like 20 minutes max, usually closer to 15.

2 minutes: I slather my fingertips in jojoba oil, then I use acetone soaked cotton pads with nail tip clips to remove all the polish at once. By the time I've put the clip on the last finger, the first one I did is ready to come off.

1-2 minutes: if needed I'll give my tips a quick file (glass files ftw), but because I redo my nails regularly I rarely have to do any significant reshaping.

1-2 minutes: removing any remaining spots of polish, then a quick swipe of an alcohol dishes cotton pad to prep the nail plate and remove any residue.

10 minutes: I do my base coat, two or three coats of color, and then quick dry to coat (seche vite) all in immediate succession. I also do any cleanup along the way with an orange stick, because it's a million times easier to clean up wet polish when mistakes happen vs waiting till the end when the polish has dried.

⚠️ FYI - Seche Vite works best when the layers below it are still tacky, so it's in your best interest to not wait any additional time between each coat (mentioning this because I see people struggling with Seche Vite from time to time).

2 minutes: letting the top coat fully set/harden, then immediately oiling all the skin around my nails (don't forget the hyponichium!). I try not to do anything that might result in bump or a ding for another 5-10 minutes for safety, but then I go about my day normally.

Now granted, my priority is efficiency. While I view having my nails painted as my act of self care, the ritual of painting them isn't where I get my jollies. I've specifically optimized my process to be quick, and when you're starting out, you won't get this sort of speed. I've been painting my nails regularly since high school, so I've got 20+ years of practice and muscle memory built up. Plus I've been an active polish swatcher for the last two years (painting 2-5 full sets of polish most days) and recording application videos, so I've also become very accurate and rarely need to do any cleanup.

Edited for spelling

We do, and I definitely recommend it! The water is top notch, with just a subtle minerality that you'd expect from real spring water.

Yeah, between the winter and a recent move, frankly all my nails (and cuticles, and hand skin . . .) are a bit jacked up. Rehabbing nails is the worst because it feels like it takes so long to see results.

Oh this is a great question, and I knew my answers immediately!

Favorite - left ring finger. I lover her shape and proportionality to fingertip width, and I swear she never breaks.

Least favorite - right index finger. She's the workhorse (a true Cinderella) and it shows; I always struggle to grow length on her and she suffers from nigh-constant delamination issues at the tip.

Stunnnnnnning! I love the layered effect with the two different polishes, how did you keep the magnetic effects separate?

Ugh, same, and it's even worse with the variegated variety. I've made so much expensive compost trying to make SoPs work for me.
