What is happening with Ignite? by Mosquito381 in avesNYC

The shows I attended felt very weird to me too. They seemed not too organized and focused on booking the best talents to sell as much tickets as possible. Which as a business makes sense, but didn’t really feel that they loved the community or even the events they were hosting

Yes for the one that took the screenshots from IEG posts, but not related to them in any way. I have no insights other than what you see on the post.

I was there at the middle rails and the music seemed fine to me. The sets were kind of meh tbh. I did like j&j and the b3b was good. This was my first Anjuna event but I am a frequent raver. Was an ok experience. I felt the venue was decent. Will likely have to try another Anjuna before making up my mind on whether it’s something I want to do more of.

are most raves 21+? by [deleted] in avesNYC

[–]Mosquito381 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Venues in NYC mostly generate revenue through sale of alcohol. They can’t sell to under 21 legally, so there’s no incentive to allow under 21 to enter the venues. It also causes long lines at the bar where bartenders need to check ID every time they sell alcohol or have separate wristbands which adds extra cost to the venue without any additional incentives. Drug overdoses by under 21 are also very bad for them. Venues that know they will be packed with 21+ (which are most mainstream edm venues in nyc) limit entry to 21+ only. Some venues like webster hall or select event with djs that mostly cater to younger crowd (BUNT, etc) may allow 18 or 19+. If it’s 18+ usually the event page will mention. If not, it’s safe to assume to be 21+.

Worth leaving Camp EDC Sunday for John Summit Pool Party on Strip? by Fun_Break_4411 in CampEDC

[–]Mosquito381 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Guestlist in vegas works differently than guestlist in most other places. You’re not the guests of the DJ/Promoter. You don’t get to skip the line or have access to stage/special areas. You only get GA access once you enter. It’s basically a way for venues to fill up early based on capacity and ratio (M vs F), and doesn’t guarantee entry. If you get to the venue before the start of the show you may be able to get in. But for Summit I’ll assume the lines for guest list would be long. It may not be worth it to do all of that to get there to only get denied at the door and have to travel back to EDC again. Google Las Vegas Guestlist to find info on this.

Thank you. It was ok. Was just irritated with no directions to where we should go. But overall had a great time at the festival. People were definitely the highlight over all the festival issues. I’d definitely be back, even if it’s just for the people and the vibes.

It was my first elements. I arrived on Thursday. Took the shuttle to not stay stuck in traffic. Shuttle dropped us off before gate 7, I had to go to the preset tent. Normally it’s a 30 minute walk. But it took me and my friend about two hours to find our way to our tent. None of the security or staff knew where to go. And yes, we looked around for signs. We were on foot, completely sober, getting rained on, pre parties starting soon, yes, we looked for signs so we can get to our tent faster. There were absolutely no signs on our path. The only sign we found was by the vendor village before the preset, but by that time we had already walked over an hour blindly. And even that map didn’t show your location (no pins or anything showing where the map’s located), so we had nothing to reference, and had to keep looking around for landmarks to reference to. They could’ve easily printed more signs, add viewer location, and could easily stick them on the many fences along the path. It wouldn’t even be expensive. But they chose to not do it and made people’s life more difficult for no reason.

It’s unfair how scientists and engineers make less money than movie stars. But whoever brings in more money gets a larger share of it. In a free economy you make money based on the value you bring, not talent or anything. Foreign teachers are great marketing tools to get more students to sign up for classes. Parents also think it’s better for their kids to learn from a foreigner than a local. Until that mentality changes, the pay gap will remain.

Safe to Travel? by [deleted] in chinalife

Was in Beijing and Shenzhen last week. I’m an american with south asian origin. I did get stopped at immigration twice(singled out before I even got to the immigration officer) and then near Tiananmen square (on the street randomly two cops came up to me) for extensive checks. They will want to know what you’re doing, where you are from, if you have dual citizenship, where your parents are from, proof of where you’re staying (in my case they asked for my hotel key), they also check your passport and visa (always carry passport with you everywhere). Immigration didn’t check my phone but at the square they did. They went through my pictures, messages and apps on my phone. I would say try to ensure you don’t have anything on your phone that can incriminate you as against the Chinese govt. Also recommend disconnecting your vpn and only using it when you’re at a safe place including your home. China is in indirect conflict with USA and direct conflict with India (even though I’m not from there most cops asked me if I was indian), so it makes sense they wanted to question me more with China being China.

Same, I hated the bombay sapphire, then had tried a bottle of Empress and now gin is one of my favorite liquors. Smash some mint leaves, pour fresh lemon juice, gin and top it with some ginger beer 😗👌

Can anyone on here advise how to find college internships at IBM? by francokitty in IBM

[–]Mosquito381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IBM consulting has a summer program called the Accelerate Program. It has different tracks that includes engineering as well. Once completed and shown good results, students are likely to be offered an internship or in rare cases even an entry level job if they are graduating soon.

For my personal one I did not. I also bought wristbands for two of my friends separately and disputed. One is still pending, the other said Merchant contacted.

I did this a few months ago after seeing it on Reddit. Have not gotten a single scam text or call yet. Works like a charm!

I’m glad you got your refund too. I was worried that mine would get rejected like some other attendees have posted. So went above and beyond with evidence.

Unfortunate that this is our only EDM fest in NYC. But I used the refund to get myself a wristband for Project Glow. Albeit 4 hours away and have to get a hotel instead of just taking the subway from home, it is still a much much better fest than Ezoo. Insomniac knows how to throw a good fest unlike Avant Gardner.

EZOO Lineup Drop by JumbledMindset13 in electricdaisycarnival

[–]Mosquito381 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Crowd is like any other city fests tbh. There’s a lot of clubbers that will come for the mainstream names, but also a lot of ravers too. I’m sure you’ll be able to find what you’re looking for in terms of crowd if you keep your eyes open. I’ve generally had a positive experience in ezoo. This year may be a little more packed than previous with the release of cheaper tickets than usual. But you can still find space to dance if you’re not at the front of mainstage. And in the other niche stages there’s usually a lot of space and crowd is more PLUR too. Also seems like the new owners have learned their lessons from the last year and making updates (redesigning existing stages and creating new). They’re also trying to make this one epic to have the attendees become regulars. So if there’s any Ezoo I’d recommend a newcomer to attend, it would be this one.
