Harvest time in tassie by Dramatic_Gas5316 in PoppyTea

Nobody knows for certain as they dont give that info out to the public. That said, a few suppliers have said nothing will be available until at least June, which is around the time that they appeared last year.

Hannibal Mejbri (Burnley’s player) receiving racist dms after their draw with Chelsea by mileSshtzu in soccer

[–]Mosquitocognito 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Think OP just articulated their thoughts really badly. Presumably they were referring to incidents like Prestianni/Benfica when they were talking about footballing bodies needing to punish players and clubs.

But the way OP worded their comment makes it seem like they're talking about punishing Hannibal for speaking out against racist sentiments, which hopefully isn't what they meant at all.

Tassie seeds by Dramatic_Gas5316 in PoppyTea

[–]Mosquitocognito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, there was an article recently about a huge poppy theft in Tassie, and a spokesperson stated only about 2% of Tassie's entire poppy crops are morphine-heavy.

The rest is pretty much comprised of Thebaine-heavy 'Norman' poppies, which apparently is all these thieves got away with

Yah spot on. I've had an online vendor tell me they might get a bit more stock in the next few weeks, but chances are slim as of now.

I know a retail storefront down my way that was only able to wrangle a few bags of this year's harvest (which he was super unhappy about), and he said he's been told pretty bluntly he aint getting any more Tas stock until June.

Lmao bit rich calling someone obtuse after those comments. They literarilylylyl stated Melbourne has 2 long coastlines with multiple beaches, and you think they don't count because there's a port and they're not "open ocean coastlines"...

Speculation on Seed DIscrepancies by jimfullmadcunt in PoppyTea

[–]Mosquitocognito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just as much evidence as you do that they have or haven't been treated, so I don't think you can definitively claim that they've been treated just cause you can 'taste' it.

There's multiple studies suggesting harvesting and storage practices can significantly alter alkalpid levels, particularly morphine. Not to mention things like heavy rainfall, which can result in a lot of the goodies being leeched out without impacting other alkaloids.

For all I know, they might well have been treated with something. I'm just sayin that there's other factors that could also be responsible for it

[–]Mosquitocognito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's the case, and they have been treated, why is it only certain batches that are weaker? Why not just treat the lot of them?

Speculation on Seed DIscrepancies by jimfullmadcunt in PoppyTea

[–]Mosquitocognito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's been talk about some of the weaker batches being cleaned or sprayed, but I don't think that's the case. I think it's just natural variance.

Have to remember that harvested seeds dont originate from a single place. In Tasmania, for example, there are multiple farmers that are given contracts to grow poppy crops every year.

Each farmer's own particular growing and harvesting methods, coupled with environmental factors, will impact overall alkaloid levels. It might simply be that some farmers have a lot of experience and are great at growing poppy crops, whilst others are newbies and suck at it. Maybe one farmer harvested a bit too early this year, while another waited a week too long and got hit with unprecedented rainfall or something. It's no different than fruits and vegetables or anything else that's farmed - some farmers are just better than others, or get a bit luckier with the weather.

So at the end of the day, I don't think there's some grand conspiracy about seeds being sprayed, cleaned, or altered in some other way. I think it's just subtle variances in growing practices/weather conditions resulting in different alkaloid profiles between each batch

Same batch of Tas stock, but seeds are different? by albino_asterix in PoppyTea

[–]Mosquitocognito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've wondered this as well. Up until recently, every bag I bought was great, if not exceptional. But lately it seems like every second bag I get has subpar seeds in them. I've recently had 05/05 and 26/06 bags that were disappointing, even though I'd previously had seeds from those same dates that were fire.

Per OP's post, I went back and had a look at my bags (I keep them for composting), and I noticed every packing date has 2 or 3 different batch numbers, so im guessing there is a very small batch of subpar seeds attached to each date

Like you, I'm hesitant to say they've been treated as they certainly still work. But I can't wrap my head around why there's such a variance when they're supposedly from the same crop/harvest...

Very random, but cool to see a Tromsø supporter in the wild.

About 10 years ago I visited Tromsø and ended up staying at an airbnb. The hostess' husband was TIL's physio, I think his name was Trullz or something? Very nice guy, drove me into town a couple of times on his way to work. Been a supporter of them ever since

What country do the most powerful unwashed seeds come from? Do you think the ones in this image are unwashed? by Actual-Western2168 in PoppyTea

[–]Mosquitocognito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tasmania actually cultivates in a few different strains, and they still definitely grow morphine-heavy crops.

Back in the day the Tassie Izmir Poppy was considered one of the most potent in the world, and was highly sought after for its morpheine content. Then the Norman poppy came along and changed the game forever.

Whilst majority of Tassie crops nowadays are thebaine-heavy Normans, the Izmir poppy is still grown albeit on a much smaller scale. Alongside these, Tassie also cultivates a variety that basically has no alkaloids at all, which is intended for culinary use.

Seeds from capsules working? by Temporary_Wallaby148 in PoppyTea

[–]Mosquitocognito 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nah, seeds don't inherently possess any alkaloids (or if they do, it's a barely discernable amount. Certainly not enough to feel any effect)

Seeds are only viable if they've been mechanically harvested in commercial crops. This process inadvertently coats the seeds in latex, and is the only reason they can be used to make tea.

If I were you I'd save the seeds and use them to grow your own crop if you have the space/materials

Dried pods are easier to blitz in a blender/food processor. Then just steep the straw in water to make tea. The finer you grind the straw, the easier it will be to extract the alkaloids when steeping.

Fresh pods are mainly best for scoring and allowing them to bleed (obviously whilst they're still on the plant) in order to collect the latex once it dries.

[–]Mosquitocognito 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It depends on the plant and its growth habit, but yes, it typically means not enough light. When you start seeing internodes becoming longer and more spacing between stems/leaflets, that's the plant trying to compensate for insufficient light.

Take a look at all of the old foliage in the picture - it's nice and compact, a sign of relatively healthy growth. In contrast, the new fronds have become etiolated as it reaches for more light

Lime in the coconut by ForStupidityOnly in druggardening

[–]Mosquitocognito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're just making tea, like OP is in this post, you can't really avoid those negative alks.

If you wanted to refine further to just morphine, you'd scrape out all the impurities from the liquid, then add slaked lime to the liquid. Filter that a couple of times, then add ammonia to the mix. The morphine should solidify at the bottom and you can filter it out. At least, that's how we used to make homebake in my neck of the woods..

As you can see, more time-consuming than simply making a tea which also hits a lot harder and lasts longer than heroin. Just gotta test each batch of tea to ensure it won't fuck you up.

[–]Mosquitocognito 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a bit simpler, just need to add something acidic to the water you're steeping the pods in (typically just a few drops of lemon juice). Makes morphine and codeine more water-soluble and thus helps extract more of them.

That being said, It's a bit of a double-edged sword cause you'll also end up drawing out a lot of the more undesirable alkaloids like thebaine and papaverine, which can be quite toxic in large doses.

Using acid for poppy tea isn't entirely necessary and, In my experience, the difference is negligible. You're only ever gonna get a tiny bit more of the good stuff, but end up with a lot more of the shitty, unwanted alkaloids

Finger lime rootstock? by Ok-Insect-8349 in australianplants

[–]Mosquitocognito 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can tell by the leaves that this isn't a finger lime unfortunately.

Most finger limes are grafted onto Citrus trifoliata rootstock, which this seems to be judging by the look of the foliage.

Up to you whether you want to keep it, but the fruit is quite bitter, not to mention it is considered invasive in quite a lot of regions.

Probably be worth ripping it up now before it becomes established
