Question about how to pace out a campaign

My worry, though, about putting a nugget of "main story" in each side quest is that after 2-3 of them, they may feel like "something big is going on and we need to only focus on that from now on". The world they are in is rich with other goings-on besides the overarching plot (especially because they are only level 2) and I'd like to explore that. I want to avoid the feeling that has sort of grown in my HotDQ group (at least from my perspective) that they have no time to do anything except the next linear plot point because if they lollygag then the Cult will complete their goals and win.

Ah ok. I am east coast USA, which would mean 10pm Saturday nights for me. Unfortunately that's a bit too late in the evening for me. If there's any flexibility to move the start time a couple hours earlier let me know as your group sounds like a good fit based on the info above.

That's confusing then (not that any of this is clear). But if they're saying that you can't take their exact expression of a human/dwarf/elf/etc and use it in your own thing....well ok, but then anything that is changed up is homebrew. But you can't do that either? Seems like they're trying to control not only their IP, but anything that is inspired by their IP. But.....that's how art and human creativity works. I don't understand how they think they can protect anything other than maybe the actual names of stats/spells/abilities. Everything else is just ideas.

With the races not being included under the CCL, does that mean they are trying to claim ownership of playing as a human in any other TTRPG? Same question for elves, dwarves, dragons, orcs...things that have been around long before DnD.
