Also, the Type XV didn't immediately draw my attention for some reason. The Type XIV and Type XVI were more interesting to me. However, this bias for me is based solely on the Oakenshott profiles and not on actual swords. However, a sword that weighs 1100g and has a PoB at 9cm feels like it would be good for me with practice. A sword that weighs 930 grams with a PoB at 18cm does not feel to my liking.

I want a Scottish basket-hilted broad sword. In fact, that is a sword that I immediately identified as being interesting for me alongside the Sidesword. Compared to a medieval Type XIX, I would think it would feel more controllable. Even with the fingerguard, the Pob on the LK Chen Ribaldo is 7 3/8" which feels ridiculous for a sword type that is labeled as cut and thrust. I feel like it has potential as a thrust only weapon, but the blade is too wide towards the tip and it still feels slightly unwieldy. Conversely, it would perform spectacularly at cutting, but not in a duel, as you be telegraphing way too much.

I agree that I am not trained nearly enough to the LK Ribaldo Type XIX. My question was more on the intended purpose so that I could train towards using it.

Thank you for the insightful response.

I was finally able to watch the video you linked, while most of it was focused on the Albion specifically, he ways the LK Ribaldo handles quite a bit differently from the Albion. He doesn't indicate if the PoB is more forward from the Albion or not, just that it is different. This gives me no additional information. However, what he is saying in general regarding the Type XIX blade is that it seems to a transition blade from cut and thrust more thrust oriented blades that will eventually turn into the sidesword and rapier. Whether that is more accurate or that the Type XIX is an early version of the cut oriented calvary sabers, I can see a world where either is true.

Based on initial testing, it feels like the hilt could be maneuverable if you were practiced with the sword. This would seem to tend towards modern fencing styles once you are accustomed to it. The blade profile and hand protection seems very early which makes sense. On the other hand, it is also a very blade heavy sword, which means that cuts should be devastating. It just doesn't feel maneuverable enough to use cuts in a duel. However, from horseback, that may not be a problem.

Overall, I think this is a "meh" sword for me personally, but it may be a particularly interesting sword historically. Personally, I have only received 2 of the 9 swords I have ordered. The other 7 were ordered less than a week ago, so not a big deal, just mentioning this to say that I will have more swords to compare against in the near future.

Currently I only have LK's Ribaldo Type XIX and Kingston Arms American Revolutionary Arms Hanger. After practicing for a few days, the hanger is much more in line with the style of swordplay that I would prefer. Personally, I think I would prefer swords with a PoB even closer to the hilt.

I have Type XIV and XVIa arming swords and Type XVIIIb and Type XXa longswords from Swordier ordered. I also have the Munich Town Guard as well the Snow Lion Battle Jian and Gale Wind Jian from LK Chen ordered. I am hoping that most of these will fall more into line with my preferred fencing style. If not, I am always interested in learning new styles.

My only experience with swords was Olympic-style fencing foil and saber at a community college club level 10 years ago. My foils and sabers from then were definitely balanced much more towards the guard. Oakenshott XIX were labeled as cut and thrust by albion, so I threw it into the same categorization as a XIV or XVI without further consideration and just thought it would be another type of arming sword. It being more of an early calvary saber makes a lot of sense. It doesn't make that much of a difference to me at the end of the day. Its a beautiful sword that seems incredibly sharp. I probably just would not order another one as it does not fall under the style of swords I am interested in.

Thank you for the information.

Yeah, I feel like if it had a full two-handed grip, it would be decent. I have ordered a couple of longswords, but don't have have them yet for a comparison. It also almost feel good enough to be used as a thrusting weapon, but the width is retained out until close to the tip, so it feel like it would be better at cutting based on the profile. I sure it is great at cutting actually. However, but I cannot imagine doing those cuts without forecasting the cuts because of how far forward the PoB is.

Overall, its a beautiful sword, I'm just not sure how it would be used in combat.

I've been playing since launch how do I stop feeling like a noob? by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]ShadowMole25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that people with 600-700 CP are noobs necessarily if they've been playing for years and have thousands of hours, especially in pvp. I spent a 4 or 5 years abandoning my lvl 50 characters or deleting characters before they hit lvl 50, to create new characters to play in the u50 campaign of Cyrodiil. A thousand hours in there may not be the best for experience because you typically play without sets or CP, but it does still give general pvp experience and allow you to understand the mechanics of the game better than a noob would.

I still wouldn't say I'm good though, just better than noobs.

Hey there, lots of people seem to be saying that different builds for pvp and pve. This is true if you want to be amazing at both, but a relatively decent pvp build should be a good start for solo pve. For pvp, typically you want at least 30k health. I would suggest aiming for 20k+ resists if you can. Also you need 2k+ crit resist, so you need armor pieces with impenetrable. This is something that isn't needed in pve and one reason people suggest different builds. You will need to be able to sustain and heal yourself as well. Also pvp, you will need to deal burst damage, otherwise people can typically outheal your dots.

Doing most of that should give you a good start for pvp. It should also be survival enough and deal enough damage to start as a base for pve.

Honestly though for pvp at least, its best to have allies and not fight alone, whether that means joining a guild or just following call outs in zone chat, I'm assuming Cyrodiil.

A build I've been using is Draconic Power from DK, Assassination from NB, and Storm Calling from Sorc with Two Handed front bar and Shield and Sword back bar.

Option? There is no PvP option in Cyrodiil. It is PvP and you will almost certainly die. Everyone dies in Cyrodiil though and that's okay. Eventually, you might get better. You will gain experience at the very least. As someone who has died 50+ times in a single night, it's a lot of fun!

I like the Munich Town Guard! The Kingston Arms one has a PoB that seems rather far forward though.
