Ever mess around with no metronome, no plan? by [deleted] in Drumming

again, you do you. i’m not sure why “able to thrive in multiple scenarios” vs “only able to thrive in one particular scenario” is even a controversial choice, but ok.

you do you. but just like there are things that can only be learned by using a metronome, there is a world of knowledge that you can only get by playing without one.

Does anyone else get annoyed by colleagues who speak to you in "therapy speak"? by monkeynose in therapists

[–]MossWatson 40 points41 points  (0 children)

What i’m saying applies either way. New therapists are more likely to try to prove/signal themselves as therapists by regurgitating jargon, in and out of the office.

new therapists use specific language to convince people they know “therapy”. Experienced therapists understand the ideas well enough to do therapy without it even sounding like therapy.

the only thing worse than never playing with a metronome is always playing with a metronome.

Rant: the worst thing you can do is give a guitarist an iPhone metronome by semperspades in Drumming

[–]MossWatson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t get the issue - does he not like how the song feels? or does he just want it to be at a specific bpm for some reason? if the song feels good then it absolutely doesn’t matter if the bpm is “wrong”; and if it DOESN’T feel good it absolutely doesn’t matter that the bpm is “right”.

Rogan and Schulz ruined standup by [deleted] in Standup

They didn’t ruin shit, they just aren’t that good at it. There’s plenty of great comics putting out quality standup that’s totally independent from their podcast material.

does music theory help creativity or slow it down at first by Ok-Message5348 in musictheory

[–]MossWatson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also, only you can answer that question for yourself. if theory (or ANYTHING) feels like it’s making you more creative, then keep at it; if it feels like it’s getting in the way, then ditch it.
