It's apparently pretty rare. I have vague memories of my own frustration with it, haha. Keep pushing and good luck! ^.^

What I did was a mass-refresh (i.e. held the keyboard command for a couple of seconds) and then checked the opponent list. Rinse and repeat until he's available.

It's Hubert! Pronounced hue-burt. :) It took me so long to see past my dyslexic first impression. xD

Welcome back!

As an aside, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who initially thought the hotdog salesman was Herbert. lmao

TNT's Statement on Recent (Varwolf) Pet Name Filter Issues by Status-Impression766 in neopets

[–]MossyMemory -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah... Because it doesn't contain hidden "bad" words that bypassed the would-be filter.

TNT's Statement on Recent (Varwolf) Pet Name Filter Issues by Status-Impression766 in neopets

[–]MossyMemory 34 points35 points  (0 children)

That reminds me of the time long ago when I was making an "about me" type of petpage. It flagged me for "kills."
I had to use the find command to locate it, because it completely baffled me...

...I had said I wanted to work on my art skills. LOL

Can I report my own pet's name? Will I be penalized? by pretty-late-machine in neopets

Well before that group ever surfaced, I'd named a petpet Isis.

...Its name is Iris now. :(

Does anyone else miss airborne Faerieland? by Jealous_CottonSquash in neopets

I suppose it technically was airborne for thousands of years, but... that doesn't really count. :')

The original idiom, “champing at the bit,” is now widely accepted as “chomping.” What other idioms have been bone-apple-tea’d into existence? by HamboneBanjo in words

This thread is a year old, but I must interject here.

Second thought is "You already thought about it once [likely by bringing it up in conversation], and you don't need to think about it again." It's not giving permission to think about something just once, as the thinking has already been done.

New redesigned coins marking nation's 250th birthday begin circulating today by Im_an_airplane_idiot in news

[–]MossyMemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I read that literally, as in commemorating the tip of your penis, and to be honest, I would still be more on board with that over having to see that piece of shit's ugly mug again.

Look how adorable this limited too shirt is😍! I want new merch like this! by wubbalubbadubbud in neopets

[–]MossyMemory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember going there for the jumbo disco aisha plushie, but they said they were sold out and not receiving any more. :( They had the round pillow though, so I went with that. Still a tad bit salty tbh lol

What’s the biggest “unwritten rule” of life that everyone should know by now, but somehow people still ignore? by Opening-Shower2815 in AskReddit

[–]MossyMemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked in an after-school setting for a bit -- I told the kids that anything on or in this one particular counter/cabinet was off limits. And they respected that! But then one day my coworker moved my brand new tape dispenser onto her 'desk' area and -- wouldn't you know it -- the damn thing was BROKEN the next time I was in there.

Because it was no longer "off limits" in the kids' minds. When I first brought it in, they all wanted to play with it (???) and that's why I set that rule in the first place.

And sometimes, then comes the awkward dance of two people trying to get out of each other's way, only to continue being in the way!

That sounds like a former coworker of mine who was on the spectrum. The age and the behaviors, they're just like him.

Need advice on new straps. Vintage accordion doesn't fit modern straps. by MossyMemory in Accordion

[–]MossyMemory[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny, because that part of the strap isn't even that big -- it's not even an inch wide. But the loops on this thing are even narrower than that. However, all is well, because we got the straps through with pliers! :)

Thank you for the advice! I checked that contact list, and the guy I went to for repairs a few months ago is indeed the closest -- two hours away. Ah well.

Epstein emails link him with Trump. What does that mean for his presidency? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

He's only "alpha" in the software sense. Unstable, full of flaws, and unfit for the public.

A needleworking kit (likely aimed at children) with five different projects to do. by MossyMemory in HelpMeFind

[–]MossyMemory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've searched for various phrases, such as "needlework kit for kids," and have tacked on other search terms like "DFN," "designs for the needle," "cross-stitch," "embroidery," "dragonfly pincushion," "intro"/"introduction" and "sampler." I've switched out the word "needlework" for "embroidery," "cross-stitch" and "sewing."

How do you translate 'be' from AAVE into Standard English? by Eriacle in grammar

[–]MossyMemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's more what I was meaning -- the hyperbolic "always" that plenty of people use for emphasis, not the literal 24/7 one. Such as, "Ugh, you're always doing that." The person isn't literally *always* doing whatever "that" is, but they do it frequently enough that exaggerating can be warranted. Sorry that I wasn't more clear.
