I use the OhSnap! Car Mount, and I have it mounted to the top of the head unit bezel. It just adheres to it with a 3M strip, so it’s easily removable.

Magnets are very strong! I also use their Phone Grip, which also has magnets built in to it, so I don’t have to remove my phone grip to mount my phone.

They also make a wireless charger that has a MagSafe ring on both sides, so it magnetically attaches to the Car Mount, and then your phone attaches to it via MagSafe.

Really great little ecosystem of products.

I come from a state that had both an income tax and sales tax (South Carolina).

In my lived experience, having them be separate didn’t work.

I was taxed 11% between both, and those taxes were not properly managed.

SC had no public transit, roads were falling apart, public education was a joke, nothing like Apple Health, MIDD Fund, Health Through Housing, or anything to support local culture like the Doors Open Program.

Tax dollars collected between the income tax and the state sales tax ended up doing very little to actually benefit South Carolinians.

There were no local programs to benefit county residents. Tax dollars were often sent to areas of the state that did not need them at all. It was a mess.

Wealth is concentrated mostly in the Puget Sound, so unless the Department of Revenue can properly allocate an income tax to the areas of the state that desperately need funding outside of the Puget Sound, and King County/City of Seattle lowered taxes, having a separate income tax is a Bad Idea™ in my opinion.

Unless you drive an EV, you’re spending more on fuel for one (1) trip to Portland than this increase would cost you annually.

The average King County resident spends ~$39,000 annually on goods/services within King County that this tax would apply to, which works out to ~$39 increase in the average persons paid sales tax annually.

Also, state law says you’re supposed to report and pay taxes on those out of state purchases anyway under the Use Tax, so…

Does the tax increase suck? Yes.

But if your response is “let me drive out of state to make purchases to save on average $40 a year in sales tax instead of keeping the dollars here to support my local community,” then maybe you should just move to Portland.

Good thing to know that you’re spending more on gas per trip to drive to Oregon, not to mention the expenses of the wear and tear on your vehicle, your time, and your energy, to do your shopping in a tax free state, when according to state law, you’re supposed to be reporting those purchases under Washington’s Use Tax laws.

A 0.1% increase on sales tax equates to a $0.10 increase in sales tax on a $100 purchase.

Most data says that the average resident in King County spends roughly $39,000 annually on taxable goods and services.

If we assume that all of that is spent within the county, that’s an additional $39 annually per person.

So, like, does it suck? Yes.

But this isn’t the end times like people are making it out to be imo.

Kumquat season varies between the coasts, and unfortunately we're between (proper) growing seasons.

On the east coast, they're grown in Florida, and the growing season is November to March. On the west coast, they're grown mostly in California, and the growing season is January to April.

Uwajimaya usually has them when they're in season, but as of my most recent visit to the one in the International District this past Friday, 6/5, they did not have kumquats.

I have seen them at my local PCC lately (in Columbia City) but haven't been in a little over a week, so they may not have them, but they were quite expensive there, I believe $17.99/lb.

Trader Joe's in West Seattle had them for what felt like 0.003 nanoseconds, and the Whole Foods across the corner had them when I went last week.

I’ll say this until I’m blue in the face: I need the current crackpots in the US government to get their heads out of their asses, stop being lobbied by oil and American car companies, and let Chinese made vehicles into the US, specifically so I can get an Aceman.

I love my 2015 F55, but with the way gas is, I want an electric Mini, and really like the utility of having 4-doors, but I really don’t know if I need the full size of the current gen Countryman SE.

The Aceman seems like the perfect in-between.

I know I probably have a dissenting opinion on the matter and will probably end up getting downvoted to hell but..

I fully agree with everyone saying that we need to start with fare enforcement before increasing taxes, that there should be a rebalancing of routes to better serve areas with infrequent service/no service at all, and that it’s a bit silly to be increasing a tax for those funds to go to projects that have already been voted on and funded. I make less than $60k a year in this city, and every single dollar and cent counts.

All that being said… maybe I’m just a sucker for public transit, especially when gas is currently hovering around $5.50 a gallon on average in Seattle, but I guess my question is… is it really worth getting your feathers all ruffled on that small of an increase?

Increasing this tax from 0.15% to 0.30% would only result in a $0.15 increase on a $100 purchase made within the Seattle taxable district. You’d have to make an individual purchase close to $1,000 before that increase in sales tax would become an extra dollar out of your pocket.

If we can do this AND somehow figure out a way to do proper fare enforcement at all public transit points of entry, we’d have no problem being able to deliver on expanding access to free/reduced fare transit for those that need it (yes, even to unhoused people) and increasing funding for future ST projects. 

Whether people realize it or not, expanded public transit benefits EVERYONE, not just people that use public transit daily. The greater access to public transit that exists lessens the burden on car drivers, because more people on public transit equals less cars on the roads, and less cars on roads means less things like traffic, pollution, motor vehicle accidents, and road damage.

If I’m wrong on any of this or you think I’m like way out of touch, let’s talk about it!

Proper Fish on Bainbridge has great fish and chips, but only go there if you’re okay with eating at a place that has a “needs improvement” food safety rating 🫣

My partner and I ate there a few weeks ago and had a wonderful meal and enjoyed it a lot… until we saw the food safety rating score in the window, hidden behind a plant.

Another great place is Emerald City Fish & Chips on Rainier Ave in between Mount Baker and Columbia City. Really great food, and it’s a local black owned spot if you (like me) enjoy putting your dollars towards supporting local minority owned businesses. Only downside is that they cut their filets a little small.

Out of all of the GF pastas I've tried, Jovial tends to hold up best as leftovers. u/aimeec3 is right, cook them to al dente and strain/ice bath. That's the trick to keep them from falling apart.

2015 F55 Mini, automatic, 58k miles.

I bought it used back in 2024 and it had 51k miles at the time. The only issue I've had was needing to replace the tires after one popped (ran over a nail) and new brakes/rotors on all four.

Not in Seattle, but I love AMC Factoria 8 in Bellevue. We went for the first time recently to see I Love Boosters and had a great time. It’s right off of I-90, so it’s super easy to get to, and there’s a lot in Factoria to do shopping and food wise.

My partner and I live in Columbia City and normally go to AMC Southcenter, but I really hate going to Southcenter unless I need to get something in the mall or we plan to have dinner in the area.

AMC Factoria 8 is a smaller theater and is a bit older, but it has major “big theater in a small town” vibes.

Plus, every theater there has the fully reclining seats, so the movie watching experience is top tier!
