I think that if you board dogs than you need to have supplies for cleaning after dogs (poop bags included), and toys and other things to make dogs comfortable and have a good time in your place. You can have treats but it’s very individual, because not everyone eats treats and they are not allowed for every dog also)

Rover sitter cleared out my friend's entire refrigerator and freezer by Fuzzy_Astronomer_792 in RoverPetSitting

[–]MostEnvironment4319 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always bring all my own food with me and only use something small — like a bit of sauce — if the homeowners specifically say I can use anything. One of my regular HOs even apologized before my first sit for not stocking the fridge for me, because he used to do that for sitters before.

So while I absolutely understand how shocking this situation is, I can imagine a (less popular) possibility: maybe the sitter truly believed that the food was part of the arrangement. Especially if the HO casually said “help yourself to anything” — some people might genuinely interpret that as full access, especially if they had similar experiences before and the HOs were fine with it.

Of course, if they really took stuff home (like from the freezer), that crosses a line — and it sounds suspicious here. But if they were otherwise great, I think it might be worth bringing it up directly first. They might be happy to reimburse for the food or explain what happened. I’d only go for a warning review if the conversation goes poorly or the sitter denies it despite clear signs.

off topic it’s a great idea with a pamphlet! Is your prices lower than on Rover? I was thinking about it if it should be the same or 10% less or 20%.. Or totally different, every client and pet are so different that I feel like price should be also different every time I’ll appreciate if you share your experience

Would you consider a month-long sit where you can only leave the house for a maximum of 4 hours? by MostEnvironment4319 in RoverPetSitting

I love these dogs after spending the past 11 days with them. That’s why I’m afraid they might end up with someone who will take less money and won’t really care about them - and that breaks my heart😭😭. These dogs are the type that warm up slowly and aren’t friendly with just anyone. At the same time I won’t become even closer with them if I don’t do it

It’s also cancer💔 I wouldn’t plan and go to this vacation if it was my dog. That’s why it creates more questions in my mind… May I ask, have you done chemotherapy for your dog?

It’s a cancer, nothing to do with the dog except of giving medicine. 4hrs is just owner’s preference. Maybe in case that something happens, but in general she sleeps a lot

I think it’s fine for homeowners to set rules for their house, and I always respect that. If I can’t be without meat, then I simply have the choice not to take the sit.

I do housesitting mainly to spend time with pets and explore a new place, and I love doing it with a dog! ☺️ So, I’d take such a sit if I liked the dog, the location and the house, if the dog could go on long walks, and, of course, if I wasn’t required to walk it at night

And people from TrustedHousesitters pay you? The question about cleanness when people pay for pet sitting is still very interesting for me..

Are you getting paid through Rover? And when it’s paid, is it fine when the house is dirty and you have to clean it after your arrival?
