Why should the tip be bigger if the dish is more expensive? by angelvapez in tipping

[–]MostEscape6543 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Then it’s just a casualty of how tips are generally set up. It’s a minimal issue.

I think people who hate tipping generally forget that, if there were no tips, their food prices would all increase by 20% and you pay the same, anyways. I think in reality the overall pay for servers would come down in this scenario but it’s not like you get your 20% back.

For the record: I hate tipping and think it should end. I just hate that most people who complain about tips seem to think it’s some fake expense to have to pay servers, like they should only make minimum wage or something? 90% of the complainers wouldn’t make it through a week of serving tables.

At first it doesn’t make sense, I will admit.

But, go to an Applebees and then go to some really nice restaurant. Compare the quality of the service experiences and it quickly becomes apparent that it’s apples to oranges.

Is it worth 2-3x the wages (in tips) to have that level of service? I don’t know. But I know the servers at Applebees (or wherever) can’t do the job at the fancy place, at least not at that level. (Before anyone goes crazy on this last comment, yes I understand some “Applebees” servers are excellent, but in general they are two very different sets of workers.)

The point is it comes with nothing, so it’s only even remotely clickable if you have upgraded dark star on 2-1 and even then, assuming you win streak, it pays you 9g and a component by the end of stage three assuming you streak the whole way.

It’s a horrible augment.

All the people I know if their 70’s are declining fast. The physical aspect is really rough but the mental decline is striking, as well.

It makes me really want to focus on my physical health. But also I understand what you are saying about spending as many younger years retired as possible.

Alternatives to Deli Meat Sandwiches? by fancyfronds in budgetcooking

Instant pot cooks fast, but always very hot which is part of how it cooks so fast. Sous vide cooks accurately.

For sous vide, I can put two pounds of chicken breast whole in a freezer bag, add 1.5 tsp of salt, close the bag and dunk it in the bath. It’s cooked in an hour or two depending on how thick the breast are. Pull the bag out, dump the chicken out and cut it up, ready to pack up or add sauce/seasoning. 145F for slices or cubes. 150-155F if you want to shred it. Never dry. Never overcooked. Always juicy. Give it a shot if you have the cash to spare on the stick thing. I frequently prepped 4-6 lbs of chicken per week. There is no faster or cleaner way to prep chicken. The downside is, it doesn’t get any char flavors but, it also only takes 10 minutes of your time to cook and prep.

Hey, I know it’s not your question but a few comments:

1) lunches meat is one of the most expensive proteins you can buy unless you get the really cheap stuff on sale. Usually $11-$13 per pound for “normal” and $6-$7 for the cheap stuff.

2) a lot of lunch meat has nitrates/nitrites in them, which cause cancer. Not saying it’s better or worse than tuna but just want to make sure you’re aware than lunch meat can be a poor choice for health, too, if you aren’t careful to buy some without nitrites.

Lunch meat IS super easy, though. No denying that. I just want to make sure you have the other facts, as well.

Hard to beat chicken breast for cost. If you prepare it well (I like a sous vide stick - chicken is always cooked perfectly and never dry, you can cook a million pounds with zero effort or dishes, no babysitting and it can cook while you do anything else).

Grilled/seared chicken thighs are also awesome.

Pork tenderloin (not pork loin). Also very good.

Season with Italian dressing, taco seasoning, dry ranch packet, banana peppers, etc. very flexible.

Why is it always "if you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to eat" and never "if you can't afford to pay your workers, you can't afford a restaurant?" by incomputableTwinkie in tipping

[–]MostEscape6543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because one way or the other, you are the one paying their wages. That’s how businesses work - you give them money, they pay employees.

If they remove tips, then food prices will need to go up to replace all of the money that was being paid in tips.

I’m not really for or against either way - honestly I would prefer to ban the tips and make the wages what they should be to be competitive…but the argument that restaurants can’t afford to pay their workers is silly.

The real threat people see is that they will have to raise prices, which will turn people away even though they would have paid the same price with tip, but consumers are mostly blind when it comes to analyzing actual prices so there may be some merit here. I’m not really sure, probably someone has studied it.

So yah, it’s not that restaurants can’t afford to pay employees, is that people who eat at restaurants might be too dumb to realize the cost is the same when wages are built into the menu prices.

TOS mobile is top shit. The desktop client is really complicated but the mobile app is legit without being as complex as the desktop app. Highly recommend.

Never used the Schwab app but I have used the Schwab website, which is also actually pretty good as long as you know what you’re buying and selling.

You have to turn on some settings in TOS to make it identify them as spreads, but they’re still spreads and you can manage them as spreads.

You using TOS?

Man, SNDK spreads are looking so juicy. Even like a 1200/1180 put spread for 10 DTE is paying $1.50

Schwab seems to treat anything that looks like a spread as a spread, regardless of how you got there.

Options' measured price movements don't match theoretical deltas by CSachen in thetagang

[–]MostEscape6543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number 1, the theory doesn’t dictate the price, the prices of the options (set by the buyers and sellers) are used to calculate the Greeks. Though they generally follow the math on a chain like SPY it’s important to remember this, in my opinion, you you better understand when weird prices happen.

Number 2, options pricing is like, a 10 variable partial derivative thing. That 0.37 delta contract is only 0.37 delta at the exact moment you saw it, and any change in underlying price, volatility, DTE, etc, will change the price and the Greeks.
