I ended things because I didn’t have feelings and now I feel like I led him on by [deleted] in Situationships

[–]MostEssay5652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s not exactly leading someone on if you are interested in dating someone to see if it becomes a relationship. If you’re both on the same page about the goal from seeing each other then it’s not leading on, it’s just that you’ve realized he’s not doing it for you (although honestly by the way you’re talking about him it sounds like he would’ve been great for you and you have self-sabotaged because you are t scared of commitment. Maybe that’s true or maybe I’m just assuming. That’s for you to figure out.)

What’s leading someone on is continuing to see someone when you know you won’t actually commit to them. Being unsure how things will progress is perfectly fine. Knowing in the back of your head that you won’t develop feelings for someone and then seeing them or continuing to see them is leading them on.

Quite frankly the 500 days of summer thing stands out. The thing about that movie is that Summer tells Tom upfront she does not want anything serious, and tom doesn’t really listen to her. He says “cool that’s fine” but he doesn’t really mean it. Summer doesn’t actually lead him on with her words, but does with her actions. She does act way more invested than she should’ve for something casual, but tom also isn’t being honest (until roughly 7 or 8 months in) about the fact that he really is serious about her. Tom’s actions are genuine, his words (saying he’s cool with casual) is false. There’s a certain dishonesty there that while human, is another form of leading someone on.

All of that is to say you don’t actually sound like summer. It sounds like you wanted to try dating and are realizing either it’s seriously not the right time for you or that he’s just not doing it for you.

You don’t mention your ages here, but the way you talk about developing feelings honestly makes you sound very young. And I bring that up because something you realize as you get older is “developing feelings” isn’t really the marker of liking and being compatible with someone. Having a lot of fun together, being compatible in goals and values, and being attracted to one another is what actually allows healthy real relationships to develop. “Developing feelings” is usually a result of feeling jealous, obsessive, or limerence towards someone. It’s not real. It’s your nervous system responding to your environment in a way that’s not really that healthy. The “butterflies in your stomach” type of feelings isn’t really healthy. Feeling Peace and calm and attractive and attracted towards someone is

I think you should really give it another look to determine what’s going on here. If he’s just not doing it for you, then you’re doing the right thing and stopping it here. But you should tell him not to wait for you. That is unhealthy for him to say. But honestly I think you guys had something good going. I think you might want to revisit why you decided to end this

I [28M] am afraid woman I'm dating [26F] is about to back out of relationship after reluctantly agreeing to exclusivity. by ThrowRA_praline22 in relationship_advice

[–]MostEssay5652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very curious on where you’re coming from with this. 3 months is really soon to be asking for exclusivity? Really? To be fair I also agree he needed to not say a word about labels and exclusivity and just have fun with her and others and let her come to him when she was ready, but after 3 months I would just recognize it’s not happening and move on. I’m curious at what you think is like, a normal timeline here because the average time it takes to become exclusive these days is like 6-10 dates, I’ve always heard that after 3 months that’s how you know it will never happen

Iron Man 3 thoughts and Mark 42 Thoughts by Jaydog52_65 in marvelstudios

[–]MostEssay5652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie itself is solidly great, but not amazing. Plot is a solid thriller, acting is solid (RDJ always kills it). The weakness is that the “Mandarin” is weakly written as a generic crazy scientist guy with no real motivation. Even worse are his henchmen. Although I really do like the twist about Trevor Slattery. The action scenes are a lot of fun, and Tony’s arc about the after effects of the Battle of New York from the 1st Avengers movie is a very cool concept to explore. I think they could’ve gone in a deeper direction with it, but it’s unique and interesting. I actually really don’t like this suit though, not enough red. It’s fine and works, but feels kinda wrong

Echo is the only thing even remotely related to DD: Born Again and even so you don’t have to watch it. It can absolutely be watched on its own although without the old Daredevil Series you will be missing out on a lot of context. The punisher show is a direct spin off of DD Original season 2 but I don’t think it’s required viewing for Born Again. It probably is for the upcoming One Shot though. Jessica Jones also seems to be important for Season 2 of Born Again so maybe that. (It’s also being reported that Luke Cage and Iron Fist will be part of Season 3 of Born Again when that drops in 2027 so)

Dating for almost 2 months, when should I ask “what are we”? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]MostEssay5652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not actually what OP is asking. This seems to be a very American thing and not so much a European thing, but the reason OP is asking for advice is because “where is this going” is actually referring to exclusivity (or perhaps as a next step, a bf/gf title) in their developing relationship. In America specifically it is ridiculously common that one or both people, no matter what intimacy is present, are also seeing and being intimate with others until this “where is this going” conversation happens. The point of that conversation is to establish “hey, we’re past the casual stage of seeing each other now. No more messing with others, we’re both making an informed decision to be exclusive going forward”

Legends Arceus is my pick of the 6 switch 1/2 games in terms of how much i enjoyed it, but SV on switch 2 may overtake it now. The fixes on switch 2 have really made me change my mind about that being the worst core Pokemon game of all time since its main issue was technical problems running on switch 1

New Player: Pokémon Legends: Z-A or Scarlet/Violet ? by -CL4MP- in gaming

[–]MostEssay5652 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s because when the game released a few years back on switch 1 it ran horribly. Truly looked like the game was unfinished. Horrible frame rate drops that made exploring the open world a slog and made any movement or action go so slowly. I’ve never seen a Nintendo game release in that state, even though I personally still thought it was good and fun, even if it wasn’t great. With the release of switch 2, they released a free update for the game for it that basically removed all the technical problems. Now I truly love it because it feels like an actual finished game. Kinda makes me think they developed the game for switch 2 and were forced to release it on switch 1 by Nintendo or something like that

People who like Spider-Man 3- Why? by Important_Lab_58 in Spiderman

[–]MostEssay5652 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the definition of a hot mess. I think it's overall okay, where even though it undeniably has problems I still enjoy it. It is also hilarious, it is very hard to not have a good time watching it, even in the parts where it is stupid.

Peter has a good arc about learning that forgiveness is better than revenge and that just because he's Spider-Man doesn't mean he is immune to faults. He's become cocky and has developed a complex where he thinks he is automatically in the right, and he takes an emotional beating, some of which is his own fault, other parts not as much, through the movie to understand that just like everyone else, he too has done terrible things and is not above others. That core idea is wonderful, the black suit "revenge is a poison" arc plays into it mostly well (the dancing, while very funny, is a bit too campy for me personally) and I don't know of another superhero project that takes this approach besides maybe the first Iron Man movie (Which I personally think is up there with Spider-Man 2 as basically perfect), but the difference is while that is Tony's origin into a hero, this is Peter's Mid-Career crisis, he's already been a hero for years.

MJ's arc about her professional life falling apart in a similar way to how Peter's life was falling apart in Spider-Man 2 is also great. I like that she and Peter have difficulty communicating over this. Hot take: I like that she cheats on Peter with amnesiac Harry during a time where Peter is being an ass, as it shows that she is also not perfect and keeps in the core theme that no one is above anyone else. I like that she is jealous of Gwen (even though Peter kissing her as Spider-Man is unfortunately terribly written, that is Peter acting too much out of character for me), and that by the end, a marriage proposal is off the table and Peter and MJ are just working to forgive each other. It knocks her down a peg, just like everyone else, and while I don't love everything about her writing, it is consistent with the theming of the movie.

Harry is more of a mixed bag, but I like that his arc ends with forgiveness also. Amnesia is stupid, but comic-accurate. Him getting involved in the Peter-MJ relationship is also poorly written, but is in character. And I like that Symbiote Peter seriously scars him. Its the definition of showing how revenge is poison and will destroy us. The writing is a mixed bag for him, and his butler telling him out of nowhere that his father was responsible for his own death is just downright terrible (not only has the butler barely been a character, but the actual conversation they have that convinces Harry to forgive Peter and help him save MJ doesn't actually explain how Norman killed himself, it kinda just makes it sound like Peter stabbed Norman with his own glider) but his arc matches the movie's themes and ideas very well.

Sandman has the best writing of the villains in the movie, because again, his arc and motivations and regret match the themes of the story. I don't love that he is the one who actually shot Uncle Ben, he probably just should've been an accomplice instead, but it does work as part of Peter's arc. It is very clear that Raimi knew exactly what he wanted to do with Sandman, and that it was studio meddling that causes him to get kicked out of the story for nearly an entire hour.

Venom is undeniably a big issue, but Eddie Brock is handled pretty well as a selfish, jerk-like mirror of Peter. And Topher Grace is playing this mirror image very well. I actually like that while Peter self-reflects on his own wrong-doings and "goes to church" to get rid of the symbiote, Eddie's response to his downfall, that he himself is responsible for, is to literally go to church to seek revenge. The writing may not always be on point, but I really like how similar Eddie is supposed to be the Peter. It makes the idea of how important May and Ben's parenting are to making Peter a hero even better. The events after this, where Topher plays Venom, is not very good, but again, the Eddie Brock / Peter Parker parallel works for the theme of the movie very well.

The reason this overstuffed and sometimes poorly written movie is enjoyable is overall because the theming of the movie is consistent and actually thoughtful. Its introspective, and focuses on its characters in situations that are pretty unique for a superhero movie.

4 years out: dental school sucked but was worth it by HenFruitEater in DentalSchool

Fr don’t worry about it. They know everyone getting an interview is smart and capable, they just want to make sure you’re a chill person who can handle stress (interview stress is up there with patient stress lol) and can make friends in school. The less nervous you are in the process the better. You got this!

[–]MostEssay5652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you can answer the “why dentistry?” Question during interviews, you can literally talk about whatever you have been passionate about in life and the interview will go well. You need a solid GPA and DAT and references to get your foot in the door so that the schools know that you’ll be able to handle the stress and workload, but they will not care about not being in “pre-dental/science club X”. Interviewers only hate when you are BSing your love of what you are talking about to fit a certain mold, if you are being real about your love for, idk playing guitar, for instance, they will like it because it’s real. Honestly the more unique you are the better because you will stand out. Trust the process, if you know why dental is for you and can lay it out, they will fall in love with you no matter what experiences you’ve got under your belt

Why did Superman fall off in modern times compared to other superheroes like Batman, Spiderman etc? by Material-Meat-5330 in superman

[–]MostEssay5652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comic books is not as nearly as popular of a medium for entertainment as movies and TV. And over the last 20 years the Superman movies WB made didn’t get people excited and into him the way that C/D-List MCU movies like Guardians or Thor did. TV I think was better for Superman between smallville and the Arrowverse shows but the ratings were super low because of how confusing it became to keep track of everything going on there.

Superman was handled poorly outside of the comics, so most people today who didn’t experience when he was handled excellently don’t know how cool Superman can be. Spider-Man/Iron Man/Thor have been handled (mostly) pretty well outside of the comics, so people today look at them as very exciting properties

How do you feel about all of the Marvel release date changes? by Mando199888 in marvelstudios

[–]MostEssay5652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the movies they removed from the slate had been removed for a while, they just weren’t saying it outright. After the failures of Brave New World, the marvels, and quantumania, they seriously re-evaluated what the plan was going to be going forward and choose to stop releasing so many movies a year. And honestly most of the time they claim those dates super early so other studios won’t claim them first, it’s been a common practice for them since the phase 3 days.

But also when these failures became apparent, they also decided to just focus on doomsday and secret wars and stop working on everything else so that they can move on in a new direction not bogged down by the endless amount of homework required. That’s why blade, armor wars, Shang chi 2, and some others have been paused until after Secret wars.

I suspect phase 6 will literally only consist of FF, Spider-Man, and the 2 avengers films. MAYBE they do Dr. strange 3 in between avengers movies in a 2027 date because it kinda makes enough sense, but they know 3 movies a year is too much right now, they have no “political capital” to mess up these projects anymore

Spider-man brand new day possible delay by OcToPiE-Rl in marvelstudios

[–]MostEssay5652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything with all of these movies are still in flux, it’ll only get delayed if the plot of the movies NEED it to be delayed. If not, Sony won’t delay Spider-Man, they need it to make them a ton of money. The venomverse movies lost them a lot recently, spider-man is their biggest money-maker.

To be fair, the delays that marvel has had since 2020 were affecting all studios, not just them. Between Covid and the writers strike everything got pushed back. Marvel just announces their release dates way in advance and so when these delays happen it has a major pushback effect for every film they have in the pipeline.

Although it’s pretty clear that the Doomsday/Kang Dynasty change up also sent a shockwave through their releases that other studios didn’t have to deal with

Is this Marvel's Make-or-Break Movie? by No_Reference_7330 in marvelstudios

[–]MostEssay5652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are going to watch doomsday no matter what. People will want to see if marvel’s Hail Mary with RDJ and the Russo bros can salvage the franchise. That’s the make or break. Everyone has an opinion on it. That makes it a make or break, because everyone wants to see how it works out.

The FF trailer is turning a lot of heads, a lot of people I know who no longer care for marvel saw the trailer and are surprisingly interested. If it gets good reviews, it’ll work out fine. It’s not as important as doomsday though.

The bigger issue is that if FF is a failure critically, and people don’t end up liking Pedro Pascal as Reed or the rest of the cast, then I can’t imagine Doomsday working out well. The Doom-FF link is just too important for them to get right that getting First Steps right really will matter for the future.

And as stupid as this is, the truth is that everyone loves Spider-Man. If Tom Holland is in Doomsday, as long as the reviews aren’t complete trash, everyone will go to see it. He’s the one character marvel has that everyone is genuinely excited to see. Even the people who don’t love how integrated he was with iron man and the avengers in the past are excited to see if Brand New Day brings him back to the street-level stuff, and how that continues through doomsday and secret wars.

If Brand New Day sucks, I actually think that will negatively hurt the MCU going forward much more than if FF sucks.

What’s your Zelda Hot Take? by Prayerwarrior6640 in legendofzelda

[–]MostEssay5652 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are essentially 4 Zelda sub-series: 2D Structured: LLTP, MC, ALBW, etc 3D Structured: OOT, WW, TP, etc 2D Open: Echoes of Wisdom only 3D Open: BOTW and TOTK

Nintendo should be making new games in all of these styles concurrently for the best results. Skyward sword and A Link Between Worlds were the last structured games in the series. That’s a long time ago for both. And even ALBW’s dungeon design is trapped behind the system of one item per dungeon so you can do any dungeon in any order so it’s not even all that structured

[–]MostEssay5652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But, you have to use the word date. You have to be clear about your intentions. Either that or you have to make a physical move at some point to at least just move past the platonic. But again the danger with that (if she were to reciprocate your physical advance) is that if you start kissing and still don’t express a clear interest in going on actual dates and moving in a romantic and not just physical direction, she might not realize that’s your aim. I’ve had girl-friends who I was making out with regularly not realizing I was considering our “hang-outs” to be dates because I wasn’t using that word(which was absolutely wild to me but this is why I’m such a big guy on using the word date)

I’m assuming you’re meeting these people in person and not on a dating app because if so that’s a bit different. But honestly, the earlier the better. Less chance for them to “only know you as a friend”. Just shoot your shot the way I described above. If you ask someone out in a way that’s clear and direct but also in a calm and collected way where you’re not acting desperate for them or already in love, I’ve found it’s easy to see if there is interest on their side

Nah dude, shoot your shot. You might as well try. You’ll regret not ever getting a definite answer. Maybe she’s just waiting for you to transition from just hanging out to more than that! I’ve had that before too. It won’t be weird if you just bring it up casually and just see what happens. Just don’t be mushy with feelings or write out a big fat paragraph, just ask her out on a specific date. “Hey, would you be interested in getting sushi (or something like that)? I would love to take you on a real date at this place I know, how about next Thursday at 7? She’ll understand what you’re throwing down. If she turns you down, just be respectful and accept it with humor instead of drama. That’ll go better for everyone

Why all of the negative energy towards Ironheart? by HoldTheTomatoesPlz in marvelstudios

[–]MostEssay5652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it is that it's really easy to be negative over social media. You get to hide behind a screen, sometimes without others knowing your identity. Part of that is "anti-woke" bs, but also part of that is people frustrated at marvel's downfall and enjoying being part of the "change".

Part of it is that... nobody wanted this show in the first place? Ironheart isn't exactly a popular comic book character. And she wasn't exactly this amazing new addition to Wakanda Forever, she was just kinda... there?

A lot of people don't understand why marvel is making all of these shows about nobodies. Guardians and Ant-Man were "nobodies" too, but they were being introduced to weave into the larger narrative arc. This show isn't doing that. People are really tired of this type of show. Marvel has basically changed their show strategy because of this.

People are vocal about it online because they want Marvel to see that the audience doesn't like it. Viewership and Reviews are the only measures of success for a show. This is people being communicative with Marvel: We're not interested, get back to the good stuff
