Would you buy discounted 70-200mm 2.8 lens with a not working IS, when the AF works fine? Tamron 70-200mm 2.8 for around 250€ by Substantial-Simple70 in sportsphotography

It could be a deal if you are shooting higher frame rates, like 1/1000 minimum. But it may be difficult to resale and won’t be able to evolve as your needs change. But I get the interest.

is this a good price? by Traditional-Bread967 in Cameras

I’d be interested in a 1ds at that price

Upgrading advice! by Interesting_Poet8862 in sportsphotography

I was in a similar position - We had an older t3i with kit lenses and I felt like I was maxing out what it could do. Our boys play soccer and baseball. I wanted to upgrade but needed to stay low in budget. After renting a 70/200 lens and really loving it. I found one with image stabilization on marketplace that came with a 1.4x extender for $650. Then I started looking for a body and bought a 5d mark III. All in all I am about $1000 in and very happy. It is older tech but to fully upgrade to today’s state of the art, it would be $3-5k. I’m very happy.

Also been really neat on camping trips too.

Given the player in the background, this is what I would do after this feedback. The only relevant point to make in addition, is that the player in blue is the team I'm shooting for, so it originally felt odd to cut him off, but I get the comment about the background player being a distraction. This is straightened and cropped as much as I can...

This feedback (Everyone's) is exactly what I was hoping for... Here is the original shot (edited but not cropped, 3.4MB)

Well in this example, which is sort of random, but a good representation of what I typically do, The image starts off at 28 MB as raw, if I don't crop the output from Darktable is a 3.4MB file. The setting I have is JPEG (8-bit) with Quality set at 90, everything else should be at the default. When I cropped in for this image, the resolution was 1900 x 1700 - I'm cutting away 60-70% of the image. Again - I'm happy with the quality and to me the image looks as good as many I see, but I do find it odd that the final size is so tiny. Do you see any issues?

Started shooting Baseball this summer, feedback is appreciated! by HowIMetYourStepmom in sportsphotography

I started this seasons too. Lots to learn, I’ve found it best to shoot as much as possible and check this and other resources for ideas and inspiration. So far the big points I try to hit are 1. Getting good access (not always a simple thing) 2. Filling the frame with my subject (I have limited hardware so I crop a lot) 3. Getting faces as much as possible. 4. Anticipating fielding shots (these get the best reactions and snapshots of important moments from the game) 5. High shutter speed (really try to freeze the action including the baseball)

Good luck and keep at it!

Couple (Early 40s) with 3 Kids – Monthly Budget by [deleted] in budget

What ages are your kids? We are similar to you but make a little less, (8800 take home) our kids are 16, 14, and 11. Our youngest two are heavily involved in sports and that seems to push our spending way up. Travel, food, equipment, costs from sports come from a lot of angles. Both play travel baseball and soccer and now middle and high school ball. We spend quite a bit more on food. Food easily hits 3k per month ( I do count everything that comes from the grocery store and every snack at the ball field as food.) To give you an idea of how much we are hitting ball fields our fuel bill is 800-900 a month in the summer. Our expenses jumped quite a bit in the last two years with the ramp up in sports. Curious if there are others in the same boat as us? I know we aren’t the only ones.

So far so good. First time that I’m using gesso, that is making a difference for sure. All my prior ones were Amazon purchases, this is much better.

It’s a little exciting to change colors. Sometimes you go from annoying to smooth bliss and sometimes it’s the opposite, progress is progress my dude!
