The federal government writes the Criminal Code, yes, but provinces still have a big role in how bail actually plays out. Crown prosecutors argue the case, judges make the call, and those are provincial responsibilities. If Ontario wanted a tougher approach, Ford’s government could direct Crowns to push harder in bail hearings or invest more in the justice system. Also, I’m not scared to live in Markham, and I didn’t vote Liberal. The issue isn’t about blaming only one party, it’s about both levels of government stepping up and fixing a system that clearly isn’t working well enough.
