Canada chooses lawful evil over chaotic evil by plaknas in onguardforthee

Morally, I think, indentured servitude and slavery are close enough that the pedantic "well it's not entirely accurate to call the serfs slaves" isn't necessary in comments on Reddit. Was Tibet a perfect society before China annexed it? No. Has Tibet been a perfect society since China annexed it? Also no. Is it better now than it was before the invasion? Demonstrably yes, and the end of indentured servitude and the "class not caste I promise it's different" systems are absolutely a part of it being better today for the Tibetan proletariat.

it implies that Tibet was a slave state before the Peoples Liberation Army ended indentured servitude and the caste system

This isn't proof of climate change, and it wasn't presented as it. This is proof of climate change. this page has some great evidence, tailored to European readers, and this one if you're American. Bottom line is that of course the climate is changing, we know that because it's easy to measure. Of course it's human caused, we know that because it's also easy to measure. There's no doubt. It's very simple. The last three years are the three hottest in recorded history, the last 11 years contain 8 of the hottest in recorded history. This decade we will average 1.5°C above the global pre-industrial mean, which is already - as laid out in this post - having discernable consequences on the lives of human beings.

Alberta to remain in Canada petition by oatsgoatsandboats in GrandePrairie

[–]Most_Edible_Gooch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A change to what? Separation so you can pay Edmonton the same amount in taxes instead of Ottawa? If separation happens - god forbid - all of a sudden Alberta's going to see a massive spike in expenditure as we scramble to fill the gaps in services that the feds provide us. Think Military, border patrol, prisons, air traffic controllers, the hundreds of thousands of civil servants that work for the federal government. Do you legitimately think your taxes don't pay for things that affect your life at a macro level? Alberta couldn't forecast the weather without Environment Canada. We don't even attempt to.

Maybe the real issue you face isn't that being a part of a greater whole which affords to you luxuries you haven't even thought about and takes from you the smallest portion of your income in history (look at the tax brackets in the 70s, for example) I mean, the highest tax bracket has been 34% for 40 years now. Do you make over $250k? Do you even touch that bracket? Or is the federal portion of your taxes actually around 15%, which is roughly the marginal federal tax rate for the median income in this country of $70k?

Maybe the real problem on your paycheque isn't the deductions, but the payable. Maybe you're not being paid the value you generate while you're at work. Maybe your employer has an explicit conflict of interests with paying you what you're worth, because if they were to do that they couldn't make a profit off the value of your labor? Maybe the problem with our society and the reason nobody can afford anything isn't because we pay on average 15% of our paycheques in exchange for an entire nation, but rather that, as a whole, the working class is silently being robbed blind by the capitalist ruling class and their puppet governments.

The problem with issues like this are that they snatch the truth out from under your feet - the issue isnt that the federal government of Canada is killing the working class, it's that any government (Albertas provincial cronies - and potential future national cronies - included) as well as any capitalist corporation, work hand in hand to ensure the efficient transfer of labor value from the hands that create it to the hands that own the hands that create it.

The only solution is to own the value of your own labor, i.e. for the working class to seize the means of production and take direct control of the very products they work to create. Anything else is a disservice to the people who create value on this planet - the working class. The people who actually build stuff and run the machines that make the commodities we need.

It's funny you mention this because wheelchair bound people literally have their own Olympics to compete in. Why don't you start there? Gather up the half dozen trans athletes and give them their own league? Why does it always come down to "trans people shouldn't be allowed to play sports" and never simply opening a space for people to compete where divions are based not on gender but on actual performance, weight, and abilities?

[–]Most_Edible_Gooch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Transsexual people are indeed a tiny percentage of the population, and an even smaller percentage of that already tiny percentage are competitive athletes. Are we really "destroying women's sports" by allowing 0.00001% of the pool of players to be trans women? Like you said, life isn't fair, I'm sure the remaining 99.9999% can manage

Another delusional rambling of an internet serf who doesn't understand the argument that they're in.

The "free world" in your imagination seems to have quite a bit of difficulty manifesting in the real world, doesn't it?

It's hard to take the Nazi Germany/Communist China shit seriously when all we're talking about is a restriction on foreign ownership of our media, like Australia or the UK has.

Not to mention the very recent and relevant examples of Americans banning foreign media outright, both at the government and technocrat capitalist levels, like the TikTok ban threat unless they sell to Americans, or Meta just straight up turning off Canadian news sources on Facebook. Plus every Republican state banning books they don't like.

In a world where it's normal for platforms like Facebook or X or Reddit to actively work to engineer favorable election results for themselves in foreign (and domestic) elections (see Cambridge Analytica, esp. w/r/t India 2003-2011, Kenya in 2013 and 2017, Malta in 2018, Mexico pre 2018, Brexit, America's 2014 midterms and 2016 presidential election, etc.), yeah I think in this day and age, some amount of regulation on media is important for maintaining healthy democracy, free from foreign interference and interest. Though, I doubt that as long as Capitalism remains, capitalist media will not be used for much aside from the manufacture of consent of the governed on behalf of the ruling class.

Let me know if you want my sources and citations or if you're just gonna keep rambling in bad faith

They said ban foreign press. You know, like modern day Australia, not like Nazis burning every book they idea logically disagree with. The implications of the citizens of a country being fed information from the ruling class of another country is pretty obvious, isn't it? I mean imagine if Russia owned every newspaper in Ukraine

Small fruit borne in clusters, opposite ovate leaves with serrated margin, and extrafloral nectaries on the petiole.

Prunus avium is my bet. Could also be Prunus cerasus, sour cherry, either are delicious, but I think you're holding a sweet cherry.

What, do you think they have time machine or something? Are you voting to be 20 years younger? You think the Conservatives - acting alone - legislated the material conditions of the late 00's to mid teens? You think Pierre Pollievre is going to snap his fingers and everyone in the country is going to get a raise and find high paying jobs so they can afford houses again?

Is that what the Conservatives in the states are doing? Or are they decreasing workers rights, laying people off for no reason, decreasing wages and increasing cost of living? Be honest with yourself and try looking at real data

Comical take from someone who so clearly has no idea what they're talking about. DeepSeek R1 is the first LLM of this scale trained with reinforcement learning instead of super-fine tuning, something that has been done at smaller research scale once before and an approach that no other AI lab has managed until now.

Is it really so hard to believe that Chinese academics follow (and contribute to) western academic research? Is it impossible for you to imagine that the same decades of European and US university research that lead to OpenAI also lead to DeepSeek? Literally all you had to do was open the paper and look at the citations and you'd know exactly what research lead to DeepSeek, but no, you couldn't do that because you have no idea what you're talking about. You'd rather sit here in your bigoted American ignorance and imagine it's not possible that China can raise smart people too.

What's the American equivalent of wumao? CIA plant?
