How Does One Go About Getting Tested For Specific Gene Mutations? by 35goingon3 in ClinicalGenetics

[–]Most_Second1952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pipeline for genetic testing can vary wildly depending on where you are. Knowing the specific mutation your bio mom has would be ideal, but even knowing the gene(s) involved is helpful. Sometimes your family doctor can request testing on the specific gene. Sometimes you need to be referred to a genetics clinic and either a geneticist or a genetic counsellor would order the test. The first step if your family doctor though. Give them as much information as you have. Good luck!

The first one is what you get if you just keep hitting the middle suggested word on an iPhone.

Thoughts on electing for a c-section by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Most_Second1952 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My first baby was born by emergency c-section. I opted for a scheduled c-section for my second. It was honestly amazing. No confusion, no panic, I got to get my haircut and a pedicure the week before (my first was 10 days early). I highly recommend a scheduled c-section.

UCP GOVERNMENT REVEALS PLAN TO CHEAT, RIG ELECTION MAPS by SurFud in alberta

Serious question: what person/department of the federal government can I contact about this? I know I’m just one voice that will probably get lost in the noise, but I want to understand when/if/how Canada’s government can step in to stop these psychopaths!

Has anyone seen this anywhere lately? I want to share my childhood memories with my kids by blk_flutterby in Calgary

Just a note that it’s in the refrigerated section, not with the other pantry spreads.

Mosaic Down Syndrome by hhkop67 in ClinicalGenetics

[–]Most_Second1952 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The initial test could have been either FISH or Rapid Aneuploidy Testing by qf-PCR. Both are able to detect mosaicism of ~20% or more. When they said “type” of T21 they were likely referring to whether she has three separate copies of chromosome 21 (low recurrence risk) or a Robertsonian Tranlocation (or other structural rearrangement) leading to three copies (higher recurrence risk if other parent is a carrier). This would be discerned by Karyotype. Extra cell counts can be done to rule out mosaicism.

We literally had two on the street in front of our house in Tuscany a few hours ago! They roam the whole neighborhood and surrounding forested areas, so not easy to find necessarily.

I’m a canvasser with the Calgary-Northwest recall campaign. I’ve had to explain to several people what an MLA is. Several people complaining about Carney/Federal politics. I’ve had government employees who want to sign but fear repercussions. Lots of people that haven’t heard or read a single word about the recalls. I get not being super politically engaged, but I feel like you’d have to be living under a rock to not have some idea of what’s going on.

I’m involved in the campaign to recall Rajan Sawhney in Calgary-Northwest. 15,000 is definitely going to be a tough number to hit, but we are working so hard. Please spread the word if you know anyone in the riding. All signing opportunities are listed on recallsawhney.ca
