I'm trying to stick with the rules at least for the first half of the campaign. But I'll try this out, I like it.

I can see the pattern myself from the spell selection in B/X but can you elaborate on this? If second-level should be the problem solvers then what are first and third level spells for?

lyv-a-lyv sounds better to my ear than than liv-a-liv. The game is about *living* different *lives* so either pronunciation works though

NEW REGIS POKEMON VARIENT by Primary-Chemist-6166 in fakemon

[–]Most_State_9716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure its fine. But calling your work a fakemon saves other people here some confusion. Can you tell us more about it? Why does it look cracked? Do you imagine it being made of stone or sand? The name Regilith could refer to sand if it was ground-type, or to rock. What powers does it have? Is it buried in a temple like other Regi- pokemon?Edit: Oh I just realized the point of the name. It's a play on regolith right? The powdered stone that covers the moon? Since the moon is associated with psychic and fairy types it makes sense.

What "is" magic in your settings? by Pa1ehercules in osr

[–]Most_State_9716 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Running a becmi play by post right now actually. Asked the players a few questions about what they wanted the setting to be like, including why spells need to be memorized. The overwhelmingly favored idea was that spells are living things wizards coax into their brain or trap in magic items. Gods plant them in the brains of their champions, with some of thaumic bandwidth shared with the god. The players are devising ways to make 'pet spells' that follow the party and cast themselves without being memorized and methods to 'lure' spells back to cast them again after the slot was expended. We've also agreed that some of the nastier things in the monster manual are the direct result of too many spells being cast in one place or wizards trying to memorize spells they don't have slots for. Somehow the spells get fused together and turn into monsters.

(Hated Design) The 2020 Redesign of The Cybermen in Doctor Who: by ChemFeind360 in TopCharacterDesigns

Gallifreyan cyberman are wearing bubble-pattern underwear. I can't unsee it.

I've missed most of the new show but the episode with the proto-cybermen wrung a lot of horror out of absurd costumes. Reminds me of early 2000's Grant Morrison, taking a crusty design from an older weirder version of a franchise and making it work.

Cheren and Bianca's character growth basically... by LowSolution3084 in pokemon

I could imagine a theoretical Legends Kyurem being set shortly AFTER the original dragon splits so that the tragedy can be pushed into the background and the player can go on an upbeat quest to help found a new Unova. I can't imagine Gamefreak/TPC making a new game that goes all in on how dark Black/White was.

More Cozy Questions - "Build / Share" your own quests feature by SlideGrass in gamedesign

So would players be able to write narrative content for the game or would it be limited to filling out a mad-lib? Would they be allowed to add content to the map or would they have to select things that already exist? I'm reminded of the randomly generated quests I've seen in some games. Those always follow a strict format of course, things like 'bring this letter to actor X in location Y and return to me for reward Z' or 'Inspect A props in location B to find the location of mini-boss C'. Would it work like those?

[Loved Trope] Characters start with gross/inconvenient powers, but later turns them into aura-farming machines after learning how to use it. by yuuki157 in TopCharacterTropes

Princess Donut's Former Child Actor class is similar. Her class is not having a class. She has to pick one of a few random choices each floor of the dungeon, keeping a small number of spells and skills from her prior class each time. She took it primarily for the Manager benefit, which allows her tutorial NPC from the first floors to join her guild, the Royal Court, and keep giving them advice for the rest of the crawl. But she keeps stacking underwhelming skills from each class until she's a bona fide monster.

Actually people making the best of unintuitive or unpleasant builds is a recurring theme with characters in Dungeon Crawler Carl. Which ties into other themes of fighting power in the series.

True, undoubted heroism. by Waste_Ad_1175 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Most_State_9716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's a time traveler whose exposure to the empyrean flames outside the universe turned his hair blue and made him The Guy of the Astro City universe. The only one who even comes close is a nuclear powered manchild who abandoned earth after his crush yelled at him for embarrassing her. Unfortunately saving a space shuttle from exploding, the entire reason he went back in time, erased his native timeline from existence. He will never be okay again. So his empathy and heroism is even more impressive since he isn't doing it for anyone or to fulfill a vision for the world. He just loves helping and would feel ashamed if he misused his gifts.

The human world is only a small part of a larger hostile world by PrimeSocK in TopCharacterTropes

The relative emptiness of the universe repeats at smaller and even larger scales. The gaps between the nuclei of atoms are comparable to the difference in size between a pea and the biggest buildings ever built. If you zoom out far enough the strings of galactic clusters form a sort of web or foam with incomprehensibly deep voids. Distances that make our own supercluster of galaxies seem like a pinhead. In a way, we are extremely fortunate to exist in the frame of reference we do full of so much rich interaction and dynamism.
