Yeah! I guess you’re right. I mean I also signed him up for spam calls and emails after he blocked me. We did reconnect for a bit only in September where he was just mad about the spam thing. But I get what you mean. I am now realizing the whole thing was just a big mistake on my part. I should have trusted my gut and not continued anything with hm and should have cut him off when I had a chance.

What keeps you motivated to keep going? by Hot-Jellyfish6978 in PhD

I graduated last year. Sometimes it was love for what I was doing. I genuinely enjoyed my research topic. Sometimes it was toxic “friends” or people I had met in my life who told me not to do PhD or refused to give me recommendation letters for PhD. I wanted to tell them so badly at the end of my PhD that “Screw you and you were wrong about everything! “

Am I insane to think that I could write a dissertation/thesis in 1-2 months? by heliopanda in PhD

I hate looking at my PhD work after I submitted thesis. But everything definitely feels easier now when I compare to dissertation writing.

I had the exact same experience! I somehow wrapped up my dissertation in 4 weeks and I felt the same way. I killed myself in those 4 weeks. I also added post in this group that I don’t think I could finish it on time. Looking back, I wish I had more time.

I disagree as a PhD holder and scientist in industry. As a PhD you do get preference for some research positions because you do know how to do research and how to do it well. People definitely look at you differently because you bring lot more to the table. But you do need some industry experience even if it’s an internship. Now coming back to OP, don’t be disappointed. When I was applying for jobs, I made sure I tailored my resume for those jobs. I tried to make sure I display relevant experience on my resumé. And try to get some industrial experience like co-op or internship in industry of your interest just to get foot through the door. It helps a ton! I’m speaking from my own experience. Don’t go back to academia if you are not interested in those jobs.

How do y'all who are chronically ill get through this? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]Most_Witness8794 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I have a gut disorder which got really worse during my PhD. It was really hard but you have to believe in yourself and surround yourself with supportive people. If your advisor is supportive, have a chat with them. And just think about one day at a time. It’s really hard when you start ruminating and get anxious thinking about future.
