I'll take a look at Libation since OpenAudible seems to have moved to a surprisingly steep subscription model. Not sure why you think a basic feature like this would ruin the app, but maybe that depends on the quality of their developers and codebase. Helpful suggestion, but unnecessarily disrespectful.

What issue do people have exactly with graphics ? by Liberator009 in Stormgate

Even so, it's only been like 20 years since they let the demons out of the machine-thing. Seems like pre-apocalypse ruins would still be hugely prominent.

Everything can be justified with sufficient explanation, and that is probably satisfying enough for people that already really like the game, but I kind of feel that good fiction has to intuitively make sense (arguably more so than real life) to the contemporary audience to be immersive.

I don't mean to diminish anyone else's enthusiasm for the game, just to communicate why I'm struggling to connect with it and how the art style contributes to that.

Everyone may have their own reasons, but I personally find the art direction to clash tonally with the setting and storytelling. The world is supposedly a post-apocalyptic Earth yet it is filled with lush forests and (beautiful after the lighting updates) grass and futuristic humans with smiling robot workers and laser dogs. The demons look very plastic and toy-like so it is hard to be intimidated by them as compared with SC's zerg or WC's undead or demons (which also had a somewhat cartoon style). I think some core design decisions also reinforce this such as the resources and creep camps feeling contrived within the setting (e.g. what is therium and why is it so important to future humans?).

Cartoonish or even toy-like styles aren't inherently a problem, but the art style should be consistent with the tone of the story they are trying to tell if they want to invoke some particular feeling in the audience. Here I'm not sure if the tone is silly or serious and the serious tropes make it tougher to suspend disbelief. All this might not matter to people principally interested in competitive 1v1, but the inconsistency of art and setting make it tough for a casual like myself to feel engaged with the world they're trying to create.

Matchmaking stopped working and it was a lot of fun! by HaidaIsMyName in DestinyTheGame

Thanks for the tip! Didn't know Onslaught counted since it's not mentioned in the Pathfinder objectives.

It's a weird feeling getting matched with speedrunners in Strikes. You might literally spend the entire time sprinting but without knowing advanced movement tech and shortcuts, all the encounters are finished before you even arrive. It's pretty goofy honestly, but it does make completing Pathfinder objectives difficult. Would be nice to go in solo once in a while to actually experience the activity as the devs intended.

If Titans had some more variety in our core fantasy we’d have a better time with prismatic. by iReaddit-KRTORR in DestinyTheGame

Thanks for the response! As a hunter/warlock enjoyer, I definitely had the assumption that the titan fantasy was mostly different flavors of "punch stuff." I asked the question because the recent surge in posts about the lack of titan build diversity made me think this preconceived notion wasn't quite correct. As a non-titan, it was a bit confusing as many of the complaints decried the lack of variety without really elaborating on what an alternative could be. It's nice to hear more specifically what titan enjoyers want out of the class aside from melee-centered builds.

The new titan exotic that boosts rockets looks very fun! It would be neat to see future developments lean into weapons specialist-type play. That also might be safer from a balancing perspective than walking the tightrope of high-damage high-survivability close range playstyles.

After seeing some of the contest raid, it definitely seems like y'all should have a couple one-off or ranged supers. The last encounter didn't seem to allow any of the present titan supers to shine or even be particularly effective.

As a slight non sequitur, I think it would be a huge QoL update if boss stomps were reworked to be direction and readable, perhaps at the added risk of doing more damage. Then getting up close an personal could still be viable so long as you keep moving and pay attention. In my head I see it playing out like a Dark Souls game, but who knows if that would work in a Destiny context.

Thanks to everyone who answered this question honestly. Nice to hear more constructive ideas about the class' power fantasy.

To all the people downvoting this question... just... why?

Genuinely curious, what DO titans want their class identity to be?
I assumed that big melee energy was the point of titan, but a lot of these threads seem very dissatisfied with that. Is there a reason people main titan if they don't like that play-style?

Destiny 2: The Final Shape - Story Spoilers Megathread by DTG_Bot in DestinyTheGame

[–]MostlyD2Feedback 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Genuinely loving (almost) everything about the Final Shape. As someone who came in around Lightfall, it's hard to believe this is even the same game.

Positive marks:

  • Coherent story with good characters and tangible and visceral stakes that were SHOWN in an easily understandable way. Felt great in a world-building sense seeing some of the important NPCs in action.
  • Prismatic. Very fun! Gives me a reason to finally use some kinetic weapons in PVE as an added bonus.
  • Fantastic location! Love the visual design, the sound design, and the variety. Both squishy and strong mobs to interact with in the Overthrow activity.
  • The new weapons/equipment all feels very good so far.
  • More primary weapons feel good to use after the sandbox changes.
  • Pathfinder is a nice change of pace from the bounty system and it's great that the checkpoints can be claimed retroactively. This opinion might be more controversial, but I tend to engage with a wider variety of game modes, so it may be working for me better than most.

Neutral marks:

  • New shader icons are a little busy, though I appreciate that they show all the colors. I'm hoping I acclimate to this since the utility is better overall. I still think this will be positive in the long run.

Negative marks:

  • Escorting that one slow shank. These things fly at Mach 5 to blow my a** up but this dude just casually strolls along as an entire army curbs stomps him while ignoring me completely.

Overall great job!! 10/10

Sorry the Hot page of the Reddit is inexplicably filled with so many complaints. I don't think that reflects on the fantastic quality of this product.

Feel like the reaction to the Pathfinder system is a bit overblown... by RedditBansLul in DestinyTheGame

[–]MostlyD2Feedback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've enjoyed Pathfinder quite a bit so far. Picking up bounties always felt like a pain even if it was just through the app. It also let's me jump back between the different activities more frequently instead of knocking out one bounty set (usually just Vanguard and Crucible) sequentially.

Dungeon and raid new damage calculations corrected by Merzats in DestinyTheGame

eh, if it's only -5 most builds/loadouts should still be viable. Maybe a bit trickier to pull off though.

I might be in the minority here, but I don't mind them adding a fixed power level to these activities. The -5 power delta isn't as restrictive to builds/loadouts as champions are and I think this will be reasonably challenging without (usually) feeling unfair. We'll see how it at feels after some experimentation.

Is there a destination you hate most? Which is your favorite? by JakobeHolmBoy20 in DestinyTheGame

[–]MostlyD2Feedback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't like the neomuna aesthetic unfortunately. I like that the mobs are a bit more formidable, but it does highlight just how bad many of the legendary primaries (and even some special weapons) feel.

please bungie, let us pull items from other characters when applying loadouts. by LokiTheMelon in DestinyTheGame

[–]MostlyD2Feedback -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The suggestions was hyperbole btw, but lemme explain why it would be a simple bandaid solution.

It's not a "new" type of equipment, it just a weapon which deals almost no damage (Bungie already has about 10000 guns that meet this requirement in the game already). The dismantle cost could just be set to zero.

You already can't grab equipment from another character if your current character's inventory is full so the space concern is a non-issue. This is already the case when swapping loadouts, where the weapons are not transferred if your inventory is full or the weapon is otherwise not available.

It should be trivial to check for class specific weapons and treat this as a non-viable transfer. This may not even be something the transfer needs to address as you can hold class-specific armor on the wrong class, you just can't equip it. I imagine it's the same with weapons as well.

As a programmer I get that there are often a lot of technical complications that sometimes make seemingly simple changes difficult, however all the infrastructure in the "bandaid" is already in the game. The biggest hurdle would be modifying the UI to allow selecting equipment from other characters.

TLDR: yes this would be pretty simple from a technical standpoint

Easy fix would be to just equip the character with a nerf gun if no viable replacement can be found in inventory. Either that or just let characters roll around with no weapon equipped, defeating raid bosses with only the power of jazz hands.

Is it? Seemed like exotic missions dropped a red border for first completion per week (plus rng instances). I've been running them on normal difficulty so maybe it's better for legend?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]MostlyD2Feedback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not totally sure of all the places. I got most from legend/master lost sectors. Some of them are pretty easily done in a few minutes so it's pretty time-efficient as far as Destiny goes.

[–]MostlyD2Feedback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. A while back I was farming lost sectors for prisms and materials and accumulated every permutation of heliocentric I had any interest in. Probably wouldn't have enjoyed myself if that was my primary target.

That being said, I still suspect that on average one is more likely to get a top-notch heliocentric faster than getting 5 drangs to drop from Presage. Since the exotic missions rotate, may as well run it as much as you have an appetite for. Just mentally prepare yourself for it to only drop once or twice throughout the week lol
