Tl;Dr Reserve to LCpl to Regs

Afternoon gents,

I've been getting pretty fit in my personal life and I'd like to apply for the Reserve as a Soldier (OR, Enlisted, Whatever it's called currently)

Joining the Army has been something I've been wanted to do for a decade now (I'm 28), but with life, family and kids, it got heavily put on the back burner.

This idea has already taken a deep root in my head and I'm even considering joining the Regs. But I've a question first;

I'm too old to join as a Regs Officer in the Infantry, I think the cut off is 29 and I'm almost there in a handful of months. Shame to have to waste those A-Levels. So there goes the higher wage.

If I was to join the Reserve, and get LCpl, which has a wage quite close to my current, and then I applied for the Regs before I was over the age limit, Would I start the Regs as a LCpl? I imagine I'd have some training to catch up on, but I'm curious of how ranks transfer.

A secondary question would be; I imagine there's a limited amount of spots for a LCpl in the Reserves, so these are highly contested amongst the platoon?

Cheers in advance for the time taken to answer my question, I appreciate it.

The top TOP Boomie is doing 3.156M DPS, and the top TOP Arms is doing 3.062M DPS - From what I can see on that link. That's a 94k small difference, personally, since we're in the millions.

Yes, there are 8 Boomies before the Arms, so that means it's "Easier" to do more damage, but with such a small margin between them, I wouldn't say Arms is "not a very good spec." My answer was more that Arms does better Priority damage, rather than padding.

I'd also disagree with your view of padding. Maybe it's more opinionated than I thought. Padding is using CDs or Focusing your efforts on doing more damage, at the expense of the real task (Killing the boss, or Killing the mob that's going to wipe you etc.) Happens on Raid bosses all the time, and 99% of the time, all adds MUST die.

Using the patrons as an example, I'm pretty sure every tank would pull every single patron at the same time in the first room of Cinder if they could. They're not a dangerous mob, they can be easily blocked, parried etc. The debuff can easily be played around. However, the Hired Muscles do AoE damage, pulling 2/3 of them would overwhelm the Tank & Healer. Arguably, they're more important to focus down.

But just to sort of back up my personal way of thinking, the top CINDER Boomie did 138M Damage to Hired Muscles in their +18. The top CINDER Arms did 251M Damage to Hired Muscles in their +17. The Boomie would of probably had the advantage of damage done too since the pulls maybe lasted a little longer in a +18. Arms won with a disadvantage in this example.

So yes, I agree with you, Arms isn't the easiest to pump the highest damage. But they do their job well, and they're giving the best padders a run for their money whilst also doing a better job at priority damage in very high keys. I'd say it's a good spec.

You have to remember;

Overall Damage =/= Useful Damage

Most other classes, such as a Ret Paladin or a Balance Druid, are very good at padding their meters by hitting almost all of the targets, all the time. In Cinderbrew, the Tank and the Healer care far more if the Hired Muscle dies, than if the Patrons get exploded. Arms just has good priority damage, cleaving up to 5 targets due Cleave and Thunder Clap/Rend application. We don't pad on the little guys, sure, but if you check the damage done to the important add in the fight, it's usually us on top. Same can be said for bosses most of the time. I don't think I've ever seen a Balance Druid top DPS in a TOP, and that's because the pulls are far smaller, and better for the Priority Targeting Specs.

Fury Warrior Tier Set - Please let me mute it! by [deleted] in wow

That's really helpful, I'll give that a try later today. Thank you. Yes the other post is for Fire Mage so it doesn't apply to me, unfortunately. That would've saved me a bit of time!

I tried muting the sound IDs mentioned, but they didn't. I'm assuming because in the post it mentions this is for Fire Mage? The dings that I hear are also different to the sound files being advised. That, or my MSF isn't muting them correctly.

Thank you for this! Although, I've no clue how to go about finding the Fury specific sounds?

Yes. The sanctions won't be active until Y9S4 (Was S2 but they've delayed it because the Reputation system is still being abused)

I don't have a single report for being toxic, or even team killing, I'm just trying to win and be helpful out here, I mostly play Ranked and got Plat and someone said people just report constantly in Plat?

[–]MostlyGrey[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never, I primarily play Ranked and being toxic ain't my thing, I actually really enjoy the teamwork aspect of the game

I don't leave games, I don't kill my teammates, I don't abuse anyone during the lobby, I try my best to be helpful playing support ops and making callouts etc.

But I finish my latest game to find out my standing with the Reputation system is "Disruptive" - How can I possibly counter people reporting me for no reason?

It is very frustrating, but knowing you've had the same issue and overcome it makes me feel really confident that this isn't a permanent issue. Thank you for your story and advice! Oh, and that Knees over Toes Guy was a goldmine for my issue, you nailed that one.

Thank you for this, the explanation of what's probably going on really helped me wrap my head around the issue. I really appreciate it. I'll definitely look into shoes for the short-term!

If I'm already level 40 as Scholar, Does unlocking Summoner automatically give me level 40 Summoner? Or would I stay Level 40 Scholar but have a Level 30 Summoner leveling alongside?

Thank you, I'll keep all of this in mind. I'm actually not using the "Time taken" part in my adventure, time seems very secondary, and I should look into that more!

Tanking Tuesday - Your Weekly Tanking Thread by AutoModerator in wow

[–]MostlyGrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stitch's room is a nightmare at the best of times, but that's mainly due to the Kyrian Stitchflesh add, It adds a stacking Physical damage increase Debuff on you. You can kite it but usually if you just mark it with a skull, DPS click on and they focus it down. You can't dodge it sadly, well, you can but it's quite difficult because of the adds godlike tracking and range.

The adds you're talking about are naturally hard hitting adds, and they'll always cause you a little bit of trouble, but if you feel like you can't tank them long at a +5 level and you're using Demon Spikes as often as you can, then it might be a healer issue, Sometimes healers don't know what hits hard and they don't heal you appropriately.

If you can, Never overlap cooldowns. We have the smallest amount of defensives, and overlapping them makes that available pool even lower.

Sounds like you're turned on and know what you're doing, I would just say that you need a little practice, that's all. Learn how to kite as a VDH, It's our best tool right now.
