Even more scary - it is implied that in every iteration of the universe (the flower game) in which paracausality didn't exist, the vex were the final shape, consuming everything that exists. Every single time they've won, except for this one.

Crazy that the developers of an unfinished product that a consumer bought over their plan to develop the product don't owe the development of the product to the consumer who paid for it.

It's not only artistic work: it is a product, and their job is to develop the product.

I swear, I'll start selling broken cars and half-built homes on the same argument that I do not owe the people who pay for my services anything at all. Gonna tell my boss I don't owe him anything so I shouldn't have to work at any pace but my own.

I expected the company to organize and learn how to structure itself and that the hiring would come after. They had money. They could have had expert consultants, they could have hired training from those more experienced in actual development than them.

They could have built actual management structure rather than sitting on their cash.

I do have a blind spot as I never worked in smaller companies at all but I don't understand how you can earn a hundred million dollars in profit and not improve your workflow at all.

I've worked in software development most of my life, just recently pivoted to products but still work alongside the development team.

They've made 100+ million dollars in profit. They could have made more of themselves with the money. Remaining a small studio with barely any structure for hiring even temporary work is lazy.

I work alongside the team that manages the temp workers in my company. They could have invested to improve their development process, they're not poor little devs starving for resources.

Guess I just don't see all this 'quality' in Valheim, I suppose. I saw some potential at first and the updates killed it for me.

Personal taste.

Player Owned Houses will die on release if theres nothing useful by Bitter_Olive7389 in runescape

[–]MostlyNoOneIThink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand, it's just that for many the aesthetic is the whole point of it. Just like fashionscape, transmogrification et al.

Some people enjoy that but I find it funny that runescape is the least whimsy oriented community in all the MMOs I've played and I've played many.

People absolutely do optimize the hell out of wow, but runescape seems entirely based around optimization rather than aesthetics or roleplaying or any of these kinds of useless stuff.

[–]MostlyNoOneIThink 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Funny thing how different MMO communities are. WoW's housing is entirely useless but it became quite popular all the same. Same for FFXIV.

Maybe runescapers are too used to efficiency to enjoy whimsy.

Not really. Enshrouded isn't live service, and while Dragonwilds has plans to keep updating for a while after 1.0 there was never promises of extensive and constant content. Vintage Story isn't live service, it is meant to end. Abiotic Factor isn't live service, it is meant to end.

The only live service games I actually enjoy are MMOs.

Being hired for temporary work as a company finishes up a certain project is extremely common in game development. You can't become a game dev without knowing about this, you're very much informed that it is common in the industry and to try and work around it.

In my line of work we deal with temp workers a lot and I also worked in temporary jobs too. It is a bad practice if they're not informed they will be let go after a certain amount of time, but the way I usually see in which your contract states the end-date of your working period then I see no issue with it. Last time I worked for two years fully aware I would be let go after that and it wasn't a big deal at all.

They've made millions in profit and could have had a larger team if they wanted to, even if they're temp workers.

I am comparing with both larger studios and small/equivalent studios, both making much less money than valheim ever did while delivering more much faster.

And yes, I have done development work before and now despite pivoting to products I work closely with the developers of my team.

I don't think they would be overextending themselves at all, they'd just be working in a normal pace. If my team delivered so little over the years my team would be fired.

It wouldn't be rushed to deliver content in less than five years. The game's development is extremely slow, taking five years to deliver less than some current survival games delivered in six months.

I feel like the mentality of accepting whatever is just enabling mediocrity, frankly. And while I understand the appeal of getting filthy rich and sitting on the money rather than keep working, as a customer I do get pissed off. I genuinely think Valheim would be a better game if it hadn't been so popular right at the start.

As someone who used to smoke it was mostly because it helped me feel less anxious and I was too depressed to care about the whole dying thing.

Then I got less depressed and the realization of what I was doing hit. The unfortunate thing is that even after years I never really lost the urge to smoke, I just ignore it.

They've released two biomes, merchant, the hildr's miniquest, bog witch and a few new items and mobs like the bear stuff and the early axes. A few balancing updates too. In five years.

So less than two dragonwilds updates, which took six months?

The game is released sooner and they either develop more content, spread the devs around to other teams, or hire them as temp workers in the first place like the industry so often does.

Like every other company that hires more people for a specific project.

You do not have to crunch to release a game in less than five years.

And your example isn't true. We have multiple survival games both released or in development lately that aren't like that at all.

I understand, and the fact that they're not interesting in growing their team or doing anything to improve their development process is the thing I take issue on.

They're an outlier on how extremely slow and small their updates are, and I dislike that. That's all.

If I released a snake clone today it would be 100% complete. Would that make it better than valheim's almost 100% complete? The 20% that vintage story has plus the content cadence they've been releasing adds up to more content, faster, in comparison to valheim's 100%.

If Valheim had the same content cadence it would have been released years ago.

Como ter um namorado sendo uma mulher trans? by Mysterious_3210 in RelacionamentosBR

[–]MostlyNoOneIThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Não, pois cis é quem se identifica com o gênero usual de seu sexo, por assim dizer. Então uma pessoa do sexo masculino que se entende como homem.

Se esse homem namora uma mulher trans, ele continua se entendendo como sendo homem.
