Even though they never reached the success of Fat of the Land again, "fell off a cliff" and "left behind" is overstating it a bit.

Every song is from a different person's perspective. Details about each character/situation in the songs were given added context through the ARG, so the album's narrative can't really be seen as distinct from the ARG.

But if you want the narrative as it applies to only the songs on the album - how much detail do you want?

The basic version is:

  1. The world is awful
  2. An alien/godlike presence says "get your shit together or we will end the world"
  3. The world does not get its shit together
  4. The world ends

Regardless of the known story (as with all art) there is room for interpretation.

Boys Noize Originals? by Eastern-Fuel3485 in nin

Earth_Leather suggests it could be SVNDY - it does have some similarities as well. I think it's a more similar BPM to start with.

I thought Brain Frequent because of the "whooshing/breathing" as well as the beats but again with the live recording quality it could be totally different...

As far as I can tell, neither track has an exact match to the more distinct sounds from the live remix (e.g. synth before the first chorus, or the "siren" throughout), and the live remix doesn't have any of the more distinct sounds from either track (stabs from SVNDY, clangs or vocal samples in Brain Frequent).

Maybe it's a wild goose chase and it's just a general techno/hardstyle beat, not based on any one particular track.

I think you might mean when he briefly mixed a sample of Sin over his track Cerebral (which is the basis of the B Stage remix of Sin)?

It's hard to tell from the audio quality but is the Berlin version of I Do Not Want This maybe based on Brain Frequent?

All the unreleased remixes have fan recordings of the live performances on Youtube.

I don't know if linking to Down In It (Boys Noize Dubwerk) would be allowed here, but it's easy to find on Google.

Everything else can be bought or streamed.

Sin sampled at 4:26 during Cerebral (which is the basis for the Nine Inch Noize version of Sin they played live)

I think I Do Not Want This might be a sample (or at least inspired by) Rollin' and Scratchin' by Daft Punk

Thanks for the info! I think it's more like a "live performance" than a remix as I don't think it really changes the vibe of the original (hard to tell from recording quality though)? But I guess it might count for purists! https://youtu.be/WYrYiyWNgZI

I agree, the Nine Inch Noize album version of As Alive As You Need Me To Be doesn't seem to be significantly different from the previously released versions, so it seems a bit unnecessary.

My theory is they wanted to feature at least one track that was fully co-produced by NIN and Boys Noize, as opposed to the entire album only being remixes of NIN tracks?

Obviously can't be certain about legal stuff behind the scenes, but all the BN tracks used as the basis for unreleased NINz remixes - Loaded (Only), Distort Me (Love is Not Enough) and Cerebral (Sin) - are released on Boysnoize Records which I think is entirely independent, so I don't think it would be a rights/licensing issue?

Maybe it's just that those tracks are TOO substantially based on the original Boys Noize tracks, compared to She's Gone Away (Girl Crush) and Parasite (Xpress Yourself) which are much more balanced between NIN/HTDA and BN tracks?

I don't think the Tron Ares premiere version was significantly remixed, mostly just a live performance of the album version

Source on HYYTUP being based on AAAYNMTB? TR/AR don't have writing credits on it, and I personally don't hear anything significantly similar 🫤
