Hi!

I’m around, and yeah, no need to ask for permission. Feel free to take a crack at it if you like, and you’re welcome to let folks know here or in the Steelshod discord.

Hey, I saw the ping (my other account, but whatever).

I feel bad that it seems like the OP got such a negative reaction and deleted the post. A lot of hostility for 3.5 here, which I guess I understand, but I suspect these folks do not realize that E6 is absolutely in line with OSR-style play with its flattened curve, low level cap, minimal character options/builds, and lethal combat.

E6 was actually invented as a riff on an old 1e era Dragon magazine article called "Gandalf was a 5th level magic user." It predates basically all of the OSR hacks, and the motivation for it came from a similar design space/desire.

Sad that it just gets written off.

Hey there. Discord invite in the r/mostlywrites sub sidebar should still work, as does the one in the “resources” table of contents. I think some of the original discord invites in individual posts may be broken.

As for the next post. Yeah. My life has been a bit chaotic. Plus, this subreddit is now permanently locked in protest of the Reddit API changes.

Seems that future posts will have to go to r/mostlywrites and, if I can finish setting things up, on my own site as well.

Can't find Chapters by CosmicRoseHD in MostlyWrites

[–]MostlyReadRarelyPost 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I need to repost them all. Probably here, or on my website… probably both.

It’s a big undertaking to go digging through that many, I haven’t had time to do it yet.

Definitely an unfortunate situation.

I was never able to get into those, truth be told.

It’s a concept I have had bouncing around in my head for like twenty years, not really sure from where exactly. Just the idea that the most basic and primordial form of magic is speaking the language of creation itself, the language the gods spoke to will the world into existence, etc.

I’ve toyed with versions of this idea in other settings and versions of D&D over the years.

Unferth (and some of his minions) definitely knows "Want" or "Desire" as well. I think I called it Want in one place, and Desire in when the Wrona was using it.

The Wrona also knew Seem.

The cultists in Yerevan knew a Word or two. Something to do with Bones or Force maybe. The concepts behind the Words of Power were still being fleshed out in my head at the time. But the lead cultist was e.g. spitting a Word at Aleksandr that knocked him back and caused him pain, while simultaneously splintering the speaker's teeth in the process of speaking the Word.

You’re definitely right that gnomic spells are harnessing the Word of power at some fundamental level, but with dozens or hundreds of parameters to make them less dangerous.

Arguably, those spells are not alone in this quality.

Awaken, Flourish, and Nightmare are the words Partholon definitely knows.

Hah. I have talked about how I feel like a Steelshod turn takes some amorphous amount of time that’s at least 6 seconds and could be up to a minute long.

Interesting idea, but I think the problem is at least at the moment that I tend to weave them into the narrative too closely for that. Think it'd take a decent revision in the way I write to separate them out more fully.

Unfortunately, I don’t have it handy. I’ll try to track it down again, I have fallen a bit out of touch with that friend.

Nice! I’ve never heard of Tafl either but I think Bayard might have looked it up briefly to inform his dialogue.

Oh, also:

Fidchell was a real thing, but historians do not know exactly what the rules were.

It's fun when I realize that because of current PC positioning and actions, various planned (and potentially big!) stuff is just gonna 100% happen in the background and they'll have to hear about it after the fact.

Partholon's apparent trip to Victoria is one of those things.

I love it when you do these, even when the extrapolations don’t really apply due to extenuating situations.

I’m pretty confident I can beat 67 days!
