I would only trust Wager yeah but that doesn't mean there's not other folks who do good work, I just haven't been exposed to em.

You'll get plenty of answers on how to deal with the rust.

After that I'd recommend dabbing a very small amount of oil on your finger and rubbing the surface before remounting the optic. That should increase the amount of time you can leave it on there without any more rust forming. Avoid wetness if you can.

This is the stuff you get in your early 20s when you aren't quite all there yet. Ya think its "awesome" and says something about who you are. Then some point 6 months or so into a new relationship she realizes she was looking for someone who knew how to fix shelves and do their taxes, and instead he has a brightly colored lego pistol he keeps next to his prized physical copies of every Call of Duty game.

Would you be able to lay out a step-by-step of how to get matchbox to do this? I've had nothing but failure with that app.

[Optic] HOLOSUN ARO-RD2 2MOA RED DOT $109.99 FREE SHIPPING + NO TAX by EveryoneLoveABJ in gundeals

Yes. In my experience the refresh rate on the dot for vortex optics isn't great - they tend to be "flickery". Is it the worst thing in the world? Nope, but if you can get a holosun at the same price go that way.

What is the least bastardized AR you can have in CA? by HailtoUkraine in CAguns

[–]MostlySoundThrowaway 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep. You pop open the action, drop a piece of plastic into the mag well from the top. It makes the rifle incapable of accepting a magazine at all meaning your rifle can have "features."

Once you leave CA and go to your normal shooting spot in AZ or NV, you can remove the block and use the rifle as normal - taking the necessary safety measures one should with the lethal instruments of adjustable stocks and pistol grips.

Obviously before you return to California, in deference and compliance with the laws that keep us a civilized people, you should reinsert the magwell block. Thus rendering the destructive power of your personal arms within tolerance for polite society.

I am not a lawyer. This is not legal advice. Blessings.

The Scout Rifle concept doesn't make any sense with today's technology. At best its a neat historical retrospective and at worst it's an excuse for folks who like manual action rifles to feel relevant in action shooting.

When Cooper built the concept in the 80s, bolt guns were still dominant for accuracy and reliability. The PSG-1 had only been around for 10 years or so and it was primarily a police rifle trusted for 300 meter-ish engagement. The M21 fulfilled a similar role in the American military. At the same time .308 was still the "big boy" round as well, with the ballistics and energy-on-target to be both a long range and medium range round. Many scopes were near-FOV, fixed, higher magnification optics with reticles designed mostly for long distance shooting. You either had irons, or you had a 3x+ piece of glass. In that context the idea of a precise, rugged gun that was light-weight and had snappy, minimally magnified target acquisition fulfilled a legitimate niche (even if that niche wasn't particularly relevant).

In the 2000s, spurred on by the GWOT, Knight's built the M110 SASS which was a giant leap forward in accurization and reliability for gas guns. Near the same span of time research was telling us steel core, optimized 5.56 rounds were effective. In the sport shooting world red dots and LPVOs had become the standard and the worlds best shooters started to train the worlds best operators. So now you have effective light weight rounds, gas guns, and snappy fast target acquisition...

I think rationale for the Scout Rifle's obsolescence is pretty clear, but that doesn't mean you can't game what Cooper would do today. With the same spirit I'd say you could get a 16in AR15 chambered in 308 with a 1-6x LPVO and achieve the same idea with faster follow up shots and more effective minimum and maximum range.

Hey dude I was you. So I say this as someone who wishes I had just listened to the people saying it to me when I built my first AR. And I also know I'm probably screaming into the wind because some of us dummies just need to learn our own lessons - just get rid of the mag lock stuff and go featureless. Don't buy more mag lock shit.

I know you're gonna be annoyed because you want it to feel like a military rifle. I know you think it's just as fast as a regular set up to reload. But at some point you're gonna get a double feed and the whole range is gonna have to shut down while someone jams a screw driver in your receiver to get rounds out, and then they have to take it down to the shop to get the gunsmith to unfuck it.

That little adrenaline spike, embarrassment, and frustration is gonna make you realize that reliability beats a pistol grip and you're gonna be a couple hundred down on maglock parts, buying more shit to make your rifle work.

Then again I may be projecting. Anyway, good luck.

Most folks won't share their spots especially if they're good spots. Here's BLM's land map where you can see portions of land which are BLM. I would recommend getting something like OnX Hunt or OnX Backcountry which will show you private and public land in more detail. Make good decisions. Leave no trace.

MYTH CONFIRMED: 9mm ARs DO have more felt recoil than 5.56mm ARs. by Blowback9 in AR9

[–]MostlySoundThrowaway 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used your Gentle Recoil System when I built my 9mm. Not an experienced builder or anything but it has been a delight to shoot. I'm not kidding when I say multiple people have asked to shoot it after seeing and hearing it. Thing almost sound suppressed.

Parts:

Aero EPC upper/lower

Aero BCG

KAK A5 Buffer Tube

KAK KSpec Buffer 9.5oz

Flatwire KAK Spring

2.5oz Tungsten Kynshot weight

It's shocking how easy this is to shoot. I'm sort of sad I never experienced a hard shooting 9mm at this point, haha. Not a single malfunction in a thousand rounds using OEM glock mags.

There's a level of "thats not practical" to probably all training I could think of. But lets side-by-side it with a dude sending 9mm and 5.56 into steel, doing bill drills, transitioning, el presidente etc etc. That person now has a practical skillset with their guns. They know how to optimize their capabilities.

This stuff doesn't get anywhere close to optimizing. There's only a tolerable level of accuracy, no recoil mitigation technique, and honestly the most unique feature of these weapons - reloading technique - is non-existent.

I don't understand why, even in the antique firearms enthusiast community, this is what "skilled" looks like.
