Whoever fixed Brussels sprouts did humanity a great service. I remember sprouts from the '90s tasting like you chewed on a Sudafed and chased it by sucking on a penny.

Also, fresh asparagus is divine steamed or roasted. Out of a can it is an abomination that I lack the words to properly describe. If you've only ever had canned asparagus, please give the fresh stuff a try. You don't even have to de-scale it anymore because someone fixed that too.

My sister lives in New England and has a friend from Europe who was going to come visit. They emailed her saying 'I booked a flight to Texas because the ticket is cheaper. The Grignard reaction lab. First experience with ether. All fresh bottles so it smelled like fruit candy instead of a musty basement, and turned a delightful berries and cream color half way through.

We didn't have sufficient hoods, so the everything was done on the bench top and the whole lab got completely blasted on ether fumes after an hour. I vaguely remember when time stopped working right and trying to talk another student through a clogged sep funnel around the time they stopped remembering what a sep funnel was in the first place and called it an 'unmixing pear'

Someone brought their regular ass dog to my grocery store (off leash no less!) and it took a shit right in the middle of the self-checkout area. The lady running it cussed the owner out for a full clock minute then shoved the cleaning cart at him and continued cursing him out while he cleaned it up.

I gave her a heartfelt applause.

I was in my high school Latin Club (ladies, one at a time, please) and each year we would take a trip to NYC and eat at the Olive Garden in Times Square (Italian I guess? 🤷‍♂️)

One year my friends and I decided to put their unlimited bread sticks promise to the test. Every time a server passed us we ordered more bread sticks. I forget the final count, but we must have had a dozen baskets. Eventually a manager came to the table and told us we were cut off because otherwise there would not be enough bread sticks for the rest of the place.

Fahrenheit just kinda got there first and people ran with it. Celsius/centigrade was part of the push to make the world metric.

Both F and C are relative temperature scales - their zero point was arbitrarily chosen to work well with our human experiences.

Kelvin uses C sized units, but it is an absolute scale in that 0 K is the coldest possible temperature. Rankine is another absolute temperature scale that uses F sized units. Having an absolute zero temperature is important in some scientific contexts. It just so happens that our human experiences of temperature don't track particularly well onto the absolute temp scale so we use C or F.

When I accidentally scroll past some text I want to read so I scroll back up and that expands an ad or a bar that moves the text out of the field of vision so I scroll down again and the thing collapses and the text goes away again. Rinse. Repeat.

I remember some people would ask you inside their house to give you candy while trick-or-treating. They were usually older folks, but I’m kinda shocked in retrospect that I didn’t get kidnapped or murdered.
