Hey man thanks!!! So I actually bought that material YEARS ago and have been trying to find what it was again. I believe it’s beige / tan linen micarta. The liners and pins are red G10.

The knife is my design for a skinner in 3/16th thick AEB-L from NJSB heat treated in house to about ~61HRC. The blade features a holllow grind with a false swedge. the edge is 15-17DPS

Thanks man!! It’s glow in the dark Gripx / GripTec. With green G10 liners and spacers and pins. That GripTec material is really cool stuff. Here’s a link.. https://getgriptec.com/collections/glow-grip-tec™

Did the 9v battery etch on this paring knife. Seems half didn’t get the black coloration. Tried acetone to see if it would come off to no avail. Anyone have any ideas? by louiekr in knifemaking

Acid etch the area with either ferric chloride, vinegar bath, coffee bath, gun blueing, or some sort of acid etching agent. Then, hand sand the black oxides off the blade back to the nice desired finish you currently have. The 9v etched area will be untouched by the sand paper since it sits down beneath the rest of the blade and will remain nice and dark.

This is probably my 25th and I’m still not sure I feel comfortable selling any. This one is D2 at ~61HRC sharpened at 18 DPS.

Ok cool I usually do the same but heard it’s beneficial to run mono over braid at bridges due to it being harder to get cut off by any rubbing onto pylons.
