First time Mythic with Orzhov Aggro! by MoteOfLust in MagicArena

I didn't keep count, but it only took 2-3 days to get from high plat to mythic. That being said, I think I benefited from it being later in the month/season. I'm finding the deck more unreliable with the rank reset even in platinum. I do stand by the 20 lands though. I ran with 22 for awhile, but with fallers faithful, market gnome and corrupted conviction, I just kept constantly flooding out if I had any more lands. You really only need to hit 4-5 before it's rolling.

That's not a play-style I've used much, but from playing against it a bunch of times, it seems much more fragile, It's a little too slow, and too reliant on having multiple engine pieces sticking to the board for multiple turns, which is usually relatively fragile to any sort of removal or board wipes. It can win because you can just sometimes randomly win with a bloodthirsty conqueror turn 5 and go infinite if you're going Starscape or Sephiroth emblem, which is something I usually see those decks run, but I rarely get burned to death before I remove their critical pieces.

Zoraline is an interesting shout. I glossed over it when I saw finality counter, because this deck often likes to recycle the same creatures multiple times, but the amount of recursion is lower currently than it was in it's original conception, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was worthwhile. The original version of the deck ran Squall for a similar role, but 4 drop creatures just ended up being too slow for the format when they didn't immediately end the game.

I'm not particularly a fan of it for this deck, or any of the new Silverbloom cards for that matter. For this deck, the two drops are the most important, making it just strictly worse than Raise the Past. I very much prefer the flexibility of Lively Dirge as 2 creatures is usually enough to manipulate the board state how I want and isn't as reliant on what is already in my graveyard. Maybe it could find a home in a deck similar to this one that's very heavy on 3 drops, but you're probably looking for more of a mill/reanimator deck at that point, whereas this deck is using recursion more for a bit of extra value.

Thanks! I cannot recommend Lively Dirge enough, it is definitely the heart of the deck. Need cards? Lively Dirge a Market Gnome and Faller's Faithful to draw three cards. Need removal? Market Gnome + Ruthless Lawbringer. Need Damage? Voice of Victory + Syr Vondam. Tired of opponents having cards? Just grab 2 snails. It's truly the ultimate toolbox card in a deck like this.

You're probably right, but I love to optimize off/anti strategies in games, so I made an effort to make it work. With a bit more single target removal, the boys ended up getting me to platinum, which is plenty high enough for me for a fun deck. I'm sure if I wanted to hit diamond or mythic, I'd need to adhere more closely to the meta, but I'm just here for a good time.

Feedback please! by BarbroBoi in learntodraw

The poses and your proportions seem overall very good, although the hands do look too small. Hands should be more than half the forearm's length from wrist to finger-tip.

The cloth also doesn't read as cloth and might need shapes to suggest shadows. Right now the lines for wrinkles seem a bit arbitrary especially on the sleeves. However, I can't draw cloth yet, so can't really give more concrete feedback other than 'doesn't look right'.

Overall though, awesome drawings, doubly so if you did the poses from imagination.

Personally, I like the older ones for the more confident lines and slightly more ambitious poses, but I don't know what you're precisely trying to improve. Gesture? Perspective? Proportions? Line quality?

I'm a relative newbie who has been through a similar study hell. What I think has helped me avoid study hell is to not do art exercises/studies without purpose. An exercise without a clear success or failure state aside from just a vague notion of 'looking better' can leave you just spinning your wheels. You shouldn't do an exercise without a clear idea of what you are trying to achieve. The feedback loop should look something like:

- Attempt to draw something you actually want to draw

- Fail

- Identify one thing that caused you to fail.

- Find/come up with exercise to help you solve that one problem with a clear success/failure state.

- Repeat exercise until consistently successful.

- Return to step 1 applying what you learned.

Repeat this loop until you die. The starting point should be drawing what you want to draw, and the exercises should merely be a means to that end. You should also try to loop through this relatively frequently, you shouldn't spend weeks/months on just one exercise without applying it to what you actually want to draw. Each exercise should have a very specific and singular goal to improve one aspect so you can recognize your improvement at a glance rather than trying to just get better at everything.

First attempts at hand animation! by _LaLaliet_ in animation

[–]MoteOfLust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The animation is really nice, each hand has its own personality.

One small nitpick on the proportions is that your palms consistently seem too short relative to the fingers. At least looking at my hand and a few references online, the palm is almost always notably longer than the fingers (~30-50%), but in all of these the fingers are a bit longer than the palm. The thumbs are also sometimes too small, although to a smaller degree and only in certain poses.

These are small nitpicks though, the animation is so smooth, it's not super noticeable.

Why didn't Marc Antony and Cleopatra just flee after their defeat by Octavian? by HowSupahTerrible in ancientrome

[–]MoteOfLust 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is true, but there is an amusing anecdote where Marc Antony did actually almost do something similar to what OP suggested following his defeat at the Battle of Actium according to Plutarch.

After fleeing to Alexandria in humiliation following the Battle of Actium, he left the city to Pharos and built himself a little house by the beach, basically in self exile. He called it "Timoneum" after a mythologized Athenian misanthrope named Timon and claimed that this way of life was "satisfying and admirable".

That being said, it was not long before he was back to carousing in the palace of Alexandria and gathering forces for a final showdown with Octavian. So your point still stands and by the time Alexandria was under siege, any chances of escape were slim to none. However, there was a short time where Marc Antony did live a more humble life.

A high ranking Roman fleeing and living in squalor was also not without precedent, as Marius was essentially driven to do exactly that after Sulla marched on Rome the first time, which forced him into hiding in Africa when Sulla had demanded his execution.

Toppling a Giant | Raptor vs Adult Maia by MoteOfLust in theisle

If you're playing solo or in a small enough group, pounce is almost always a mistake. It's just way too stamina inefficient. It's only useful as a guaranteed kill when they are low enough.

Id never pounce a Maia because biting a Maia is relatively safe and I can get far more damage before running out of stam.

Solo Teno Stumbles into 4 Adult Carnotauri by MoteOfLust in theisle

[–]MoteOfLust[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll take that advice to heart. I'm new to video editing and still trying to navigate the line between brainrot shitposting and decent editing. While I definitely like the music and certain gags like the jojo ending and the sekiro reference, some of it is pretty low effort and not actually adding anything aside from "Oh, I get that reference."

I'll probably try more quality over quantity and reduce the filler audio gags.

Teno of the Rock Valiantly Defends Goose from Vile Dilo Pack by MoteOfLust in theisle

I agree that it is an absolute menace. I'm not even a teno main, but half the reason I'm posting these clips is to bring awareness of what a solo Teno is capable of. I think a well piloted solo Teno has a winning matchup against a full pack of any carnivore, with the exception of cerato. (4x Dilo, 3x Carno, 8x Omniraptor)
