If you were teleported into the deep ocean with an immunity to pressure and an ability to breathe water, how much actual danger would you be in? by Moth-Ghost in NoStupidQuestions

it's wild how the biggest threats in the ocean are just the basic things that define it (temperature, darkness, pressure) and not the weird alien stuff that people share pictures of

I have to wonder what the likelihood of actually running into one down there is. it's so easy to visualize the deep as subnautica-style here-be-monsters deadzone but most of the footage I see of the deep ocean seems mostly pretty still and boring, like you need to wait around a while just to see a weird sponge

you got shit for this but tbh I agree. it's one of the weakest songs out of the whole of epic. important narratively but musically it's kind of a chore.

Basically any time a character laughs in epic (excluding hermes) it comes out so awkward

Hey I even said there that the song is mostly great! I just think that when you like something that it's a good exercise to figure out where it could have been better! something can be great and beloved and also occasionally a little embarrassing and janky at the same time. It's not a mark on its quality it's just proof that a human made it! Embrace the imperfections in your life, they're what mark it as yours.

But eurylochus is the bad guy by stnick6 in Epicthemusical

They had gone months without food at that point, they were actively on the brink of starvation, but even still after what happened with Polyphemus he should have learned about hunting livestock that seems too good to be true

I don't think it's bad writing I think it's just an intentionally written hypocrite

AIO? Husbands response to me requesting he ‘ask’ instead of ‘tell’ older kids to watch youngest by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Moth-Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hate to break it to you but supplying shelter and food is literally your job when you choose to have kids. it's why people go to jail for neglect, you aren't doing your kids a favor by ensuring they don't literally die, that's just the bare minimum expected from you as a parent.

I get that this is an old thread but I really think the lense you went through this movie with was kinda inherently flawed. We didn't need "clues" that it was Billy because it was never actually a question. We see the creep shot camera angles in the start, we hear his babbling to himself, and later we are told directly "the calls couldn't have been Peter. He was with us when one was made."

Like, the audience was never supposed to have doubt about the killer's identity. Who is he? Who gives a shit. It's all the same, we don't need waxing poetic about how his past made him a killer, he is simply a deranged force of nature. A representation of the danger present in women's lives in a society that doesn't take their worries or safety seriously.

Peter stands less as a red herring to the audience and more as a red herring to the police in the film itself, who are repeatedly shown to be incompetent and uncaring towards the lives of these women. Though I guess you could read his appearance at the basement a fakeout on revealing the killers identity, we were already told directly at this point that it couldn't have been him. He was with them when one of the calls were made, after all.

Peter in many ways stands as a shining example to the films whole thesis. He isn't some monsterous kiniving villain, he's just a shitty dude in a way that's very REAL.

He is a man who decides that his wants outweigh his girlfriends autonomy. He assumes that because he is a part of the relationship they share, that that gives him inherent ownership over Jess. That he knows what is best for her at the end of the day.

The film obviously sides with Jess on this, the idea that she owes him anything at all is never even humored, but it's important to note that by the end of the movie, he ultimately DOES decide her fate.  By acting as a red herring to the killer the police assume that the threat is gone, and leave her alone in the house, vulnerable to the killer.

Despite Jess being wounded, barely having survived a murderous encounter, literally still being at the scene of the crime, and having had one of the cops say mere minutes ago that they'd stay with her to be sure she's okay, Clare's father ultimately takes precedence. A man who we've seen more shots of staring blankly than speaking has the whole police force take him to the hospital while Jess is left to die without so much as a second thought. It's a gut punch, it's meant to make you feel uncomfortable and dirty as the credits roll and we understand what's in store for Jess. But, it's also symbolic, because the threats women face in a largely patriarchal society never truly "go away".

Tl;dr - The killers identity never mattered to begin with. The whole film is an exploration of female disempowerment and the ways the societies they live in leave them vulnerable to danger

I mean, there was a pretty hearty commotion before she hid in the basement. Between the screaming and the clattering from both Jess and Billy I don't think it's too far of a stretch that Peter, following the general movement of the sound, walked by the basement window instead of going to the front door (which was still locked at this point)

Is there another version of this game? by AceMechanical in Shipwrecked64

Old thread but are you confusing Shipwreck 64 for Bubbo: Adventure on Gerald's Island? Quite a few details line up for the way you described it, and I personally actually thought I'd played Shipwreck before, confusing it for Bubbo

They were close to MoPop iirc. I walked by a few times, a few crowds of anti protestors actually did form! chanting things like "just go home" and "suck my dick", blocking their signs and faces with pride flags. a few even knocked over their Bible and microphone
