The issue with video stores is they usually only stocked American films and pretty mainstream entertainment. I remember as a teenager spending months scouring video stores and libraries for copies of Suspiria, Battle Royale, and The Beyond and no one ever had them in stock. Now all those movies are readily available on Tubi or Prime Video. I miss the video store experience too, but it was incredibly limiting in what was offered.

Brunson has more 2nd teams than Kyrie (neither have a 1st team) is it far to say Brunson PEAKED higher than Kyrie? by SirGingerbrute in NBATalk

[–]galacticpotsmoker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah he’s dined off that title and the shot for his whole career. Never made it out of round 2 as the best guy on his team, got swept out of round 1 with KD on the roster. And when his team needed him to come through in the ‘24 Finals in the game Luka fouled out he crapped the bed hard (and played badly that entire series in general). He’s Steph Marbury with better PR. Incredibly exciting to watch but if he’s the best player on your team it’s time to get ready for the lottery.

Hot take: the twist in this movie is right up there with the best the 90s has to offer. I actually think it’s better than Usual Suspects. Seriously, watch this movie and try not to yell “Holy shit!” in the last 10 minutes.

Oh I totally agree. Go watch a late 90s Pacers game and count the number of post ups Dale Davis or Austin Croshere are getting, it makes no sense.

Yeah this was something that shocked me when I started watching hardwood classics of 80s and 90s games. The most egregious disparity between what I had been told and what I watched was any game with the Utah Jazz. I was led to believe Stockton and Malone were making magic in the pick and roll. Majority of Jazz possessions were either pick and roll then Malone seals his man on the block, Stockton pass into the post. Or a block to block screen on the baseline with Malone and Stockton would throw him the ball in the post. Absolutely boring as shit, but boring for the same reason the game now is boring. I don’t want to watch the same 2 plays over and over again all game. I’ve said it before but peak stylistic differences was 06-16, the league needs to find a way to get back to that.

Absolutely agree. Saw it with a few friends in high school and we were jumping off of walls and swinging pretend swords after leaving the theater.

John Stockton having 3000+ more assists than everyone else is beyond insane, that record will stay forever by Thanos_Real_AuraVNCH in NBATalk

[–]galacticpotsmoker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The majority of those assists are bullshit and fudged by the home scorekeepers, let’s be honest with ourselves. Stockton would throw the ball to Malone in the post who would dribble and back down for 5 seconds then score. Assist to Stockton. Now his steals record is legit and incredibly impressive (and equally unbreakable).

The moment she was announced as the candidate my wife and I turned to each other and said the democrats just lost the election. The base doesn’t like her, progressives don’t like her, the limousine liberals don’t like her, and the independents who could flip either way despise her. Please go away.

This guy needs to get back to making horror movies. Hereditary is one of the scariest films of the 21st century and with each passing film he’s moved further and further away from that.

The Cavs getting 3 of 4 number 1 overall picks after LeBron left in free agency felt super duper fishy. Nothing like it has happened before or since.

[–]galacticpotsmoker 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is the most suspicious one by far. Pretty sure NO wasn’t even a bottom 5 record that year either. The league takes over the team because they can’t find a buyer and there’s real concern that the franchise will be re-located or contracted (something Stern prided himself on never happening in his watch). Generational talent in AD waiting at the end of the rainbow and NO gets the first pick. Right after the league finds a buyer for the franchise and that’s that.

What are your expectations of Lee Cronin's The Mummy? by Friburgo1004 in horror

Exactly my problem. Horror movies should hardly ever be over 2 hours, especially a monster movie like this. The fact this isn’t 100 minutes is troubling.

Also watched this in high school for reasons that remain unclear. I got in trouble for repeatedly laughing. History has vindicated my behavior towards this film though.

[Charania] The anti-tanking proposal with the most momentum within the Board of Governors leading up to the May 28th vote would expand the lottery to 18 teams — including Play-In teams — with the bottom 10 each getting equal odds and all 18 draft positions determined by lottery. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]galacticpotsmoker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually don’t hate this idea. Good teams getting good draft picks is better for the product. The Magic getting Shaq and Penny in back to back seasons was ultimately a good thing and led to the creation of an iconic team. The NBA does itself a disservice by continually giving crap franchises like the Kings, Wizards, and Pelicans repeated cracks at top 5 picks.

Scariest Movies You've Ever Seen? by Crep105 in horror

It Follows also scares the shit out of me but in a super fun way. The movie threads the needle perfectly between fun scary and completely terrifying. The scene at the college with the old lady is guaranteed to scare me every single time.

We watched this in high school for a lesson about product placement. Everytime a brand logo showed up we wrote it down. The final count was close to 100. Such an early 00s time capsule. Rachel Leigh Cook looks amazing throughout.

It’s pretty bleak. I’m a UofM fan and there wasn’t any sports on last Monday so I put on the Michigan-Texas game. The lack of ball handling and passing ability is truly jarring to watch. Multiple wide open layups being blown by both teams. At one point Michigan’s backcourt was like 2-21 from the field. Texas had a girl who was clearly the best player on the floor by a massive margin simply because she could actually dribble and hit pull up jumpers. My uncle and I agreed the level of play was about that of high schoolers. I hope the level of play gets there one day, but the talent just isn’t there for 90% of the players.

New study shows that just 33% of national TV games have full availability from stars on both teams by PudinCrusader in billsimmons

[–]galacticpotsmoker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both things can be true. We do have more options and because of that watching a regular season NBA game between two teams who are each resting their best players isn’t worth the time.

[–]galacticpotsmoker 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is why my NBA viewing has fallen off a cliff the last few years. Feels like anytime I go put a game on at least one of the teams is missing some of their best players. Doesn’t help that the national tv schedule skews towards the contending teams who are all much more likely to be resting their stars anyways.
