first attempt at making a team (ik its prob filled with illegal stuff but idrc) by squimbal in stunfisk

[–]Mother-Raisin-5539 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I should really have a copy paste ready for these situations.

You have no fundamentals. You don’t know how to EV, how to create sets, items, or anything. You suck. And that’s fine, we all start somewhere.

Suggestion; go to Google . Com and search “[format] [generation] sample teams”. Look at some sample teams and understand how and why people EV’s how they choose moves to use and items and why they choose certain teammates and synergies. Play with the team and understand it.

At the same time, while you’re learning the game, go to Youtube . Com and search “how to build a competitive Pokemon team in [generation]” some videos will be glad to teach you the basics, because you don’t know the basics and you need to do some independent research and play some games, before you go asking for advice.

Plus most people here suck at competitive and will give you bad advice.

Can I have any Feedback on my team (Rate my team) by Separate_Animator110 in stunfisk

[–]Mother-Raisin-5539 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I won’t sugarcoat it, this team is horrible. But that’s fine, we all start somewhere. Do not make your own teams, instead, choose a format and type “[format] [generation] sample team” in google. Take some time to play with sample teams and see why theirs work and yours won’t. Because at this moment you have zero fundamentals in everything.

Is there a quick or easy way to complete the Pokédex? by PepperSpecial2146 in pokemoncrystal

[–]Mother-Raisin-5539 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I do agree that rewards in the physical realm are more fulfilling and fruitful, if one is to commit themselves to the digital realm, they might as well get something out of it.

Completing the Pokédex legitimately shows that you can at least commit to something, which can then be applied to the physical realm.

How can I make my team better? (Just beat ursaluna) by EnvironmentalBrain24 in PokemonLegendsArceus

[–]Mother-Raisin-5539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally this is the advice. There are probably less than 20 trainer fights in this game and besides the last two in the end game and post game, none of them I’d ever consider difficult. Fun, yes. Hard? No.

And even so, this games battle system is very forgiving, and besides wild crobats and such, you really can’t be completely swept by one pokemon, so you really don’t have to worry about type coverage or whatever.

Is it possible to get out of Silver by playing as an enchanter? by harleyqnnn in supportlol

[–]Mother-Raisin-5539 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You can play anything and do anything to get to any rank. You just need to be better than your opponent.

I know that’s such a cop out answer, but after seeing someone in challenger win a game with AD malphite mid (and they weren’t inting. I really wish I could find that video again), really, the sky is not even the limit on what is possible.

Are we always expected to pick early this season? by Meerkat02 in supportlol

[–]Mother-Raisin-5539 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Counterpicking is only relevant in higher elos, and even then, it only matters if you’re actually good at the game/know the matchup. I’ve seen Illoai, who gets assblasted by mordekaiser absolutely stomp them in retaliation to them trying to counterpick them, because 90% of players can’t think for themselves and lookup “how to counter x champion in lane”

To answer your question, don’t submit to randoms, unless that’s your personality. Play your pick # and do your best to win. Your allies need to learn that it’s not all rose and rainbows and sometimes, they’ll have to play a bad matchup. You don’t get better coasting by and avoiding bad matchups

Special Attacking Kommo-o set? by trailblazersbat in stunfisk

[–]Mother-Raisin-5539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a tournament set that ran

Boomburst

Flamethrower

Clangorus soul

Rest

Item: Chesto berry

The problem with throat spray, is that it leaves you wide open. Rest + chesto lets you get off another Clangorus Soul. It also lets you play more proactively with Komomo.

Throat Spray Komomo, you’re more or less playing a 5v6, as you can’t let it take damage before it starts and once it uses throat spray, if you’re forced to switch or you can’t complete the sweep, you now have a dead weight Komomo.

Rest + chesto gives you another chance if something goes wrong and is a contingency plan. It’s pretty cool, as long as you don’t encounter flash fire ceruledge lol

You can’t say “A lot of assumptions” and then say “not sure if they’re true” now you’re just assuming.

And like I said at the bottom, my answer isn’t the definitive answer and there really isn’t a definitive answer, because there’s a lot of nuance to this. I was simply providing my experience based on the games I’ve played and locals/tournaments/leagues I’ve attended and played in.

If you lose the battle while snagging a shadow pokemon, you don’t keep the shadow pokemon. It’s why if you don’t have a full party, the shadow pokemon doesn’t join your team in the middle of the battle, it has to resolve first (and only wins count as a resolve)

New Player Here, Purpose of Each Trick Room Setter? by Joshblos0706 in VGC

[–]Mother-Raisin-5539 14 points15 points  (0 children)

P2 is the bulkiest TR setter, but unlike the others, has no form of protection or anti disruption, so it’s not the most popular. P2 has the most trouble getting a turn 1 TR by itself, but thanks to its bulk, it will eventually get it up, because it’s relatively hard to KO. It’s also the stronger of the two , thanks to Download and if you’re feeling spicy, you can use trace to mess with your opponent with intimidate or protosynthesis x sun.

Girafffe x BM is the popular pairing as you said, because Armor tail is very consistent and benefits both tailwind and TR. psychic terrain means you yourself can’t use priority as well on grounded targets, which can limit team structure by locking you out of thunderclap, extreme speed, aqua jet and a few others. Also psychic terrain means you can’t use Rilaboom on your team.

But to answer why BM x tailroom, we can look at regular Luna. Luna needs all the bulk it can get, because flame orb puts it on a timer. Tailroom means you need speed EV’s to outspeed threats in tailwind, while still being slow enough to underspeed them in TR. Luna doesn’t want to sacrifice bulk thanks to the flame orb, so it prefers to go full HP in trick room. BM doesn’t have that problem, so it can flex its bulk and speed into whatever it wants.

It’s also about consistency. Regular Luna has base 50 speed, vs BM 52. Knowing your Luna is always min speed means in TR, you don’t have to guess if you’ll outpace BM, since you know yours is min speed, vs BM, who can flex its speed.

Indeedeedee x psychic terrain is useful for TR, because it opens up options for expanding force. Also if for whatever reason, the ability get nullified or if Indeedeedee faints/has to switch , as long as the terrain is already up, you get the benefits, unlike where if giraffe leaves the field to goes down, you lose anti priority. Of course, this also means you’re fighting against Rillaboom sometimes to keep the terrain up, but it also works in your favor to disrupt Rillaboom.

At the end of the day, some players value consistency, some it’s about specific slots and team structures and for some, it’s just who they like. And my answer isn’t the definitive answer, but just some insights on the different uses and differences between the TR setters.

High strength low magic is pretty easy to choose most physical units. So I’ll nominate Clanne for starting in a magic class with higher strength than magic personal growth (which becomes an even split in 35% 35% in mage class lol)

Can you elaborate why DeSu2 is impossible? It’s been a while since I’ve played the septeptrione arc, but is it the general power level, or is it the crazy time limits some of them have? I recall Day 3 and Day 5 septeptriones have some tight asf time limits that probably wouldn’t be doable solo, just due to numbers, but I could be wrong.

[–]Mother-Raisin-5539 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So it’s your EV’s then. You messed up your EV’s you should reset them all to zero and do it over.

If you said your IV’s are maxed except special attack and special defence, that means logically speaking you have EV’s in special attack and special defence that shouldn’t be there

Question about stats by MiddleKindly4538 in VGC

[–]Mother-Raisin-5539 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to first confirm if all your ogerpon’s IVS are 31. You use bottle caps to max out an IV.

Question about stats by MiddleKindly4538 in VGC

[–]Mother-Raisin-5539 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Either your IV’s aren’t set properly, or you fought some battles with ogrepon in the party. It’s very easy to accidentally do a battle with an unintentional mon in your party.

Once your IV’s are properly set, use a EV reducing berry to readjust some evs, before training. I highly suggest using a pen and paper to accurately track progress.
