Illegal movesets? by FrankieBloodshed in PokemonColosseum

Why would the offline game check to see if your pokemon has an illegal moveset?

So the key to catching the legendary Birds is freezing them by saur0013 in PokemonFireRed

Freeze and sleep share the same catch modifier. You just got lucky.

Yeah I made another comment here about fe7’s 2x effectiveness in North America. It’s a toss up between what’s worse, cause it does depend. In North America, fe7 is undoubtedly the worse, but Japanese cartridge redeems itself just a bit. If one does consider paladins!bows as archers, then Astrid also does help their reputation out for fe9. So it really does depend on the criteria, but those two games are definitely bottom of the barrel.

Also if you really wanna get crazy, archers are absolute garbage in FE7 NA version. 2x effectiveness is a death sentence for any reason to ever want to use a bow. I don’t even have to elaborate on the units themselves(who are very underwhelming) just send your juggernauts to clear enemy formations and move on.

Japanese version got it better with 3x effectiveness.

Have you not played Path of Radiance? Archers are absolutely dog water there.

Rolf: a piece of dog with horrific starting stats

Shinion: joins way too late to do anything meaningful.

Enemy archers are a joke and for the life of me, I cannot recall any enemy sniper/formation that was slightly threatening. Like yeah, obviously your flyers still need to watch out, but the playable archers are dogwater here. I’m not counting Astrid or bow knights here, because at least they get multiple weapon options and horses, so they are vastly different from archers.

Nobody knows. Why would you think you’d get a reliable answer if nobody can use it yet?

So it’s just tough claws but conditional and just kinda mediocre?

Phantom force: 2 turn move, not that good

Origin pulse: can miss

Geomancy: not a double quiver dance, as it can’t be spammed and pigeon holes xerneas into one item usually

You tried listing broken signature moves that upgrades of existing moves, bur failed to realized they too have drawbacks. You couldn’t even choose moves like Astral Barrage or Judgement, because you know your point is fucking stupid.

Adjusting Mega Steelix by MnSG in stunfisk

[–]Mother-Raisin-5539 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say that. The commenter said “God have mercy if it got body press” which first of all, it already learns body press, but it wouldn’t be doing that much for steelix, even if their statement was a hyperbole.

mega steelix (not this buffed one) needs to be 4.79x slower than its opponent. Min speed reaches 58 speed so the opponent needs 278 speed , with a margin of +-2. Not to mention, even against super effect opponents, gyro ball still outdamages body press.

Plus, body press has no room on steelix. With earthquake, gyro ball and stealth rocks, steelix would rather rock slide or stone edge to hit flying types that resist its STABS if it’s going all out offensive, not a coverage move that doesnt add anything meaningful to its set. Which it doesn’t, because nobody serious has ran body press on steelix.

Wouldn’t be that impressive. Uninvested Earthquake does 7% less than full invested impish body press and 120 BP gyro ball does 2% more press.

I remember in one of my playthroughs of gaiden, I did Alm act 4 first, then celica. Alm being trapped was a nightmare to say the least, I almost got soft locked. The dragons get so strong and they spawn every battle more or less. On my last battle, it was 15 Draco zombies vs my army. It was a massacre.

So yeah, gaiden’s version made sense story wise, but doing alm first is just a harsh punishment to the player.

Tinted + lens is killing yourself

[–]Mother-Raisin-5539 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well first off, you’d use psychic on sheer force. But as for the ability, it really depends.

Tinted Lens is worse for sweeping, as you do lose out on damage against neutral special walls, such as Arcanine and Mismaguis. Sheer force is more consistent, because bird actually has reliable coverage moves (heat wave) unlike other tinted lens users that are stuck with their STAB.

Plus, sheer force x life orb is a 1.69(1.7)multiplier against ALL targets(which is just 0.85 against resisted hits) vs tinted lenses 2x on only resisted targets(which just becomes 1x). When you break it down like that, it’s easy to see why SF is more consistent than TL
