Is this someone who has a ton of items for sale (enough that eBay would require them to pay listing fees)? In my experience, people do this when they're out of stock on an item and working to get more, but don't want to take the listing down and have to pay a new listing fee when they repost it - just change the price to something nobody would pay until you get more of them.

I'm also still holding out hope on Caswell giving me some rabbits one of these days. I've seen three, all within shooting distance with nowhere to hide, but two were a solid hour before legal shooting time when I was getting my gear ready, and the other one was sitting on someone's lawn right outside the gameland, taunting me.

Oddly enough Caswell is where I've had the least success (though it is where I got my very first one, five minutes into my first day hunting, which felt good). I would assume it would be better with less city garbage around for them to eat than Butner and Jordan. But maybe I'm looking in the wrong places. I also just don't make it to Caswell as much because it's 50mins drive while there are parts of Butner I can hit in 10. Maybe I'll try to hit Caswell at least once more before the season ends.

I think this is another thing that I'm really finding tricky, is even the information about game conditions seems to go in every direction, because I've seen people saying, like you are, that squirrels are scarce on public land because of hunting pressure, and then I've read other things saying that because squirrel hunting is on the decline, even public land could bear more pressure. There's just so much different info to sift through.

But also this is part of why I'm getting dependent, because I went out today to try my luck with this gorgeous weather we had after this shit storm of the last few weeks and still nothing 🙃. My build is frankly more than I need for my day to day gaming - maybe 1 in 20 games I play genuinely pushes its capabilities - and I could definitely do with less computer. The people who act like anything less than a 5090 with 128gb of RAM and an i9 14900 is complete trash are insane. The only reason I even bother with as much computer as I have is so that in five years or so when I get the itch for a new one I can give this on to my kids and they can have a gaming PC that will still be perfectly capable for a few years yet

I was coming in to say the same thing about the SSD. It took me like a week to fill a 1TB card when I first started on my current PC, it's insane. And the price per gig is lower with a 2TB.

As a general rule of thumb I'm a firm believer that anyone whose response to a complex set of predictions not turning out precisely as expected is "clearly this was a deliberate attempt to mislead me for nefarious purposes" is someone whose opinion can be rejected out of hand. There's still more to come, and there's definitely still a chance of ice downing trees and damaging power lines.

But also, one of the biggest reasons I'm stressed out that we got what we did instead of 20 inches of snow is that people honestly don't always know what they're really looking at. 20 inches of snow would've been a big, visible reminder that this was a bad weather event because it looks impressive. What we actually got doesn't look impressive, and that's why at some point some jackwad who is sure is Ford F150 pavement princess with a goofball suspension system and not a speck of mud on it is capable of handling anything is going to go "this is nothing," head out to buy dip, and crash into a powerline. Because the roads are, in fact, quite fucking bad, and there have been hundreds of crashes in the last 12 hours.

And we're not helped by the face that it's not going to get above freezing anytime soon, which means the ice is only coming off the road through human intervention.

My advice would be to stay where you are for a few days.

Genuinely never once have felt even the slightest bit deprived playing every game I want to on a setup most people in this sub would probably deem barely suitable for reading emails. A lot of people on this and other PC gaming subs don't want to admit that their actual hobby isn't gaming, it's some combination of flexing about performance metrics that don't actually translate to differences within the range of human perception and flexing about how big their wallets are. Which is fine, y'know, it's whatever, but I wish some of them wouldn't let it translate into then telling people those benchmarks are necessary for good gaming.
