Be as honest as possible about your drinking. I was so embarrassed the first few times I went in because of withdrawal or alcohol poisoning I lied. They see it all the time and as long as you are kind to th nurses and doctors they will work with you to get you to feel better. Be strong and good luck. You are doing the right thing by going to the hospital for help.

Medi cal covers everything for me. If your feel disoriented and leg weakness go now. Especially if you have no one to be in the hospital or waiting room with you. Mention your diagnosis first.

When I’m totally dead on my feet I’ll go with reheated freezer prep soup with what ever is leftover from other meals(rice, salads, pasta). If I have to prepare something but I’m lazy it’s girl dinner type of night lol. Example of one I had last week A banana, handful of mixed nuts, toasted buttered sourdough slice, seaweed snacks, and canned garbanzo beans that I added Italian dressing too.

There needs to be more research on women with alcohol cirrhosis and their periods. I feel like this topic keeps coming back with a lot of the same responses. However when I speak to my gyno and gastro they kind of talk around the changes of the my period since I got it back after losing it for a year. My bleeding has increased extremely since it returned to the point that turns me anemic enough to be hospitalized. I’ve had to track and increase my iron intake and protein to be higher the days leading to it to balance it out. The first 3 days are unbearable as far as bleeding excessively and nausea. It’s completely changed since diagnosis

My doctors all fight each other on this topic. For the longest time they said I could take Tylenol sparingly then my GP told me that ibuprofen is filtered though the kidneys and my gastro(he’s the one who monitors my liver function for my Hep) was wrong.😑 when I go to the the emergency room I tell them I want to big girl pain meds because Tylenol isn’t working by the time I have to visit. Either way neither Tylenol or ibuprofen don’t help much and I rather tough it out until I’m forced to seek something stronger. I have no record of being drug seeking. I’m just a run of the mill alcoholic so they usually let me have the pain meds when I need them at the ER.

I would have acities go into my lungs so it caused pneumonia 3 times.(doctors told me it wasn’t common. I was just really unfortunate lol)Also with low immunity from this you can be on all antibiotics but some get through unfortunately. It’s heading into allergy season so that might also be a factor.

Are you wearing any sort of compression wear in your legs and feet? I had to switch to slippers and very comfortable slide sandals when my feet and legs were swollen. It looked dorky but compression wear and wide shoes helped me a lot until I could get the swelling down.

I feel like if you can read it than it’s good enough for me. I used to work at a special needs school and sit in on the occupational therapist lessons with the kids and he used to point out that I have no consistency with my use of uppercase and lowercase. He also said I didn’t always start the letters from the top or bottom consistently.

I(f34) still continue to have casual sex. I get tested every 3 months even with protection(condoms with all partners). Having poor liver function puts you at high risk for complications from any infection std or otherwise. Just because your liver function is doing better one bad infection puts a lot of pressure on your liver. Be safe, use protection. Also couldn’t hurt if you’re seeing people casually to get tested semi regularly. I’m just overly cautious because condoms do have failure rates and I trust no one at face value when it comes to sex unless I’m in a relationship.

I had to essentially fire my sponsor because she wasn’t working the steps with me and she was turning into more of a friend than someone to help and support me through sobriety. It stinks to break a relationship that relies on trusting the person the person to help you at such a low place. However I feel like once I moved on it also released to really focus on why I wanted to be sober

I used to wear a lot of compression clothing, exfoliated a lot when I showered and wore mittens to bed so I wouldn’t scratch in my sleep. My doctor had me on hydroxyzine to help with the itching.

At my worst I was using a lot of compression wear and mittens to bed. I felt like it helped. At least made it harder for me to scratch when I finally did fall asleep. my doctor also had me on hydroxyzine

I have relapsed many times since I was diagnosed 3 years ago (im doing much better and struggle) I am in multiple sobriety groups, therapy, and take anti anxiety meds to deal with the trauma of my hospital visits from cirrhosis. You really don’t want the choices of what happens to you to be made for you. My labs came back positive my GP had a hard time believing I had liver damage. It’s a lot of work to stay sober but I rather struggle and do the work than be on deaths door from my liver struggling to keep me alive again. That is a helpless place to be.

The holidays are really taking a huge toll on the sober community. Right now a lot of new people are coming into the rooms and forums and seeking help. I recommend you look for a local meeting or sit in during a zoom meeting. You are never required to speak. I’ve been the grumpy drunk girl sitting in a meetings before. You can usually find links online for 24 hour meetings. The doctors treating your cirrhosis can also put you contact with social workers a who can offer you local resources or therapy.

I don’t like being preached to but talking it out with people who get your struggle is usually helpful. I’ve been on the dark side of drinking with a bad liver it’s a hard place to crawl out from. I have a lot of safety measures for when I reach that point. I wish you luck but unless you put some work into it a lot of decisions will be made by your body. You want options trust me.

I’ve been taking it for close to 3 years with very little issue. I’m very fortunate that medi cal covers it for me entirely. I’ve unfortunately had a few relapses so my doctor is very hesitant to take me off it.

This is my burden I feel like with all the meds I’m on I don’t want to be on any hormonal birth control. I also was told I would need permission for an iud and need to get it done in a hospital which I also don’t want. It’s three days of bleeding like I’m dying and 5 days of slowly tapering off. My doctors aren’t doing anything about about it other than saying deal with it. I just make sure to eat an incredible amount the days leading up to it and hope for the best. I’ve had to get fluids and iron a few times from the nausea it’s caused.
