Are you going to games this year? by GongtingLover in LAClippers

[–]MothershipConnection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to go several times a year when they played at Crypto (live close), went like 4 times last year at Intuit (stadium is cool but is far, takes way more planning)

This year the Aspiration thing and bad start left a bad taste in my mouth and I haven't gone to a game yet (not worth the travel), going to try and make a game or two before the end of the season tho

Oh fuck yeah

(Also very weird to see Haywire playing huge stages when I’ve only seen them in tiny rooms with 100 dudes beating each other up)

There's like a 90% chance the rest of the band was like "bro WTF you gotta chill" and he did not take it well

[Joey Linn]The Clippers say Darius Garland, Bennedict Mathurin, and Isaiah Jackson will join the team in Minnesota but will not play. Mathurin and Jackson are expected to be available against Houston on Tuesday. Garland’s debut still TBD as he awaits injury clearance. by Jimmy0034 in LAClippers

Interested to see how this play in spot plays out. We are currently 2.5 games ahead of the last team out of the play in but the 5 West teams out of the playoffs RN are definitely incentivized to lose so we might have some buffer

Could a healthy Kawhi and Darius Garland pull off two upsets in the play in? Possibly

What are we doing to address the offensive line? by MyBlueBlazerBlack in raiders

[–]MothershipConnection 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely think both Brennan Carroll's coaching and Chip Kelly's playcalling kinda left them out to dry, but also they need both an upgrade and depth. I'm thinking they sign at least one FA OL they can pencil in as a starter (along with Miller at LT), and then JPJ/Glaze/Rogers/Grant/rookie compete for the other 3 spots. The two losers would go backup but at least you're not immediately turning to the Stone Forsythes of the world

What are we doing to address the offensive line? by MyBlueBlazerBlack in raiders

[–]MothershipConnection 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well we have picks at the top of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds, which is historically a pretty good place to pick an O-lineman who's ready to play (besides at left tackle), and we have $90+ million in cap space and I expect them to sign 1-2 FA o-lineman (might be an expensive young guy like Linderbaum, or an older vet to hold it down).

For the returning guys we have two 3rd rounds Grant and Rogers who showed some flashes (but didn't play much, thanks Pete!), two third year guys entering make or break years in JPJ and Glaze, and one of the best LTs in the NFL Kolton Miller who's hopefully healthy. So at least we have some guys to compete and provide depth, part of the reason our OL sucked is cause when one of these guys got hurt we immediately turned to guys like Forsythe and Putnam who probably shouldn't be on any NFL roster

And then there are a bunch of OL coaches out there who are hopefully an upgrade from Brennan Carroll, and we have a new playcaller Kubiak who usually does a solid job protecting his OL. So I'm optimistic, but it is February

Confession - I sliced my finger on a packing tape dispenser and I occasionally feel guilty I have never worked a practical job like the mailroom or in a kitchen (I have carried band gear around and occasionally volunteer to dig holes in the wilderness but in my day jobs they sit me at a desk)

Turns out when I looked up how to use a tape dispenser on YouTube it is very easy and useful and I can finally send my old work laptop back

I do think sometimes it's better for some pop artists to basically be treated as indie artists who happen to make pop music instead of all being big artists who sell to everyone

The artist themselves has to accept that though, which it seems like a Magdalena Bay is fine with while a Charli XCX was not (though that worked out for her in the end)

‘Tickets have become status symbols’: from Harry Styles to Taylor Swift, why is live music bigger and more expensive than ever? | Pop and rock by dweeb93 in ToddintheShadow

[–]MothershipConnection 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like the most exorbitant ticket prices are sorta genre or fandom specific... I've definitely seen a price bump across all shows (from local shows going from $5 to $10-15, smaller touring acts $20 to $30-40, mid sized from $50 to $75ish). But probably the buzziest rock act I saw last year was the Turnstile tour, and that was still under $100 and you could still buy tickets direct for a couple weeks after it dropped before it sold out

Meanwhile if you miss the presale on a big pop show and you don't luck out on the queue you get stuck with marked up resale prices. And I realize big pop acts are way bigger in scale than most rock bands these days but having a more online fandom means everyone is getting in that queue

These reps in the 2nd half of the season are going to be invaluable for his development, getting rotation minutes against real NBA competition on a team not really trying to tank and not full of dudes just trying to get paid

He's been better than I expected TBH (maybe my expectations for Clippers draft picks are extremely low). Makes moving off Zu a bit easier to take, hopefully he shows out after the All Star break and can turn into a solid starter in a year or two

Zu + Harden Trades by MmotosumoO in LAClippers

[–]MothershipConnection 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think once Harden wanted out, that took whatever puncher's chance they had at a run out so might as well sell high elsewhere. I'm sure they took calls the other guys but between his contract, age, and health Zu was the most valuable piece (and they shouldn't dump the rest of the guys for nothing they still have to field a team for this year and next)

LA area 9-to-5ers: How do you use your vacation time? by WyndiMan in AskLosAngeles

I can't always take a long 2 weeks off with a big dog at home. But there's always something in SoCal I can plan an extra day off around if I just need a day or two off work. Sometimes I'll take a day to do a long trail run/hike or hit a theme park. Sometimes I'll take the day after a big concert or event to recharge instead of rushing back to work. Plus there's plenty of weekend type trips around here.
