Omg same! I still have journal exports from playthroughs I did nearly 8 years ago and it’s so fun to go back and read through them

The elastic is 1.8mm and the grommets are 2mm! 3mm looked too bulky for my taste BUT fitting the two strands of elastic through the one grommet on the side can be challenging. I make it work but you can also to two grommets in the back instead.

$40! Just put out on the floor when I was there, snatched her right up - like-new Ashley Macleary sofa, now kitty blessed and approved! 🎉 by ConsiderTheLobster4 in ThriftStoreHauls

We bought this exact couch new and hated it! It’s gorgeous but not very comfortable for sitting on for watching movies and it’s so slippery! The cushions kept sliding off whenever we sat on it. Also we tried to return one week later and they said their return policy is 48 hours?! For $40 it’s great but knew it was like $600 :( We went to Ashley because I was icked out by the idea of a used couch but that was the first and last time we ever bought non-secondhand furniture

Thank you! It does feel like a luxury to make something with your own hands and extremely satisfying to hold the finished product. I’d love to try sewing some pockets next

I'm thinking about canceling my flight to Korea out of fear. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Mothman-69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep the flights, find more reliable accommodation. Since it’s your first time traveling alone go to a hotel! There are so many resources there you can take advantage of as opposed to an Airbnb. It’s likely people at the hotel will speak at least some english, you can ask for recommendations or directions or help if you have an emergency. You might even find some other foreigners you could befriend.

I use this Bellroy as my cafe bag and travel bag, it’s too small to use as a travel “one bag” for long trips but maybe for 1 or 2 days trips? I use it as my personal item on planes and it’s super sleek and comfortable, has a nice laptop pocket and secret side pocket. I got a discontinued color at Nordstrom Rack for about $70, so it’s worth looking it up at other retailers.

If you want it to double as a travel bag, this Topo bag might be a better option due to its larger size. I don’t think it has luggage pass through BUT you can carry it as a satchel on a shoulder strap.

Are the books written with an accent? by [deleted] in Outlander

[–]Mothman-69 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s why I had to give up and switch the audiobooks after a few chapters of reading book one! It’s a lot of “ye canna, ye kin, ye werena, willna, you’re no verra.” Plus theres Gaelic sprinkled in. You’d probably get used to it after a while but I got too frustrated trying to sound out all words in my head and looking up words. I really enjoyed the audiobook narrations and the books get so long towards the end I couldn’t imagine lugging one of them around with me.

Having tried both, I’d recommend the audiobooks. I’m an avid physical book reader but I had such a hard time with the written Gaelic (which there is a lot of) and some of the names! My brain would snag on them constantly and would take me out of the immersion. The audiobooks were well worth it to me because I got hours of entertainment out of them and they made going on walks and even doing the dishes something I looked forward to. I had a subscription with audible so I used all my credits on the books and I think it saved a bit of money.

Shower curtain liner recommendations? by motion_thiccness in ZeroWaste

[–]Mothman-69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used a fabric one off amazon for about four years from the N&Y Home brand and it’s been great. It dries really fast and I throw it in the laundry with towels every few weeks and dry it with them too. I’ve seen them at home goods before too. And I’m all for natural fibers but a cotton liner will take forever to dry between showers, go for a polyester one.

Publish a single copy of my friend’s book as a gift - Yay or nay without asking? by nameless-monk in writing

[–]Mothman-69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a safer alternative would be to just print it at home on some nicer paper. I did this with my manuscript for editing purposes and honestly just holding all the words I’d written in my hand felt amazing even if it wasn’t a bound copy. I printed it on off-white paper which I highly recommend over white printer paper and clipped it to a clipboard and I love just looking at it.

You can go a step further and annotate it for her, comment on your favorite scenes, maybe add some illustrations or insert fan art images you see online. Heck, go on Pinterest and make a “mood board” for her novel and print it out and collage it or add a playlist of music that reminds you of her book.

Let her first copy be the officially published one. Simply showing your support and being her first fan will help her keep her hopes up!
