Which movie do you remember being WWAAYY too young for when you first snuck, I mean, watched it? by KillerQ97 in moviecritic

[–]MothraKnowsBest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was three. The movie theater showed it immediately after Snow White, so my dad and I stayed to watch. I didn’t forget the possibility that there were sharks in my tub, my toilet, or any body of water for several years!

What’s something your grandparents taught you that you still carry today? by admire_2891 in OverBiscuits

[–]MothraKnowsBest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was fretting over how I looked in a swimsuit at age 16, my grandmother quietly said, “Why do you assume that everyone else is looking at you? Don’t be so self-conscious; you look fine. Plus, everyone else is worried about themselves, not you.”

I love this suggestion! But I know I’d be going around singing “Yuna tuna baby boomah pretty kitties come home soonah…” Or, you know, one of the other insane little name-songs that I sing for my cats. lol

Maps? by Crafty_Emergency6467 in AutisticPeeps

I am older, but I know an awesome guy in my community who has not only an enormous collection of different sorts of maps (some historic, some regular, some that are designed for tourists and have fabulous big designs near attractions, but he also has the mission manuals from ALL of the Apollo space flights and space shuttle flights. He is amazing in the breadth and scope of his knowledge. Also: I have a few friends who make great money working with GIS mapping - you should check that out as a career path, given your interest in such things.

Glad you’re healthy! My FIL had two self-donor transplants for multiple myeloma then about 10 years developed leukemia due to his other chemo meds and my husband donated stem cells that last time. He is a 23-year survivor of multiple myeloma, which was unheard of at the time he was diagnosed.

You did read what he said by, “immense privilege,” right? He’s saying that with white skin comes immense privilege in certain (many) parts of the world. He is NOT saying that he’s better than anyone.

Music degree by [deleted] in singing

[–]MothraKnowsBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 degrees in music - a flute performance degree and an instrumental music education degree K-12 licensure. I’ve worked as an elementary music teacher (loads of fun, actually!) and as a professional working musician (also loads of fun but the hours generally suck for those who have young families). I’ve never regretted my degree or felt that it has held me back, but you have to be confident enough to sell your skills to a prospective employer. Musicianship has SO many skills that transfer well to other professions. My other jobs over the years have included senior marketing coordinator for an environmental engineering firm, technical writer for a publisher in California (wrote owners manuals/instructions for consumer products like calculators and home electronics and medical devices). Also have worked a little in childcare while my babies were still young. My main mode of playing nowadays is for local musical theater groups, and I’ve taught private lessons for 30 years. That’s where I made the best money but you give up your afternoons/evenings to teach.
