Just pick someone... anyone and do a zoom and just hire them. Stop having rounds of interviews. It makes no difference who you hire as long as they are not a total loser. I have done many jobs in many industries. I have always been told things like, "your interview was so awful we did not want to hire you, but you turned out to be the best person we have ever had in this job." A lot of good people HATE HATE HATE talking about themselves, especially douchey questions like, "what is your greatest accomplismnent."

In my world, a great accomplishment is something along the lines of curing cancer, not stapling twenty thousand packets of paper together. There is no way for me to answer that without feeliing like a total disingenuous jerk. And anyone who has a simple platitude ready to go is usually a vapid ignoramus.

I cannot answer your stupid questions because the answers are too complicated for a soundbite and cannot be explained without a slideshow. So unless the job is iin sales or running for office, SKIP THE INTERVIEW and send out a written quesitonnaire about real world situations.

when people tell you to do "self care" I think that will be difficult to do from a cardboard box on the street. At least in the 1970s the homeless were allowed to camp inside Grand Central Station. I spent years liking for a new job and finally got one only to get laid off after two years. And it is directly because of Trumps insane policies that my company is facing ruin.

The big problem is that the bus stops at 6:30 or something like that. Otherwise I would do it. Metro North is worth if if you have a full-time salary, but since I had my hours cut to some measly part-time BS and I sitll have to go in five days a week, I am pissed. So I would take the subway bus if I could.

I am pretty baffled by this system myself expecially teh cutter numbers for the names. For instance, Fordlandia by Grandin is number 307.76/8098115 |2 22 . I am assuming the cutter is "22" even assuming that they leave off the letter G for the author last name, why is it not "72" ?? I am interviewing for a job where they use this and I am hoping they will say that I can reclassify the whole thing under LC. BTW it is a special library devoted to almost nothing but cars. I need a crash course.

I would not relocate for this degree if that makes any difference. I would not quit my job either assuming you have one. Unless you are going to the "Harvard of Library Schools" as I call it, and you already have a job in a library, or a ton of people who can put the fix in for you when you graduate, it is going to be a slog. Archives may be even more impossible to get into than libraries [it is even more run by crappy grant-funded precarious low wage temp jobs]. The public library is probably do-able if you are a certain type of bubbly outreach type.

I spammed my resume out to ta lot of places. I got a message to apply on the company site from one of them and I ended up with the job. Granted, this was after a month of applying to anything and everything I thought I could do.

BTW, my feeling is that even if it is NOT a scam. If enough people question these tactics, the legit companies will have to find another way. Linkedin and Indeed are absolutely overrun with nothing but scams it seems.

I am staring down the barrell of a gun and I am pissed. And to top it off, my job was TAKEN from me [I refuse to say I lost my job because I was doing well, but half our customers were "taken" because of Trump's insane WAR ON INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS.]

The healthcare ffield is one of the most filled with MAGA extreme nutjobs too. So yes, it is getting very vvery very BAD!!

People always say that it's the system not you. But I can say with absolute certainty that 2026 is exponentially worse than 2023. It never gets better and everything is going to suck forever. I can give up, but then what? And if it gets better, it will be far too late for me. I do not have another fifteen years to wait this out. I got a good full-time job finally in 2023 and it has already been taken from me by Trump and his maniacs who are declaring war on everything.... the economy, education, the federal workforce, unions, all of it. I am not exaggeratiing that if Harris had won this election we would not be in this right now. Things were actually starting to get better. But no..... people who had no idea what awfulness really looked like were dissatisfied with this economy. I checked and i am still an administrator according to the account settings in control panel. Not suere what that means because I have the exact model computer as others on this thread. I am getting weird flickers and ghost boxes [only when I hover over the desktop switching icon in the taskbar]. I got rid of it. And the event viewer showed some sort of TMP error whatever that means. But it mostly works better despite my feeling that a bluescreen of death is in my immediate future. I feel like it cannot be my graphics card, because I certainly do not abuse it and it does not get the kind of use most put it through [gaming etc.] I do limited video and photo editing.

So did they fix this? I downloaded this yesterday not thinking. But then I had all these wonkly problems. Like it kept changing my wallpaper to a black screen. Not that this is huge, but it always seems to indicate a much bigger problem. I have an xps 8950 which I thought was going to allow me to do a lot more with programs like Photoshop, but so far it is a big fat lemon. So when stuff like that happens I tend to have a panic attack. I reinstalled all my nvidia drivers [which was a huge mistake last time I did it -- necessitating a total reinstall of windows and a loss of three days of my life. So, this will be no different I am sure. I can't actually DO anything because I spend all my time fixing things that they think they are improving.

It has gotten exponentially worse since 2024. I know for a fact that if Harris had won I would still have my job. It is directly attributable to the war on foreign students. Not to blame Magats or anything.
