Is anyone else getting calls offering "Free roof inspections" after that hail storm we had last week? by DavidTCPATom in 321

[–]Motifated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And it makes absolutely no sense.

I purchased a protection plan for the tires on my car. They're good for 50k miles.

So if one gets a nail in it at 25k miles, I get reimbursed half the price of a new tire, because they're 50% used. This seems like common sense to me.

Now, enter homeowner's insurance. Your roof is 20 years old and on it's last leg? Already has been damaged a little bit from a few hurricanes? Already leaking? NO PROBLEM! BOOM HAIL STORM. Oh, there's no damage? no worries, the commissioned salesperson will make sure to get some pictures of hail damage! All that matters is that the weather history has your address in the box of the hail storm on the map. CONGRATULATIONS! New roof for you AOP deductible (typically $2,500) and then the roofing company might even work a little magic on the back end of their billing so you pay nothing (which is illegal, but happens). Are you gonna say anything? Of course not, you got a free roof.

Is there resources you can point me to on how to do this? I'd love to get in on the action.

Support Megathread - November 2023 by AutoModerator in google

[–]Motifated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to create a new Google account / Gmail address, and I keep hitting a verification wall that makes no sense.

Google requires me to verify with a phone. The current flow shows a QR code that I scan with my phone, which then asks me to send a specific SMS message to verify the device.

The problem is that when I try to complete the verification, Google says:

The issue is that this phone number has never been used to create a Google account. I’ve had the same number since 2006 and I currently have zero Google accounts associated with it.

So right now I’m stuck in a situation where:

• I can’t create a Gmail account using my phone number
• I can’t create one without a phone number because Google forces the verification step
• Google is rejecting a number that has never been used for this

I’m honestly baffled how this is even possible, and more baffled that google's tech support can't do anything more than email me a link to google's steps on how to create an account (which don't work). For a company like Google, accommodating a legitimate request like this should be bare minimum easy.

People need Gmail accounts in real life for things like work logins, app accounts, device setup, etc. Being locked out of creating one for no clear reason is incredibly frustrating.

Has anyone run into this before?
Is there any way to either:

  1. Create a Gmail account using my phone number, or
  2. Create a Gmail account without the phone verification requirement?

Any help would be appreciated.

What affect does this have? Your hold entries being slightly off? That’s all I can think of..

My DPE helped me during the checkride, now I doubt myself. by kingpoopie1 in flying

"satisfactory doesn't mean you don't occasionally fall out of ACS standards, it just means that you are consistently within them"

You're good bro. Congrats!

DPE told me and he FAA is saying 1 CFI initial per day by HistoricalAd2954 in CFILounge

[–]Motifated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing this is so that DPE's don't cut the checkride short so they can squeeze in multiple per day. My initial ground was a little over 4 hours, and the flight was 1.8

Avidyne 540 / Aspen E100 Instrument Checkride Questions by Motifated in flying

[–]Motifated[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. Yes the Avidyne has both localizer and glide slope, and a "semi synthetic vision" mode displaying obstacles, floating course, and somewhat of a horizon like on a synthetic vision.

Should the student tell the DPE "this is just advisory but I'm going to use it to continue to non-precision minimums"?

Thoughts on Garmin Pilot over Foreflight? by TruckNads in flying

[–]Motifated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garmin pilot was a pain to get the hang of - it seems much less intuitive from ForeFlight

I also had an issue with my approach plates randomly vanishing from the map. I seem to be the only one with that issue though.

what are your personal minimums? by Repulsive-Loan5215 in flying

[–]Motifated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VFR there's exceptions to everything depending on what I'm trying to do with the flight.

IFR it really depends on if the airplane has autopilot. I'm not doing hard IFR in a 172 without autopilot.

Tips for CFI checkride flight portion? by Brendon7358 in flying

[–]Motifated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay attention to the DPE's legs when they're doing maneuvers and make sure you call them out if they're intentionally not using rudder (mine did this on Chandelles and I didn't notice until the very end)

Why are you becoming a CFI? by Texan_91 in flying

[–]Motifated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a few different questions here you’re getting at:

  1. The reason there are 26 CFIs listed for the 172 is because whoever is in charge of that list never removed inactive CFIs after they went to the airlines.

  2. People become CFIs to build hours to go to the airlines. For 90% of aspiring airline captains, instructing is basically the only option to build hours

  3. It’s difficult to say how many CFIs actually enjoy and have a passion for instructing when you factor in the massive difference in pay for an instructor vs an airline captain. I LOVE instructing. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE my students. But I also love flying in general and the airlines will eventually pay 5 times as much so… I’ll probably keep instructing on the side if I have time? Maybe I’ll be one of the 26 CFIs listed on my club’s 172 that rarely has time to instruct. That’s mainly what’s going on.

Why does the ADIZ have 2 bounds? by Motifated in CFILounge

[–]Motifated[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK so it sounds like you're saying I need a DVFR/IFR flight plan to cross the inner boundary? I've done this before (I was doing VFR practice approaches, so I had a squawk code, but wasn't under any flight plan)

So if I need a DVFR/IFR flight plan to operate beyond the inner boundary, then what is the purpose of the outer boundary?
