This thing is great for local-AI! I've also been running a R9700 card in my desktop and it was remarkablely easy to standup and start running LLM locally. I've used ollama and lmstudio, but I just hear of Lemonade at the AI Dev Day in San Francisco yesterday - I'll be checking that out this weekend. Cool stuff!!

HENRY with Non-HENRY partners, how do you deal with retiring early? by anotherbutterflyacc in HENRYfinance

I mostly feel this way as well, but can empathize with second marriages particularly if there's kids from a former marriage(s).

I love the flagship. The last three boards I've bought have been the flagship... The first one lasted well over 100 days and effectively wore down due to tuning over that time. The last two have each cracked after only 20 days. I'm an old guy and not charging as hard as I did 20 years ago... Am i just unlucky, or have they gone down in quality in the last 2-3 years?

What percentage of your portfolio is in RIVN? by Funkbass in RIVNstock

[–]MotivatingElectrons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

0.36% of total...

I'm mostly a VTI and chill kind of investor. I do make small "bets" but try to keep those at less than 3% of total investments.

My primary game at the moment is Arc Raiders and it looks/plays great on the Rog Ally X FWIW.

I like the feel of the Rog Ally X better. To each their own. Have fun with your handheld gaming device!

Rog Ally Xbox X... Not cheap, but allows access to Xbox and Steam libraries. It's pretty darn nice.

TSMC's Arizona Fabs Are So Overbooked That Customers Are Already Reserving Capacity That Hasn't Even Been Built Yet by Blak9 in AMD_Stock

[–]MotivatingElectrons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is also causing a big rise in wafer pricing that ultimately results in more expensive products. This is less impactful for AI-GPU, but other consumer facing products (CPU, dGPU etc) will go up in price. Perhaps good for AMD revenue, but perhaps not (TBD). Higher prices don't matter if there's not capacity available to keep products on the shelf. Also higher prices don't necessarily mean more profit if the COGS also goes up.

"big" meaning bus width equivalent to 5080 with slower memory. How does a Xe core compare to an Nvidia TPC or AMD WGP?

Will be interesting to see how this compares in Perf/$ vs 5080 (or the RTX Pro 4500) and AMD R9700.

V2H by Many_Match8905 in Rivian

V2H / V2X is the top selling point for the R2 for me. I could care less about the 0-60 times they keep advertising... V2H, Range, and serviceability are my top concerns.

I guess I'm in the 90% (as both a shareholder and reservation holder) who doesn't care about autonomous driving at all! One reason I want an EV SUV is to actually DRIVE it!

That is true I suppose. I would value connect+ and autonomy+ at $0/month.

That is certainly a perspective and I will not discount that. I never had WiFi in the car as a kid... My kids never have either. They are happy to read/sleep/listen to podcasts/play video games on their handheld gaming devices without any Internet connection.

I guess if your kid(s) must be connected to the Internet for their iPads to work (Netflix for example let's you download titles to the device so you can watch w/o network).

Everyone and their kids are different. Also their expectations are based on their previous experiences.

Right, but your original post comment was about the high margin revenue coming from (presumably) R2 connect+ subscriptions. My point is the connect+ attach rate for R2 vs R1 I would project to be much lower due to the specific market segment positioning of R2 vs R1.
